How Long Does It Take to Get Used to a New Mattress? Recently, we have been talking about some of the symptoms of an uncomfortable mattress. Let’s say that you’ve recognised that you need a new mattress and have bought one (hopefully from us). Falling in love with a new mattress is the exception rather than the rule. For most people, a little time is needed to get used to a new sleep system.

Does it Take Long? Most find they need up to a month to get used to a brand-new mattress. This period may be longer if you previously used a ‘bad’ mattress for an extended period. Sleeping on a mattress that doesn’t sink and squeal is a new experience for the body, and it needs to get used to that. Sometimes, the fantastic adaptation benefits the body affords can also be a curse too.

What Should You Expect During the Adjustment Period? Experts are well aware that there’s an adjustment period that comes with mattresses. But no new mattress should be uncomfortable. What you may experience is more tossing and turning than you are used to as the body gets used to the new mattress. This is especially noticeable with a memory foam mattress, which moulds to the body. Think of it as the body’s way of finding the most comfortable position in a new sleeping spot.
