COLLEGE STATION PARKS AND RECREATION

AUGUST-DECEMBER • 2025

Pickleball Courts at Anderson Park

Welcome!

Hey there, College Station Community!

At the Parks and Recreation Department, we love this time of year. As the seasons change, so does the City’s parks system, bringing new opportunities, updated spaces and fresh programs for everyone to enjoy. With support from other City departments, we’ve recently completed some exciting improvements, with even more projects on the way. Here are a few highlights:

• Anderson Park now features the City’s first dedicated pickleball and multipurpose courts. The park includes four pickleball courts and two multipurpose courts designed for activities such as bike polo and futsal, along with LED lighting and expanded parking.

• Tennis courts at Bee Creek and Stephen C. Beachy Central Park were upgraded with new concrete slabs, surfacing, nets, bench seating, LED lighting and perimeter fencing.

• Two synthetic turf fields at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex received new turf, improving both playability and durability.

• A new playscape designed for children ages 2 to 5 was installed at the Fun for All Playground at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park. A big thank-you to the Fun for All Committee, whose dedicated fundraising efforts made the enhancement possible.

• The Stephen C. Beachy Park operations shop is nearing completion. It will include secure storage, workshops, restrooms and office space.

• Brian Bachmann Community Park will soon feature new Little League and Senior League structures that include expanded restrooms, seating and concessions.

Thank you for being part of what makes College Station’s parks and facilities truly special!

BIRD MIGRATION WINDOW PAINTING CONTEST

In support of Lights Out and Bird City Texas conservation efforts, the City of College Station is launching the Bird Migration Window Painting Art Show Contest. We invite businesses, schools, and residents to participate from Oct. 1-Nov 30. The fun, creative initiative is part of the City’s Bird City Texas certification and is designed to raise awareness and protect migrating birds by reducing window collisions, one of the leading causes of bird deaths during migration season.

Participants are challenged to decorate their windows with Texas Fall Bird Migration-themed designs, using solid patterns with gaps no larger than two inches to help prevent birds from flying into the glass.

habitats they create, the health and wellness benefits of community trees, protecting and preserving our trees, and more.

Food vendors will be available, but alcohol and glass containers aren’t allowed. Post Oak Mall offers convenient parking, and handicap parking is available on Colgate Street. Shuttles won’t be available, and dogs aren’t allowed.

All Ages • Free • Fri. • Oct. 24

• 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wolf Pen Creek Festival Site

By participating, you can contribute to bird conservation while showcasing your artistic talents.

To enter, submit a photo of your painted windows to parks@cstx.gov by Nov. 30. The city will select the top designs and feature them on its social media platforms, where the community will vote for their favorite through reactions and shares. Winners will be announced on Dec. 8.

The window designs help raise awareness of bird-safe practices, and participants are encouraged to keep their window art up through Thanksgiving to protect migrating birds as they continue their journey through the fall. With over one billion birds lost each year due to window collisions, the initiative serves as a small but meaningful way to make a difference.

Bird City

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park! College Station's beautiful Christmas in the Park displays started in 1984 when a local family donated a couple of light panels. The displays have grown to more than one million lights and have become a holiday mainstay.

Our crews work year-round preparing the light panels to ensure they brightly shine when we flip the switch on Thanksgiving Day. The hundreds of illuminated panels — a bulb for every inch — are taped precisely to preserve the panels' mesmerizing effects.

We offer two ways to enjoy the timehonored tradition of holiday lights at Beachy Central Park:

LIGHTS ON

NOV. 27-JAN. 1, 6-11 P.M.

Guests can continue the family tradition of viewing more than one million lights illuminating the beautiful 47-acre Stephen C. Beachy Central Park.

Don't forget to bring your wish list for Santa. Our staff has arrangements with his elves to accept letters for Santa in our North Pole mailbox outside the Central Park Office. To ensure safe delivery, letters can be dropped off from Nov. 27-Dec. 24.
