We are an amazing Community!
Let me begin by saying
In these most difficult economic times, it is important to reach out to each other, connect further and more importantly make wise decisions when it comes to our purchasing habits by supporting our local businesses, contractors, suppliers, and providers.
As consumers we need to be strategically mindful of the impact we can create when and how we spend our monies!
There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.
Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much!

This month, we are featuring Chris Lamont, a name that is familiar to the small business community in New South Wales.
As Small Business Commissioner, Lamont has dedicated himself to supporting the state's small businesses since June 2020. With over two decades of experience in policy development, advocacy, and senior government positions, he has a proven track record of delivering major government reforms and programs.
He previously served as General Manager for Capital Projects and Infrastructure with the City of Melbourne, overseeing the delivery of the capital works program. Lamont's journey to becoming Commissioner was not an overnight success, beginning his career in the not-for-profit sector before moving into government positions.
He leads the Office of the Small Business Commission, providing free or low-cost mediation, advocacy, and strategic advice to small businesses across the state.
Under his leadership, the commission has played a crucial role in assisting businesses during the bushfires, floods, and COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining its track record of advocacy and issue resolution.
Lamont's passion for small businesses is evident in his words and actions. He firmly believes that small businesses are the lifeblood of their communities and drive economic growth and job creation.
He advocates for policies that support small businesses, such as reducing red tape, improving access to finance, and creating a level playing field for small businesses to compete with larger ones.
Looking ahead, Lamont is committed to continuing his work of advocating for the interests of small businesses across the state. With his passion, experience, and commitment to making a positive difference, Lamont is an asset to the small business community in NSW.
Eddy Nader has been a long-time friend to CEO, Wally Mehanna and the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce. He actively seeks new relationships, and new opportunities and shares the knowledge openly and honestly that he acquires whilst scouring the globe for inspiration and innovative ideas. Does he love numbers? Yes, he digs deep into the research and how and where data is collected before he relies on it.
Eddy is more than an award-winning businessman, he is a family man, an entrepreneur, and an advocate for his industry and our community.
When he talks to you he's exploring ways to help you. He asks questions to better understand you. He listens because he's always learning. Don't mistake him, he is well-intentioned and motivated...unless he's binging on TV shows based on real life including Power, Ghost or the Good Doctor.
What is Eddy looking for? Eddy says education doesn't matter, training doesn't matter, it's the person, their drive. Eddy looks for driven and highly motivated people receiving 60+ applications to work with him as Operations Manager. He's inclusive and promotes an equal world. Whether he supports women in convenience or partners with the Kids Clinic to hire baristas with special needs, he's not just dishing out charity, he's
putting the right person into the right job.
When you talk to Eddy about his family he lights up. He's proud that they negotiate and contemplate. Three generations of convenience and petroleum. Eddy's son at just 19 designed an award-winning store with his Dad. A proud father says he was already a natural so the rest was drive and motivation.
Talk to him about Free Enterprise and whether alcohol should be available in a service station. An interesting Philosopher!
What an amazing day!

We are proud to showcase this white paper born thanks to the collaboration between two members of our chamber, Western Sydney University and 3BRIDGES.
Addressing Critical Needs: The White Paper fills a research gap by raising awareness and informing practice regarding the Early Years Support Service. It emphasizes the collaboration's rigorous approach, equipping services to better support vulnerable families.
In-Depth Study: The White Paper draws insights from 47 stakeholders, including 22 mothers, 15 volunteers, 6 staff members, and 4 significant others, providing a comprehensive understanding of the service's impact.
Focus on Mothers, Acknowledging Diversity: While the study primarily explores the experiences of mothers, future research should consider all primary carers to ensure inclusivity and support diversity.
Identifying Needs and Recommendations: The White Paper reveals the reported needs of vulnerable new mothers throughout their service journey and offers recommendations for service design and implementation, aiming to maximize impact. The collaborative efforts of Western
Sydney University and 3Bridges have produced a valuable White Paper, underscoring the significance of the Early Years Support Service for vulnerable new mothers. By implementing the recommendations, we can foster a nurturing environment and positively impact the lives of those in need. The CBCC commends these members and encourages the community to embrace these insights as we work towards a more supportive society.
A recent Mayo Clinic study reveals that menopause symptoms have a significant financial impact on US employers, costing them an estimated $1.8 billion in lost work time each year. When factoring in medical expenses, the annual cost rises to a staggering $26.6 billion. These symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances, joint aches, and cognitive difficulties, not only affect the quality of life for millions of women but also negatively impact their performance in the workplace.
Lead author Dr. Stephanie Faubion, the director of Mayo Clinic Women's Health, emphasizes the critical need for employers to address this issue and provide support for women experiencing menopause symptoms. Given that menopause typically occurs around the age of 52 and a significant number of women in this age group are part of the workforce, the impact on productivity, absenteeism, medical expenses, and career advancement opportunities is substantial.
To assess the impact of menopause symptoms on working women, the Mayo Clinic researchers invited over 32,000 women aged 45 to 60, who were receiving primary care at Mayo Clinic, to participate in a survey study.
The findings, published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, reveal a clear association between menopause symptoms and adverse work outcomes, with the severity of symptoms being a strong predictor of work-related difficulties. The study underscores the importance of improving medical treatment for women and creating a supportive workplace environment for those experiencing menopause symptoms.
According to the study, 13% of the women surveyed reported experiencing adverse work outcomes due to menopause symptoms, while approximately 11% reported missing work days because of these symptoms. The study also suggests potential racial and ethnic differences in the impact of symptoms, though further research with larger and more diverse groups is needed to explore this aspect more comprehensively.

Last year, I thought taking on the snake bath challenge was tough, and it was, but well worth it as you helped raise just under $8000. Thank you for your support.
This year, I’m going above and beyond the snakes and facing an even BIGGER fear in hope to raise at least $10,000 to help the Children’s Cancer Institute save young lives and improve their long-term health outcomes, through research.
Did you know that every year in Australia over 1,000 children are diagnosed with cancer. For hundreds of these children, cancer will cut their life short, before they’ve even had a chance to make their mark. In fact, three children die of cancer every week in Australia.
I believe that a life should be long and that every child should get the chance to grow up and grow old. To plan exciting futures, chase their dreams, and fulfill their potential.
I’m diving with sharks and hope you can dive into your pockets for a small donation (tax deductible) that will help support this worthy cause.

As a parent myself, I can’t think of a more worthy cause to get behind.
Let’s help make a difference in the lives of our children. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Every little bit becomes a lot! ❤

Housing supply in NSW has not kept up with increases in demand, resulting in consistent upward pressure on house prices and rents. The NSW Department of Planning and Environment estimates NSW will require approximately 900,000 additional dwellings by 2041.
The Commission finds that the
be achieved with a planning process that increases housing density in areas of highest demand, particularly in areas closest to the Sydney CBD.
Doing this would require changing current regulations on building houses in ways that allow more people to build more homes in the right places.
