THE PERFECT
COLLEGE TOWN

Our recognition for abundant internships wouldn’t be possible without Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s second-largest city with 267,000 people in the metro area, including 4,000+ alumni. In fact, it’s the perfect college town!
There’s live music, local cofee shops, entertainment centers and farm-to-table cafes within walking distance of campus. There are semi-professional baseball and hockey teams, plus major retailers and boutique shopping. The Alliant Energy PowerHouse — a 9,000seat arena — is just blocks away, and the Paramount Theatre and McGrath Amphitheater are just beyond.
But college isn’t just gourmet cofee and concerts. The employment, internship, research and networking opportunities are expansive and attainable. Cedar Rapids has major corporations, two Top 25 teaching hospitals, nonprofts and small local startups.
A city campus like Coe’s is an underrated advantage.

SINCE EVERYONE LIVES HERE,
EVERYTHING HAPPENS HERE.

LIVE LIKE A KOHAWK
Coe’s traditions are beloved and long-lived. They are symbolic, fun and celebratory. They bring our community together and provide the backdrop for unforgettable memories.
LATE NIGHT
BREAKFAST
Staf and faculty dish out a delicious breakfast to the whole student body the night before fnals week begins. The hashbrowns and bacon are Kohawk favorites.
“It’s so nice to relax right before fnals. Your professors serve you, and it’s just fun — at that time I’m ready to cram in bacon rather than cram in more studying!”
CASSIE JOLIET, ILLINOIS

FLUNK DAY
Once a year, toward the end of second term, Kohawks awake to the most exciting news: Classes are canceled! On Flunk Day, students get a break from classes, and everyone gathers in the quad for an all-school picnic, games, entertainment and fun. For 110 years, this has been a one-of-a-kind day that every Kohawk cherishes.
“The best morning you can possibly have at Coe is the morning you get woken up by someone yelling ‘It’s Flunk Day.’ It’s instant energy and the whole day is a blast with friends, even spending time with professors informally.”
GABRIELLE EDGERTON, MINNESOTA

RINGING OF THE VICTORY BELL
Coe students ring the Victory Bell on their frst day of orientation and once again before they walk across the stage at graduation. The chime resonates over the crowd gathered to cheer and carries deep symbolic meaning representing past achievements, signifcant growth and a promising future.
“As you stay at Coe through the years, you learn the signifcance and the importance of what it is to be a Kohawk. By the time I'm a senior, it will mean a lot to me to have the pleasure of ringing the Victory Bell on the way out. You come in as a lone bird and you leave with a family of Kohawks forever.”
JOSH MUNSTER, INDIANA

HOMECOMING
This celebration spans an entire weekend and generations of Kohawks. A parade, pep rally, music, football game and dance highlight a weekend that features the best of Coe — spirit, camaraderie and excitement.
“It’s a pretty spirited week! You can feel a diference on campus leading up to the game, which is super cool to go to and be with your friends and connect with alumni. It’s just a really fun week.”
