Describing yourself requires a lot of self observation; these images are transformed into words and appropriate language with specific vocabulary and structures are used to translate a clear understanding of who you are. The young writer project has proven to be an amazing way to develop writing skills as well as other important skills, such as: observation, listening, understanding and expressing feelings to others.
To start our work, students watched videos, saw pictures, asked questions to their friends and read some texts in order to learn how to talk about themselves. We produced some word lists, we had a lot of communicative activities and exercises so they understand the structures of a descriptive text and develop their own. The result of their hard work is this great descriptive book, the culmination of their dedication poured over ideas and observations that they refined. Some mistakes on structures and expressions were kept to preserve student’s writing and to show their learning stage. Enjoy the moment when reading these texts and remember they were written by Year 4 Students.
