ABSTRACT
The Vietnamese culture in San Francisco has been spread all over the states and it never has its center so people who are from the culture and want to know about the culture don’t have a center to go to. And by proposing a community center here in Van Ness gives me a chance to make a connection between the Vietnamese people with the Vietnamese communities, and introduce the Vietnamese culture to multiple communities in San Francisco.
So by grabbing and putting together some of the Vietnamese culture in San Jose, Westminster and Vietnam, and then blend those characteristic with the characteristic of San Fransisco, I’m able to create somethings that is really Vietnamese but also San Francisc and only the Vietnamese culture in San Francisco have.
“The colLAB, located in the heart of Oakland’s vibrant art and mural scene, aims to create a unique and inspiring living and working environment for artists, students, and seniors. By bringing together this diverse group of individuals in a shared space, we hope to foster a sense of community and collaboration, while supporting the creation and display of local art.
By providing artists, students, and seniors with the resources and support they need to thrive, our project will foster a dynamic and vibrant ecosystem of creativity and learning. In addition to supporting the local art scene, our building will provide affordable and comfortable housing options, and contribute to the revitalization of the Oakland neighborhood. Through our architecture, we hope to create a unique and enriching living experience for all those who call our building home.”

Through my site analysis, I discovered that the site has two primary wind pathways that run through the woods. The two wind paths originate in opposite directions but intersect at the same spot before splitting again. I attempted to replicate similar moments from the winds by layering the frames throughout the structure, where individuals enter the building from two distinct entrances, meet at one point, and divide again.
