A NOTE FROM COLE: LEARN FROM THIS PHOTOGRAPHER...DON’T BE AN IDIOT! OK friends this is hot off the press and I have to share with you all because I am appalled. This is exactly what you SHOULDN’T do. A very good friend of ours just had a baby after years of trying (yay for another IVF baby like us!) and actually asked us if she should do newborn photos. We said yes, you definitely should - so she went for it. She booked the photographer and the baby comes along so they go for the newborn session. Our friend brought a crochet outfit that she had purchased for the photo shoot and wanted one photo of her baby in this outfit, so she told the photographer… The photographer said, “I think crochet is tacky so I don’t want to take any photos with it”. You might be thinking, how do you know what happened if you weren’t there? Well, because she just texted us and asked us if WE could take the photo for her since the person she hired refused. I am absolutely appalled that the hired photographer would turn down a photo request that the client requested. This is absolutely an idiot move because instead of just taking one simple photo to appease the client, the client instead is telling everyone about this
negative experience and even if they didn’t tell anyone do you really want to have clients who leave your session thinking about how terrible that was? Here’s the thing...from time to time you will get requests for photos that are NOT reflective of YOUR style (i.e. a cheesy idea from Pinterest) but that doesn’t mean you can’t take the photo. Take the photo for the client, give them the photo and you simply don’t show it anywhere on your website or social media, case closed. I hope this is a lesson for all to put the client experience with you as your top priority and know how to handle photo requests that you would prefer not to do. Cole
