New $99 deals gives yearround fairground access HOT OFF DEL MAR — Just in time for the 2010 San Diego County Fair, the Don Diego Fund introduces the Circle of Friends $99 Amigo Club. For a $99 donation, Amigo Club members receive free admission to year-round Del Mar Fairgrounds events, beginning with one free admission to each day of the 2010 fair, running June 11 through July 5. Membership also includes one stretch run pass to each racing day of the 2010 Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Race Meet, taking place July 21 through Sept. 8. Don Diego Fund Executive Director Chana Mannen encourages people to sign up online at www. dondiegofund.org.
“We want to make sure you don’t miss a day of fair fun,” she said. “In addition to free admission to the fair and race meet, the $99 donation entitles members to four single-day Surfside Race Place passes plus one single admission to the Scream Zone, Holiday of Lights and Pelly’s Miniature Golf.” The nonprofit Don Diego Fund provides annual college scholarships to outstanding San Diego County high school seniors who have participated in the San Diego County Fair or other Del Mar Fairgrounds events. To date, the fund has distributed $536,000 in scholarships and grants, helping 126 students attain a college degree.
Host families needed for exchange students COAST CITIES — Education First Educational Homestay Programs is looking for families to host an exchange student from Hong Kong or Germany this summer. Every summer, groups of students from all over the world travel to different locations in Southern California for two to four weeks to improve their language skills, experience the culture and to have fun. will bring 35 students from Germany to San Marcos from July 8 through Aug. 3. A second group of 35 students will be coming to Encinitas July 22 through Aug. 10. I don’t know about a similar law being passed here in California, but I do feel that Arizona has a unique situation. I have a somewhat open mind on the law because many of the citizens feel unsafe.
I don’t think a similar law should be passed in California. They had the idea to even have armed men posted in towers which I thought was completely unnecessary. It’s unfortunate that our government feels they have to act that way in order to stop immigration. There is a solution and we have to help them find it.
What do you think of the Arizona immigration law? Is a similar law needed in California?

I really don’t think we should have that in California. I’m Mexican myself. A lot of people think we’re just coming here to get whatever American citizens have, but it’s actually really hard. They never think to put themselves in Mexican shoes and think why they’re coming here. A lot of people are in danger over there.
