SHAKESPEARE in the park

The Bard meets Blur in this exciting new production

Get set for our annual celebration of the great outdoors, great food and drink, and great theatre when Shakespeare in the Park returns to Castle Park!

This year’s highly anticipated production from Castle Park Theatre is Shakespeare’s classic comedy of manners and mistaken identities, Twelfth Night.

It’s the play which carries the immortal lines: “If music be the food of love, play on” and, in this fun-filled production, music plays a key role as the talented cast go a little bit ‘mad for it’ to tell the story of ‘those girls who want boys who like boys to be girls’, complete with a cracking 90s Britpop soundtrack.

“What country, friends, is this?” Well, the play is set in the picturesque surroundings of the Lower Bowls Green in Lower Castle Park from 10 to 21 June with gates opening an hour before the performances start at 7.30pm.

Bring a picnic or make the most of the bar serving drinks and light snacks. Remember to bring along outdoor chairs, a warm coat and blankets too in case of chilly nights.

Tickets remain at last year’s prices with adults £16 and concessions, which include those over 65 and under 18s, priced at £14, available from the website www. castleparktheatre.co.uk

Castle Park Theatre will also host a number of new shows from 21 July to 3 August, including a wonderful rendition of ‘Alice and her Adventures in Wonderland’ from Chameleon’s Web Theatre Company. Enjoy a night of new writing in ‘Plays from the Park Bench’ and two new retellings, the first of the Dracula story and the second inspired by ‘The Railway Children’.

SARA’Sback in town

Get set to welcome comedian, Sara Pascoe back to Charter Hall this autumn with a brand-new show about parenthood, sleep deprivation, and feeling more like a puddle on the floor than a human being.

I Am A Strange Gloop will be Sara’s biggest ever tour of the UK & Ireland.

Speaking about the massive tour, Sara (whose children don’t sleep and her kitchen won’t clean itself and her husband “doesn’t want to be in it”), said: “I have grown to depend on touring, not only because of my deep love of performing stand up, but also to avoid the difficult bedtimes of my unruly children”.

Sara asks: “Have you ever been awake in the middle of the night and thought something so smart and astute that you couldn’t wait for the world to wake up so you could tell them?

“THIS SHOW IS THAT THOUGHT.

“In that it doesn’t make much sense and is a bit weird on reflection.”

If you missed Sara’s sell-out show back in 2023, now’s your chance to enjoy a night of laugh out loud comedy from one of the funniest and most likeable voices in stand-up.
