Thank you for taking the time to read our annual report.
It is my sincere pleasure to continue to serve as a resource for our staff, physicians, patients, community, and the entire CRH family. I personally appreciate the confidence you have placed in Cody Regional Health and our many providers as you make one of the most important personal decisions you will make, in choosing where to seek your health care.
It is our privilege to be trusted in providing you care. We recognize the importance you are placing in CRH, and our team feels a strong sense of commitment and loyalty to all those who place their trust in us. We recognize that it can be stressful coming to a hospital to receive care or visit a loved one. Our team knows this and does everything we can to exceed our patients and customers’ expectations. Your feedback allows us to continually improve and be the best regional hospital you can trust and will recommend to others. You can count on CRH to provide excellent care and services when you or your loved one needs medical support.
Our success is driven by the 600+ associates and 60+ providers who provide and blend the amazing compassion with state-ofthe-art technology to make a difference in the lives of our patients. Our facilities are spread out throughout the Big Horn Basin Region, in addition to state-of-the-
art technical equipment, and other system resources to support our teams and providers in caring for our patients. We have worked hard to provide modern facilities and a healing environment that puts our patients at ease during stressful times when seeking assistance to overcome individual obstacles.
It’s our mission to “provide extraordinary healthcare to those we serve by people who care.” I cannot underestimate that level of care exemplified by all our staff each day, 24/7 at CRH. The heart and soul of CRH is the staff who recognize that our success is driven by the care and support they provide regardless of what department they work in or if they are direct care givers or not. The entire CRH Team is honored to be able to make a positive difference in our patients’ lives every day. CRH has exceeded our patients’ expectations when they tell us the housekeeper kept their room clean, the food was delicious, the nurses, therapists, cardiopulmonary staff, lab, imaging techs, providers, and other clinical staff took great care of them, etc. CRH has over 200+ different positions throughout our organization and we recognize the importance of every team member working together to ensure our patients’ needs are met.
We are excited about some of the key initiatives we have achieved this last year and excited about key initiatives we will be working on in 2023. Some of the key initiatives we

MyChart
We have been preparing for a system-wide launch of a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system called Epic since August of 2020 and recently launched this new system in October 2022. The simultaneous go-live encompassed all of CRH’s medical clinics around the Big Horn Basin Region, which exchanges secure patient records across a single sharing platform. The Epic system was made possible through a partnership with St. Vincent Healthcare, now part of Intermountain Healthcare.
While it is a very complex process, the benefits of Epic improves the health of our patients and provides greater support to our clinical teams. Epic allows patients to easily navigate and view their own records. This is one more way CRH is striving to make our patients’ experience with us a positive one.
CRH patients are able to use a new digital tool called CRH MyChart, allowing them to easily locate personal health information on demand. They are also able to communicate more easily with their doctor, complete healthcare questionnaires before their visit, request appointments, and be more involved in managing their overall health.
We want to thank our patients, residents and clients in advance who take advantage of CRH services for their patience as we continue through this transition. In order to ensure our patient records are as up to date as possible, we continue to ask our community members to bring in patient identification and insurance cards.
Epic now replaces Meditech, our previous medical record and patient billing software.
If you have any questions about your CRH MyChart contact us at him@codyregionalhealth.org or call 307.578.2270

What is your favorite hobby outside of work? I love riding my horse in the beautiful mountains surrounding us.
What about the future are you excited about for CRH? I really think our new Electronic Medical Records software, EPIC is going to bring about a much better experience to our patients, employees and physician partners. EPIC will help us better serve our community for many years to come.
LAURA CARPENTER
What is your favorite hobby outside of work? I enjoy naps, camping, photography and painting.
What challenges have you overcome within your departments over the past year? The biggest challenges have involved staffing issues and significant fatigue regarding the ever changing CDC and CMS guidance in how we mitigate potential Covid infections and transmission in the healthcare setting. Staff at every level and in every department have been worn out and overall morale has been impacted. As the pandemic continues to wind down some of those issues are improving, but I think we are facing a long road ahead of us.

2022 CRH Surveys
This year, Cody Regional Health was surveyed throughout multiple areas including our Emergency Department, Long Term Care Facility, Cedar Mountain Center, etc. We are proud to say each survey conducted at CRH this year passed with flying colors, and we are proud to report on each of these in this year’s Annual Report.
Trauma Site Survey According to the Wyoming Department Health, trauma is the leading cause of death for those between the ages of 1 and 44. Data shows that when injured patients receive care at a trauma center, the risk of morbidity and mortality are reduced compared to non-trauma centers. Trauma centers work diligently to ensure the right treatment is provided at the right time to trauma patients.
At Cody Regional Health, our Trauma Program promotes prevention, education and upholds ethical and quality care. In June of 2022, Cody Regional Health was surveyed by the State of Wyoming to determine the overall quality of our Trauma Program. The purpose of a Trauma Survey is to ensure trauma care delivery is organized throughout the entire spectrum of care including injury prevention, pre-hospital care, intra-facility care, tertiary care and rehabilitation. During our survey, the State of Wyoming evaluated our policies, procedures, performance improvement plans and conducted chart reviews. We are proud to announce Cody Regional Health had zero deficiencies! Our next Trauma Survey will be conducted in 2025. Below you will see some of the common injuries Cody Regional Health has treated in 2021 along with a few of the training opportunities provided our team.
Cody Regional Health Trauma Statistics: In 2021, the Emergency Department saw 1,683
injury related visits. Of those, 323 were pediatric. Majority of the injuries were related to blunt trauma. Blunt trauma includes falls, motor vehicle and motorcycle accidents and sport related injuries. In 2021, we treated 108 falls, 25 animal related injuries, 23 motor vehicle accidents, 12 motorcycle accidents, 4 ATV accidents, 2 gun related injuries, 1 ski injury and 3 bicycle accidents.
Trauma Education/ Outreach/Education: The Trauma Program held numerous Stop the Bleed classes throughout our community in 2021. Since we began the Stop the Bleed campaign in 2017 over 800 kits have been dispersed. CRH also held an Advanced Trauma Life Support course

(ATLS) to our providers. ATLS is a course that focuses on the maintenance and progression of trauma skills. In 2021 EMS and the ED coordinated a mass casualty incident drill in conjunction with the airport, Cody Police Department and Cody Fire Department. The mass casualty incident training was centered around a mock plane crash and Code White Drill. The preceding training listed is a small fraction of all the education provided at CRH. The CRH Trauma Program strives to be
prepared for any situation and is determined to ensure our patients receive the best care.
Mammography ACR Survey
Our mammography department is surveyed by the FDA on an annual basis. In the last four years we have received no Level 1 findings. A Level 1 finding indicates a failure to meet key MQSA requirements that may compromise the quality of mammography performed at a given facility. This means that our
This year we welcomed Danielle Mong, RN as our new Clinical Supervisor & Trauma Coordinator. Danielle comes with over 22 years of nursing experience and 17 years of emergency department experience. When someone has an accident and they are transported to the hospital, Danielle ensures every piece of our trauma process is handled correctly. She helps us discuss what we did well, what we can do better and makes sure our trauma patients are cared for properly.

mammography department meets the highest quality standards, our equipment is performing to the highest standards and our team is well educated and perform to the highest quality standards. Patients and providers can trust CRH for their mammography needs.
NRC Survey The U.S. NRC regulates our Nuclear Medicine program at CRH every year. The U.S. NRC was created as an independent agency by Congress in 1974 to ensure the safe use of radioactive materials. The NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, such as in nuclear medicine. This is done through licensing, inspections and enforcement of its requirements. This inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector. The NRC reviews all our isotope records, our daily quality measures, equipment
quality, medication quality, staff licensures, annual physicist reports, radiation safety measures taken by the facility, etc. We had no violations. This means that the CRH Nuc Med department meets all NRC guidelines and is offering the highest quality patient care and highest quality imaging. This also means our providers and patients can trust in our staff and equipment to ensure consistently high patient care.
Hospice Survey In May a State Licensure Survey was conducted at our Spirit Mountain Hospice. Patient quality, safety and regulatory compliance with CMS (Medicare) conditions of participation were all assessed. No deficiencies were cited. The Spirit Mountain Hospice team provides care to patients both in our beautiful inpatient facility and in patients’ homes covering a 50 mile radius of Cody, from Meeteetse, North and South Fork, Cody, Powell, and Burlington. The team includes our Medical Director, nurses, social
workers, aides, a chaplain, and volunteers to provide the best hospice care in our region!
OSHA Survey In September
CRH underwent an intensive 3 day survey by Wyoming OSHA. This review was requested by CRH as part of our application for discounts to our premiums with Workers Compensation. The surveyor visited all CRH campus sites reviewing for potential safety concerns. There were less than 10 minor areas that were found to need corrections and those corrections have been completed. The final report awarded CRH with a 10 percent premium reduction which is a large savings. Also, included in the final report was a recommendation for additional recognition for our level safety program. This would not be possible without the great employees of CRH who are using safe work practices.
LTCC State Survey Federal law requires that every nursing home that receives Medicaid and/or Medicare funding is surveyed every 10 to 15 months to verify the facility is in compliance with well over 200 state and federal regulatory tags. The survey evaluates the quality of care and services provided as well as the cleanliness and safety of the facility’s building, equipment, staffing, policies and procedures. It is a snapshot of the facility’s performance at the point in time when the survey is conducted. Surveyors spent
12 2022–2023 REPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY
4 days reviewing records, policies, assessments and plans, observing resident care, interviewing residents, staff and family members and conducting inspections of facility fire and safety protocols.
Our facility received 2 deficiencies in the health survey portion and zero deficiencies in the Life Safety Code portion. The average number of deficiencies cited during surveys in the U.S. is 8.4 and in Wyoming it is 5.8. What does this mean for patient care and the organization?
It recognizes the work that all LTCC staff and other supporting departments at CRH have done during the pandemic to ensure overall quality of services to our residents. Despite increased regulatory oversight, intense COVID-19 requirements, added survey oversight nationwide and significant staffing challenges, this survey marks the progress being made in ensuring ongoing compliance. While there is still much work to be done to ensure care is meeting and continues to meet best practices, we are grateful for a moment we can see positive outcomes like this.
2022 Financial Performance Annual audits are performed by outside parties to ensure there are no weaknesses in internal controls surrounding accounting and revenue cycle practices. Audits also ensure financial statements are prepared accurately and represent the organization
fairly. CRH Auditing Firm, Clifton, Larson, Allen (CLA), completed an annual audit at CRH. CLA complimented the CRH finance team for the outstanding preparation and support provided to CLA during the audit. They discussed significant transactions during 2022, reviewed audit adjustments, and identified there were no material weaknesses found in the audit which confirms the excellent job the financial team is doing to ensure we have excellent controls in place.
CAH Recertification Survey Every 3–4 years the Wyoming Department of Health surveys Cody Regional Health to ensure that we are in compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Conditions of Participation. These Conditions of Participation are written to help ensure that patients are receiving high quality and safe patient care. Cody Regional Health had a very successful survey with only two minor findings that had minimal impact to patient care. One of these findings has already been corrected and the other finding is expected to be corrected by December 1, 2022. This successful survey means that Cody Regional Health is able to continue operating to provide the city of Cody and the greater Big Horn Basin with high quality and safe care.
CARF Survey Every three years we are surveyed by the Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF accredits mental health and substance use programs internationally, and when you are “CARF” accredited this means you meet a type of “Gold Standard.” Cody Regional Health’s Cedar Mountain Center and Behavioral Health is not required to be CARF accredited, but this allows us to offer free inpatient treatment services to our clients through the state of Wyoming. We are so proud of our team for their hard work and dedication to our patients.

This past year we welcomed a new provider to our orthopedic team, Dr. Greg Behm, MD!
For over 20 years, Dr. Behm has been keeping his commitment to practice in rural America and has been working as a solo practitioner in some of the most remote locations in the West. He is excited to now be working with our group of surgeons to serve the Big Horn Basin Region of Wyoming.
Dr. Behm graduated first in his class from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and went on to residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. The Campbell Clinic is one of the world’s top residencies and the staff there write “Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics”—the most read orthopedic textbook in the world—now in its 14th edition. He is one of 12 members of the Campbell Clinic Alumni Executive Board and was honored to be the president of the Campbell Club from 2015 to 2018.
Dr. Behm is board certified in both General Orthopedics and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He
has also been serving as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery for over 10 years.
It was always Dr. Behm’s goal to bring “big city” techniques to small-town America. Ironically, when he was in small locations, he had patients from many of the bigger cities coming to him.
Prior to going to medical school, Dr. Behm graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and then worked as a chemical engineer with DuPont in a variety of locations and assignments. He and his wife Beth have three children who are grown and out of the house. They have three grandchildren.
Dr. Behm is an avid skier and for over 10 years was the ad hoc medical advisor for Lost Trail Ski Patrol. He is now an Alumni Member of the National Ski Patrol.

One of the major ways we work to improve overall health in our communities is by hosting multiple online and in-person events and classes.
We would like to give a big thank you to our team members for sharing their knowledge in order to benefit the communities we serve in Northwest Wyoming. We continue to be cautious of hosting our events in person due to COVID-19. You can register and find a list of our events at CodyRegionalHealth.org, YouTube and Facebook.
We want to hear from you! What kind of events are you looking for in 2023?
Cody Regional Health
would like to make sure we are meeting your needs and answering your questions. Please email us at crh@ codyregionalhealth.org to submit your event topic requests!
We look forward to a full year of events in 2023. Please review some of the events and classes Cody Regional Health hosted in 2022!
We had $3,078 donated for next year’s 2023 Thanksgiving Day Dinner! These funds will cover our next year’s dinner costs, which will feed 500 people!

Caring Beyond Our Walls
“Last Wishes” Grant Thanks to your continued support this year Cody Regional Health Foundation established a “Last Wishes” grant. This grant allows CRH staff to give critically and terminally ill patients the opportunity to enjoy something that brings them comfort and happiness. This practice has also been proven to help staff when dealing with patients even when the medical care feels futile.
Driving Simulator The Foundation also supported the purchase of a new driving simulator. This simulator is used to evaluate if a patient has the necessary skills to drive safely and if needed, develop compensatory strategies to ensure maximum safety.
Volunteers graciously give the gift of their time to help our patients. Many of them work in a variety of areas throughout the hospital, such as pet therapy, long term care, cookie bakers, cancer center, concierge, delivering flowers and even in our gift shop.
Without volunteers we would not be able to keep our gift shop running. All proceeds from the gift shop go back to support the Cody Regional Health Foundation mission to assure the highest quality of personcentered care and enhance the quality of health in our community. Shopping at our gift shop truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
Lifesaving Equipment Our Foundation granted funds to purchase sit to stand lifts for facility wide use. These lifts can help reduce the risk of patient falls and also improve staff and patient safety.
Virtual Reality Experiences
Your kindness has supported a unique way to bring enjoyment and comfort to those in long term care, hospice care, or those who sit through lengthy cancer treatments.
Thank you to our amazing donors for the impact you’ve had and continue to have. Your financial gifts make a difference in our Northwest Wyoming communities.
Interested in volunteering you can apply online at www. codyregionalhealthfoundation. org or reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator at 307.578.2337

Loretta Stapleton, former Cody Regional Health Emergency Room Director, and her family have left an amazing gift for generations to come. After Loretta’s passing in 2022, an endowed scholarship was created in her memory at Northwest College to support Cody Regional Health staff wanting to pursue a career in nursing or emergency services paramedicine.
The Stapleton family donated funds and these were matched by the Cody Regional Health Foundation in order to establish the scholarship. Funds will be utilized in preference for current Cody Regional Health employees wishing to further their education in nursing or emergency services paramedicine, however, the scholarship can be utilized for other applicants wishing to enter into these careers. Thank you Stapleton Family!
