BTEC Provision Welcome At Cockshut Hill Sixth Form we are committed to every individual fulfilling their potential and our provision for students is an important part of this. We offer a range of BTEC extended diploma courses that give a pathway of study to suit the needs of learners. BTECs are work-related qualifications suitable for a wide range of students. They provide a practical, real-world approach to learning without sacrificing any of the essential subject theory. BTECS are built to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to university. Good teaching and learning ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve to their full potential and make progress during their time in the sixth form and gain access to university and higher education. BTEC Extended Diplomas are advanced level qualifications consisting of 18 units studied over two years. They are equivalent to three A Levels. Cockshut Hill Sixth Form is more than academic achievement. It is about developing the whole person. The work in the classroom is backed up and extended by a wide programme of enrichment opportunities, internships and work experience placements. Students are aided in their learning and the transition into KS5 study with well supported pastoral provision. If you choose to study at Cockshut Hill you can expect to join a Sixth Form where relationships are seen as critical to success, you will be part of an environment that caters for your abilities, you be guided to an appropriate path of study to meet your needs and be able to progress to university or employment at the end of your course.

What will I study?

Assesment Process

BTEC Extended Diploma. These are advanced level qualifications consisting of 18 units studied over two years. They are equivalent to three A Levels and they are assessed by 100% coursework.

Assessment is ongoing throughout. Each assignment will hit number units (18 in total must be completed over the 2 year course). Formative assessment feedback is given at the end of every assignment on the relevant units. Summative assessment is upon completion of the course.

This vocationally relevant qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course is structured to introduce students to the wide field of art and design subjects, options and potential career routes. You will experience a range of disciplines in the first year before choosing a specialist pathway for year 2.

Where applicable there is an appeals procedure. If students are dissatisfied with the assessor’s decision, they can appeal to the internal verifier. If still discontented they can appeal to the subject leader or to the centre BTEC coordinator.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design is 180-credit and 1080 - guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of five mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combination total of 180 credits. A positive attitude to independent study is essential.

What will I study? This is a vocational subject and is based purely on coursework; The 180-credit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma extends and deepens the specialist workrelated focus. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct employment in the vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they clearly wish to enter a particular specialist area of work. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels. Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a higher education foundation degree, HND or other professional development programme. The course comprises 4 mandatory units and a number of optional units which can be chosen from a number of different pathways such as: Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Management and Law. Lessons will be taught through a variety of techniques including; presentations, role play and independent research. Trips include visits to various local and national businesses as well as visiting speakers from the world of business coming into College. Skills learnt on this course include; analytical skills, evaluative skills, research skills, teamwork skills and independent thinking skills.

Assesment Process Assessment process – A combination of internal and external assessment.

What can I do after this course? On successful completion of this course you can go onto university to study Business or Management or related course, you could join an apprenticeship or enter the jobs market in a related sector.

What will I study? A variety of units will be completed which consider topics like: communication in health and social care settings, equality and diversity, both sociological and psychological approaches to health and a work experienced based unit which helps evidence work related professional development.

Assesment Process The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care consists of eight mandatory units (providing 480 guided learning hours or 80 credits) plus optional units that provide for a further 600 guided learning hours (100 credits) to produce a combined total of 1080 guided learning hours (GLH) or 180 credits for the completed qualification.

What can I do after this course? This course will provide a good foundation for a wide range of career opportunities and academic pathways. For example; future career options may include job roles like physiotherapist , nurse, dietician, school nurse, midwife, social worker, care worker or youth worker to name only a few!

Further details This level 3 qualification is designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. These qualifications accredit the achievement for courses and programmes of study for full-time or part-time learners in schools, colleges and other training provider organisations. The qualifications provide career development opportunities for those already in work, and progression opportunities to higher education, degree and professional development programmes within the same or related areas of study, within universities and other institutions. What will I study? The 180-credit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma extends and deepens the specialist work-related focus from the BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma and the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. The course comprises 3 mandatory unit: Communication and Employability skills for IT The aim of this unit is to ensure that learners understand both the personal attributes valued by employers and the principles of communicating effectively whist developing effective communication skills and addressing their own personal development needs Computer systems The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the components of computer systems and develop the skills needed to recommend appropriate systems for business purposes and set up and maintain computer systems Information Systems The aim of this unit is to ensure learners understand how organisations use information and the surrounding use of information, know about information systems and develop the skills necessary to produce management information. Assesment Process Internal and external assessment of all coursework.

What can I do after this course? On successful completion of a BTEC level 3 qualification, a learner can progress to or within employment and/or continue to study IT in a vocational area.

It is aimed at inspiring students about science. It is based around assignments and practical work and is assessed by a series of tasks, which are all based around scientific scenarios. • Students are assessed on six core units • They must then complete 13 further units

This Course is 100% coursework and will be assessed by a variety of tasks throughout each unit completed independently by the student.

What can I do after this course? This course provides an excellent insight in to the sports industry. Due to the varied nature of units, this course will allow you to directly enter the sports industry or go on to study a more focused element at university.
