We dedicate this book to our friends because they helped us telling their skills, emotions and personalities. We dedicate this book to our families because they motivate us to continue writing and they helped us to feel inspired. We dedicate this book to our teachers because they helped us make the book by giving us vocabulary and other parts of the text. It is very hard not to give spoilers about who is your “secret friend” and at the same time, it is very fun, because we have to investigate our friend without them knowing that we got them. We had to do some big corrections and we had to use our notebooks to look for vocabulary; we did many versions before this last one, so… I hope you enjoy the book!

Presentation Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Building and understanding of what others are feeling, how their own actions can impact on others is a valuable life skill for anyone to possess. The young writer project has proven to be an amazing way to draw out chances to develop this skill as well as many other qualities from our students who had the opportunity to observe, listen, understand and express their feelings to their classmates. To start our work, students watched videos, saw pictures, asked questions to their friends and read some texts in order to observe people and name feelings we can have in different situations. After these activities working on care about each other, describing characters and people they know, each student received a classmate’s name of whom they would be responsible for watching and observing with an empathetic look. All their observations turned into a brief description of each child in year 4. We had some word lists, discussion, communicative activities and exercises so they could better understand the structures of a description text and develop their own. The result of their hard work is this great description book, the culmination of their dedication poured over ideas and observations that they refined. Some mistakes on structures and expressions were kept to preserve student’s writing and to show their learning stage. Enjoy the moment of reading these descriptions and remember they were written by Year 4 Students.
