Dr. Jennifer Edwards In LA Times on Ye and Parler

Jennifer T Edwards, executive director of the Texas Social Media Research Institute and the Rural Communication Institute at Tarleton State University, was quoted in an October 18, 2022 Los Angeles Times article discussing the social media platform Parler. “Parler is a niche social media platform on which conservatives feel the most comfortable. Users flock to sites that make them feel like they belong,” she said Ye (formerly Kanye West) is one of the most visible Parler users, and in her mind, the recent conservative controversies that he has been involved in may be a boost to the platform. “Through West’s efforts, Parler has the potential to become more mainstream,” Edwards said. “People who have never heard of the social media platform will flock to it, merely out of curiosity ” Dr Edwards teaches graduate courses in Social Media Strategy, Social Media Campaigns, and Applied Social Media.
