Cruise-In Happy Hour

Get Acquainted Coffee

Cruise-In Happy Hour is held on the third Friday of every month on the front lawn of the Recreation Center.

Meet your neighbors and help welcome new residents to the community, during Get Acquainted Coffee. Information will be available on fitness, the community bus, pickleball, and more. Join us as we take you on a short walking tour of the facilities available at the Recreation Center at the conclusion.

On The Third Friday of each month, we will now be offering a Cruise-In Happy Hour at the Recreation Center parking lot and front lawn. This will be in addition to all our other Happy Hours.

We will have a live band, beverage service, hot dogs, hamburgers, or brats for sale during the event. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy live music outdoors, along with some spectacular automobiles being showcased. Please note that this will be weather permitting, and BYOB will not be allowed at this site.

If inclement weather, event will be moved inside and car show canceled.

Challenge your neighbors and friends for a fun afternoon of mindboggling, brain-taxing questions. We will have groups of eight per team. Select a team name and prepare to have a fun time. Each team’s score will be calculated, and the team with the most points wins. There will be first, second, and third place winners. A cash bar will be provided, and you are welcome to bring snacks for your table. Everyone playing must register before the dates above as a headcount will be needed for all teams. No beverages of any kind will be permitted.

Ballroom Dance Lessons

Weekly Line Dance Classes For fun and fellowship, join one of our dance classes! It is medically proven that the best activity combining physical and mental effort at the same time is ... Dancing!

Darlene Miller is our new line dance instructor. She has been teaching line dancing in The Villages for 19 years and taught at the Villages Lifestyle Program through the Villages Recreation Department for 17 years. She was an instructor at the Life Long Learning College for two years and has taught many workshops, senior programs and was an instructor on cruises. Her philosophy is: It doesn’t matter at what level you dance, just as long as you dance and have fun!

ABSOLUTE BEGINNER (12:00 - 1:00 pm) This class starts in September as an Introduction to Line Dance and progresses into Absolute Beginner. Basic Line dance steps and simple step patterns are used in dances at this level.

IMPROVER PLUS (1:15 - 2:15 pm) Dance experience is required for this class. More intricate step combinations and rhythms are used in dances at this level. Current popular dances are included at this level. Improver is slightly easier than intermediate.

BEGINNER LEVEL TWO (2:30 - 3:30 pm) Dancers will build on their basic line dance knowledge through easier dances with different rhythms. New step combinations and dance patterns will be taught as needed. Some prior dance experience is required.

BEGINNER LEVEL ONE (3:45 - 4:45 pm) A complete season in Absolute Beginner is required with familiarity of basic line dance steps. Dancers have acquired some experience.

Easy dances with some different step patterns are introduced at this level. Classes are limited.

Instructor Butch Phillips has teaching certificates in American Style Bronze, Silver, and Gold as well as Bronze in International Ballroom and International Latin and is a Nationally Certified Country and Western Judge. We encourage anyone interested in partnership dancing to participate. Participants will be evaluated to determine the class levels needed.

Classes for 2021 are as follows: • July Rumba • August Foxtrot • September Cha-Cha • October Waltz • November Swing • December Two Step The classes will include step descriptions for leader and follower, including correct characteristics of dance and practice to music.

Singles are welcome as willing students will rotate partners. Register at the Recreation Center office as pre-payment is required for classes.

Broadway Dance Classes Do you love musicals? A chorus line and Grease are just a few of the fun and exhilarating musical routines you will learn. All choreography will be inspired and styled after those foot-stomping favorites. This is a seven-week session for two months. No experience is needed!

Register at the Recreation Office. Any comfortable shoes can be worn, no sandals, please.

New Beginner Tap Classes Beginner Tap* Have you ever wanted to try tapping classes? Now you can! You will be dancing to music of all genres and performing a routine in the first week. Holiday Golf Cart Parade and Holiday Celebration We are gearing up for yet another successful and festive “Holiday Golf Cart Parade and Holiday Celebration.” All clubs and residents with golf carts, unique cars, bikes, and more are welcome to join us. We will be awarding prizes for the most creative, funniest, most festive, most originial, and best show.

A trophy will be given to the club that is voted “Best in Show” 2021.

This trophy will be engraved with the club’s name, and year to year be displayed at Resident Services after the celebration. We are happy to announce last years Best in Show was awarded to the On Top of the World Lions Club.

The parade will showcase decorative golf carts, classic and antique cars, R/C cars, horse and buggy carrying our 2019 OTOW King and Queen, local Sheriff, and Police department staff, along with Santa himself.

The parade will start at the Recreation Center Parking lot at 2 pm circulating through parts of the community and ending at Circle Square Commons Town Square. The judging of the golf cart will be done at the Town Square between 4 and 4:30 pm. After the parade, please join us at The Town Square for the Holiday Celebration.

Insider’s VIP Horse Farm Tours Ocala,Florida Tour Ocala’s horse country, get insider’s view of all that included in Marion County. The tour includes close interaction with the horses and the people that handle them. During the drive between stops, learn about the history, fun facts about Ocala’s horses, and point of interest. There is 20 to 30-minute walking at each farm. Please wear closed-toed shoes for this trip. After the farm, we will stop at the World Equestrian Center for lunch on your own. You will have 21/2 hours to explore freely.

The fear of falling is a significant concern for many older adults. We understand this concern and realize that the consequences of a fall can be devastating. We offer free balance assessments every Thursday at the Fitness Center. Six simple tests only take a few minutes and are administered by our certified personal trainer. This assessment will highlight risk factors and guide you with the appropriate exercise plan to help prevent falls.

Join our certified personal trainers for a comprehensive introduction to the Recreation Fitness Center and The Arbor Fitness Center. This free group orientation is designed to acquaint you with all of the cardiovascular and strength training machines and provide you with a foundation for safe and effective exercise.

Roll & Restore Thursday, September 16, 2021 10:00 am Ballroom at Recreation Fitness Center FREE This foam rolling class will help soothe tight, sore muscles and promote mobility. Foam rolling also assists with the speed of muscle recovery. The process of foam rolling is a myofascial (myo=muscle, fascial=fascia) release. Join us for the opportunity to learn how to use a foam roller and incorporate this technique into your regular fitness routine. Please bring a mat for floor exercises and a foam roller if you have one. We will have a limited number of foam rollers available for purchase.
