When Woodstock Market moved to its current location, a 59,000 square foot space located at 5500 Bells Ferry Rd., the owners changed their business model from a consignment business to a dealer driven and lifestyle store. They saw a shift in what people were buying and developed their business around a mix of antiques, vintage, repurposed and new home furnishings. Forty showrooms line the perimeter of the store highlighting some of their best dealers; 164 additional spaces are
rented to dealers; a Café to keep customers happy and a 5000 sf lifestyle store at the center.
The owners focused their business around their customers and putting them first. Bright lights, wide isles to make shopping comfortable, a café for customers to enjoy lunch and a classroom for teaching the latest techniques in repurposing are all part of what has made the store a success. Since opening in 2012 Woodstock Market has thrived and won annual Best of Cherokee awards each year; has been featured in The Atlanta Journal, local newspapers, VMSD, a national retail publication and featured on Channel 5 for their Christmas Window designs.
The store has managed to keep all of its spaces rented with a waiting list of others wanting to join the family. The owners contribute their success to putting their customers first and caring about their community. Giving back is what a business is for they believe. Every year the store raises money to give back to local charities, non-profits and individuals through its “Big Give” program. The store gives 10% of its revenue away annually to help those in need.

Meet local musician
By Sara Hagen
Mitchell Phillips was named Best Local Musician and Best Performing Artist in the 2025 Best of the Cherokee contest.
Local musician Mitchell Phillips was dancing to Johnny Cash before he was a year old.
“I’ve always been infatuated with music,” he said. Phillips got his first guitar at age 4.
His passion ignited, and his parents bought him an electric guitar only a few years later.
Fast forward to this year, Phillips, who grew up in Canton, has won in the category of Best Local Musician and Best Performing Artist in the 2025 Best of Cherokee contest.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “I was really surprised because there were a lot of people nominated, a lot of the people that I know. It’s surprising, exciting, invigorating, all of the above.”
Phillips began his music career after graduating high school in 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I started out singing and songwriting for three years, and then I found the studio side and fell in love with it,” he said.
He’s been a full-time musician for over two years.
He writes and produces his music at his in-home studio in Cartersville. Some of his early inspirations include Tracy Chapman, John Mayer, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Today, he listens to just about everything.
“When I got into mixing and the studio side of making music, it opened the spectrum of music I listen to because I mix and work on all sorts of genres,” he said.
The more involved he’s been in the production process, the more he realized his passion for helping artists find their voice and offering creative feedback.
Throughout his career so far, Phillips’ wife, Rachel, and his family and friends have been loyal supporters. Rachel inspires much of Phillips’ songwriting, he said. He describes his lyricism as deeply personal and universally relatable.
Mixing music is one of Phillips’ favorite parts of the production process. It’s all about taking the separately recorded parts of a song and bringing them together to sound professional and creatively realized.
“You and Me” and “Wheels Up” are his favorite songs to perform on stage.
Outside of his own music, Phillips loves covering “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman at his performances.
In 2023, Phillips started working with Coy Bowles, a guitarist and member of the Zac Brown Band. Through his mentorship, Phillips performed with Coy at the Rialto Center in Atlanta in January.
“He’s been a huge help and inspiration and mentor for me. We have a great relationship,” Phillips said. “He’s helped shape me into

where I am now.”
He also performed several shows at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, a renowned Atlanta venue which has hosted such artists as John Mayer, The Civil Wars, Sheryl Crow, and Shawn Mullins, to name a few.
Phillips’ goal this year is to continue reaching out and working with other musicians and artists. He wants to help new artists succeed and bring their creativity and music into the world.
For musicians just starting out, he says, “Don’t hesitate. Go out, meet as many people as you can, and don’t let fear hold you back. There are 8 billion people out there in the world and endless opportunities to take advantage of.”

Editor’s Note:
Mitch Phillips is not related to Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery Owners Lori and Mitch Phillips.
Mitchell Phillips has been playing guitar since he was a child. But his music career started in 2020.

Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery
Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery in Holly Springs is a dream come true for founders and owners Lori and Mitch Phillips.
The couple’s mission is to make sure customers feel loved and appreciated from the minute they walk in the door, and that great food on the menu and attentive service are the key ingredients to a pleasant dining experience.
Serving up delicious homemade biscuits from Lori’s mother’s heritage recipe, aromatic coffee, and delectable in-house baked treats and desserts, it is no surprise that the bright and welcoming dining spot on Holly Springs Parkway has a satisfied clientele of local residents.
Add to that customers who already knew about the amazing biscuits from the couple’s Kennesaw location, and it is easy to see why the Phillips’ talents and efforts garnered top honors in the Best
of Cherokee 2025 contest.
The eatery, which is open each day from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., received the most votes for Best Bakery, Best Breakfast, Best Dessert, Best Local Coffee Shop, Best New Restaurant, Best Overall Local Restaurant and Best Sandwich Shop in this year’s Cherokee Tribune and LedgerNews annual contest.
“I grew up on Honeysuckle Court in Smyrna baking biscuits, cakes and cookies with my mother and grandmother. A few years ago, Mitch and I had the idea of starting our own bakery featuring my mom’s homemade biscuits and that would be a gathering place for the community,” Lori Phillips explained.
The Phillipses opened their first Honeysuckle Biscuits in 2018 in Kennesaw and added the second location in Holly Springs in 2024.
Since their Cherokee County location opened in November, lots

of residents who live nearby have started coming in on a regular basis, including soccer teams and their families who use nearby Badger Creek Park, young mothers, and businesspeople looking for a friendly meeting place with good Wi-Fi connectivity, Mitch Phillips said.
“And we have a lot of people who stop in for our freshly made bakery desserts, doughnuts and other treats,” Mitch said. “We have a unique environment where you can get a fantastic homemade biscuit as well as come back all day to satisfy your sweet tooth with our vast selection of cakes, pies, cookies, and more.”
For young moms Megan Barnes and Grace Woodward, Honeysuckles Biscuits and Bakery offers the perfect place to meet up for a morning out with their younger children.
“We like it because it is a good place to catch up, with plenty of space so that we can relax and enjoy some conversation and great coffee,” Barnes said.
Woodward often walks to Honeysuckle Biscuits from her nearby home and says the coffee is a major plus for the local diner.
“This is easy to walk to, offers great food, wonderful baristas, and really good coffee,” Woodward said.
The owners bring high quality coffee to the dining spot by partnering with a local Atlanta roaster, utilizing the best espresso machines and equipment, and hiring experienced baristas that live and breathe “the coffee life.”
Ball Ground residents Justin Hickey and his daughter, Remedy, first-time visitors to the biscuit spot, stopped by for breakfast to give the place a try after an appointment in Holly Springs.
“We wanted to try this place out, and it is amazing, fantastic, even better than we imagined,” Hickey said. “My breakfast platter is delicious.”
Remedy sang the praises of the biscuits. “I have eaten a lot of biscuits, and these are definitely the best I have ever had,” she said.
Breakfast platters and biscuits are served daily until noon, and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Business owner Chase Mizzell and Chiropractor Dr. Cam Gregory met up for lunch at the restaurant. Mizzell often eats at the Kennesaw location and stops in at the Holly Springs one whenever he is in Cherokee County.
“I found out that Honeysuckle Biscuits in Kennesaw was a good breakfast place and me and my family started going there regularly,” Mizzell said. “I really enjoy the food.”
Gregory, who was a first-time visitor to the restaurant, agreed, saying that he enjoyed both the food and coffee.
For the owners, the couple hoped to create something, “larger than us, that will last beyond us,” Lori said. “We want to share God’s love and hopefully leave people feeling better and happier than before.”
The couple have been married for eight years and previously owned four Smallcakes Cupcakes stores. They are also both CPAs and worked in that profession before following their dream.
“We want to be a warm inviting place in the heart of our community where everyone is welcome, loved, comfortable and desires to return,” Lori said. “While we are constantly growing and evolving, we will always do our best to exceed your expectations and make you smile.”
Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery is located at 5943 Holly Springs Parkway, Suite 202. You can find them on the web at honeysucklebiscuits.com.
