PRONGHORN CROSSING A New Vision for Affordable Housing

What if affordable housing for Cheyenne’s Habitat for Humanity build team looked like something besides a single-family standalone home? For years, Habitat’s mission has been to create living opportunities for underprivileged families—and this has manifested as one or two houses a year, or every few years as fundraising allowed. While the mission has remained the same, their newest and largest project, located on a 1-acre parcel near the intersection of Ridge and Storey Boulevard, will create an opportunity for 12 families at once. If you drive by this area today, you’ll likely see the beginning stages of a retention wall already underway, which will serve as the boundary for the new area called Pronghorn Crossing.

Construction of six townhomes, each featuring 3 beds, 2 baths and roughly 1,125 SF split between two floors, will begin in Summer 2026.

The new development has been approved for cottage lot zoning under the Unified Development Code (UDC). This special zoning allows for a greater number of homes on a smaller footprint, making the most of available land while still providing quality housing for families in need. For those familiar with the Miller Lane properties off Yellowstone Road, Pronghorn Crossing follows a similar concept.

The project perfectly reflects Habitat’s commitment to adapting to Cheyenne’s housing demands while maintaining their goal of providing safe and affordable homes in Laramie County.

Much of Habitat for Humanity’s work is made possible through sales from the ReStore, located at 715 East 15th Street. This home improvement and donation center, easily recognizable by its bright blue and green mural visible from Lincolnway, helps fund Habitat’s efforts through the sale of donated furniture, appliances, building materials, and household goods.
