Introduction

The Technology and Learning Innovation, Learning Support and the English as an Additional Language Department are here to serve the community members of Colegio Roosevelt, by offering a number of professional learning opportunities.

Our staff works closely with teachers and support staff to plan and deliver a wide range of exciting and innovative growth opportunities. This catalogue provides a listing of sessions, micro courses and events, that support personal and professional growth. Information on professional learning networks and other related activities is also provided.

Technology and Learning Innovation

Our purpose is to build our professional learning community ensuring the support and enhancement of teaching and learning at FDR and the incubation and development of innovative tools & practices which contribute to the school's mission.

The Technology and Learning Innovation Team supports Colegio Roosevelt's Mission and the 2018 Strategic Plan, specifically Strategic Objective #2 and #4, and Learning Principles.

FDR Mission: Our mission is to empower our students to pursue their passion for learning, lead lives of integrity and create socially responsible solutions.

Strategy #2: We will develop educators with the capacity and willingness to adapt, innovate and collaborate to ensure our students embody our mission and core values.

Alignment to 21st Century Educators Skills Our professional learning sessions are aligned to the ISTE Standards for Educators 2017.

You will find the ISTE logo stamp next to the workshops, where applicable.

English as an Additional Language

FDR's EAL Program has adopted Stanford's Six Key Principles for ELL Instruction as the overarching framework for EAL best practices. The purpose of the EAL team is to advocate for multilinguals at FDR: • • •

Ensure that all students, regardless of their home language or level of language proficiency, have equal access to curriculum.

Explicitly support English language development through intentional practices.

Model school wide leadership in promoting an asset-based philosophy which celebrates multilingualism.

Strategy #1: We will develop and implement a Roosevelt curriculum that empowers our diverse group of students to excel in academic, social, emotional and physical learning within the context of our mission and core values.

Learning Support

The Learning Support Program’s mission is to empower all students to develop self-efficacy, independence and to reach their full potential while nurturing their strengths through an inclusive culture that honors and celebrates neurodiversity. Always with the aim of providing suitable educational services required for the benefit of the student, the Learning Support Program provides support for students with certain learning needs in grades K through 12th.

Strategy #1: We will develop and implement a Roosevelt curriculum that empowers our diverse group of students to excel in academic, social, emotional and physical learning within the context of our mission and core values.

THE GREAT FDR FLIPGRID Typing Challenge Want to know an embarrassing secret? I can't type. I still hunt-n-peck like I did when I was in 6th grade. Touch-typing is one of those things that eludes many teachers and the consequences of which are detrimental to our health and happiness. That all changes now! Calling all staff who still 'hunt and peck'; the 2018 FDR Flipgrid typing challenge is now ON! Participate in this 5-part online workshop to learn about a self-paced typing challenge that will save you hours over the course of a school year and help fix poor posture.
