MEGA MUSIC RATIONALE
Primary goals and objectives of the website 1. Promote the purchase of indie music 2. Easy access to information throughout website. 3. Promote new artists emerging in the music industry. 4. To encourage to purchasing music online. 5. To display indie music in a new way, never before seen. 6. To expand to a wider target audience in attempt to promote more purchases.
Target Audience Mega Music would be suitable music store for anyone between the ages of 17 to 35, including both genders. The customers of the site would range from any person who is a fan of indie music to new indie musicians. The geographical location of potential customers would mainly be from North America. The economic situation for each customer also ranges greatly from customer to customer, but each person would have a disposable income.
Site Concept The website concept is based the trend called “Flat Design�. Using this trend the website will have a clean relaxed look through the color scheme and layout.
Site Metaphor When a potential customer enters the Mega Music website, they will first see the relaxed clean look of the flat design. There eyes will be drawn to the various artist photos laid out across the home page, The feel of this will be like the customer is discovering something new and interesting to explore more of the website. When traveling through the website the customer will be seeing all the information is easily accessible and can be found very easy at a click of a button. With each page of the website the customer will also become gain a bigger interest to possibly purchase music from the website. The colors used in the website are very neutral making the graphics and picture stand out to catch the eye. This creating interest for the items displayed.

Competitor Research PureTracks
http://www.puretracks.com/ Offers 3.5 million tracks of popular and indie music to customers. The menu bar on their homepage features different genres which allows for customers to go straight to searching their chosen genre for tracks. The site is straight forward and the home page is well laid out.
Emusic
http://www.emusic.com/browse/album/all/ Emusic offers a wide variety of music genres. It uses a clean layout, that is easy to understand. The functionality of the site works well, although it can become difficult to find some information at times through the button layouts on some pages.
Itunes
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/genre/music/id34 Itunes website is easy to use and has a clean and simple look. Itunes has a large selection of music but artists have often reached a certain level of popularity before their work is sold on iTunes. The content on their pages is primarily photos of albums and singles covers. If looking for a specific image this is helpful but if browsing the amount of images is busy and possibly overwhelming. The search feature works well and is essential to navigate the site.
Beatport
http://www.beatport.com/ Beatport primarily supplies tracks to listeners who enjoy indie, electronica, house, dance, drum and base and other similar genres. Their website is easy to navigate and search. The first page allows the viewer to begin searching for tracks on the home page which has featured artists. The music library is large as they are marketing to the general public as well as DJ’s and offers premium digital file formats.
Amazon Music
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/ browse/-/5174 Amazon Music offers a variety of new and old music to purchase. The layout of the site is somewhat difficult to navigate through if its your first time experiencing the site. The functionality of the site works well but there are some glitches in the database when purchasing music.
Site Summery The goal of this assignment was to create a website to sell and promote music for legal downloads. To fulfil these requirements we decided to design a site which specializes in independent artists and new artists who are just starting out. Our site features a limited number of artists for a certain amount of time and then retires these artists to the “past artists” page. This keeps the selection of music fresh and maintains our websites goal to showcase new music. Our target audience are people looking for new additions to their music library and want to support emerging artists. We decided we wanted the pages to be easy to navigate and simple, since it’s all about the artists and music. We choose to use flat colour with no gradients to keep the look of the site clean and simple. The simple layout allows viewers to easily navigate the site, and access the artists right from the first page where it is easy to access the purchase option for the legal downloads. The “Nominate an Artist” page encourages viewers to interect with the site and will provide information to Mega Music about what their market wants to see on the website. The turnover of new music will also encourage viewers to check back regularly which will increase traffic to the site, giving the artists lots of exposure and making the site a success.
