What will I study? The 180-credit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma extends and deepens the specialist work-related focus from the BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma and the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct employment in the vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they clearly wish to enter a particular specialist area of work. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Level. The course comprises 3 mandatory unit: Communication and Employability skills for IT The aim of this unit is to ensure that learners understand both the personal attributes valued by employers and the principles of communicating effectively whist developing effective communication skills and addressing their own personal development needs Computer systems The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the components of computer systems and develop the skills needed to recommend appropriate systems for business purposes and set up and maintain computer systems Information Systems The aim of this unit is to ensure learners understand how organisations use information and the surrounding use of information, know about information systems and develop the skills necessary to produce management information. It also includes 15 Optional units include some of these are: E-Commerce, Database Design, Computer Networks, Digital Graphics, Computer Animation, Website Production, Computer Game Design, 2D animation production…

Assesment Process Internal and external assessment of all coursework.

What can I do after this course? On successful completion of a BTEC level 3 qualification, a learner can progress to or within employment and/or continue to study IT in a vocational area.

Further details Contact time – In addition to contact time you will need to spend an additional five hours on independent study. Contact time - This will be 15 hours a week with a teacher of guided study. Additional hours of independent study is also required. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Level. Students may be required to complete a work placement as part of this course. Students are required to engage their own work placement. These may require a CRB check.
