Neighborhood Revitalization

SPRING 2018 | Argentine, KS

My studio team conducted research on the Argentine neighborhood before designing a school for J.C. Harmon. Research focused on exploring the relationship between transportation and its influence on socioeconomic status.

This revealed that implementing a network of interconnected bike paths throughout the community, with the school serving as the central hub for development, would greatly benefit the local residents. In order to integrate this concept into the community seamlessly, we created a three-step phased plan, taking into account future development considerations. The accompanying rendering illustrates how the central hub harmoniously interacts with the site's geographical features.

DYNAMIC LEARNING COMMUNITY

J.C. Harmon High School

SPRING 2018 | Argentine, KS

The project aimed to address challenges in the existing learning setup at J.C. Harmon, where students faced difficulties engaging with teachers. We introduced incentive elements and established a positive learning environment, giving rise to the innovative ‘DLC’ (Dynamic Learning Community).

The outcome is a space designed to inspire students to excel academically. The classroom programming was informed by thorough research conducted throughout the semester. The accompanying image showcases the thoughtfully designed second floor of the classroom I created.

The concept of open classrooms was implemented to convert common areas into spacious lecture venues. A seating element was introduced to provide students with a view of second-floor activities and an opportunity to earn the "level up" privilege. Teachers have an allocated space near the seating to offer assistance when required. The design extends into a courtyard for student utilization, and the presence of a movable wall enhances the classroom's connection with nature, creating a seamless integration with the outdoors. FIRST FLOOR PLAN

Upon reaching a "level up," students gain access to the second floor, earned either by completing classwork or attending technology classes in that space. The upper level features two units equipped with screens, allowing two classes to utilize the room simultaneously or engage in friendly competitions between teams. Study spaces and teacher offices are conveniently situated nearby. Additionally, an outdoor garden has been designed to align seamlessly with the learning environment.

Ascending through the atrium, the seating element functions not only as a spacious lecture area but also as a communal space for students to interact with one another throughout the entire area.

Aiming to extend the concept across the entire school, the incentive idea seamlessly integrates beyond learning spaces. The gym and expansive courtyard serve as venues to extend gaming experiences throughout various parts of the school. Technology-driven learning finds its place within classrooms, while physical games are strategically positioned both adjacent to classrooms and outdoors in the courtyards. The image showcases the seamless connection between the courtyard and the adjacent gym, illustrating the integration of spaces in our architectural design.

SEATON + HIGHER EDUCATION

Fall 2019 | Manhattan, KS

The project initiated the redesign of Seaton Hall, focusing on integrating new lecture spaces, labs, and studios dedicated to architecture engineering classrooms. The architectural design aligns seamlessly with the initial remodel, tailored to meet the specific needs of the engineers utilizing these spaces.

The featured image beautifully captures the building illuminated at night, showcasing a union of the two distinct colleges.

INDUSTRIAL MARKET

Capital Development Partners

Cedar Port Logistics Center Baytown, TX

This development encompasses an 800,000 sqft warehouse with rail service integrated with the nearby existing building. My team worked on this project from schematic design through construction administration.

My contribution to this project was creating renderings for the client's groundbreaking ceremony, the detailed construction document set, along with setting up the Revit standards for this client moving forward. While working on this project I learned about the accelerated construction process and the intricate coordination efforts required for this specific project type.

Capital Development Partners

Central Port Logistics Center Savannah, GA

This project was a very large development involving the design of three buildings totaling over a million sqft. My team and myself worked on this project from schematic design through the construction design phase and bidding.

My contribution to this project was creating and developing documentation for schematic design, design development, and permitting with the city. Additionally, I refined the Revit project standards for the client. Throughout this project, I learned about the design opportunities of industrial projects and their integration within the built environment.

The first building in a big development connects well with the surrounding area and is conveniently linked to a major transportation hub.

GROCERY MARKET

Whole foods

Hy-Vee

Kroger

Sprouts

“While working in the Grocery Market, my primary client was Whole Foods, focusing on remodel projects nationwide and new store construction.

In 2020, the Whole Foods pivoted and rapidly incorporated online grocery shopping into their experience. I managed the Whole Foods North region for the new Grocery Pickup program roll-out. This included writing contracts and proposals, designing plans, coordinating with consultants and traveling to various locations for construction administration. Images to the left showcase my whole foods work.

In addition to work with Whole Foods, support was provided for Sprouts build-to-suit projects, collaboration on Kroger remodels, and involvement in local Hy-Vee remodels. My primary focus was creating detailed construction documents, coordinating with consultants, and construction administration. These images showcase my work with Sprouts, Kroger and Hyvee.
