Coast Guard members risk everything, every day.

They protect, defend and save lives.

They serve our country, and we serve them.

We are the Coast Guard Foundation and we support our United States Coast Guard. In small and large ways, we show our Coast Guard members that we value their service to our country. We provide scholarships and grants to help make college dreams a reality. We provide equipment and gear to promote fitness and health. And when the unthinkable happens, we’re there to provide comfort and relief to family and friends of the fallen.

The 2013 Annual Report is dedicated to the late Lisa Cook Reed, colleague, friend, tireless advocate for the men and women of the United States Coast Guard, who devoted herself to raising funds in support of the Coast Guard community.

O

ur service to the men and women of the Coast Guard starts with you, our dedicated partners, who believe in what we do, and support those who serve our country every single day. I can’t begin to tell you how heartwarming it is to speak with Coast Guard members who have benefited from our programs. From scholarship programs for Coast Guard kids, grants for enlisted members, morale and fitness gear, to critical support for families when they need it most, the Coast Guard Foundation is here to act as a lifeline to those who stand the watch. Each year, we provide more than 1,200 scholarships and grants to enlisted members so they can complete their college education while continuing to serve our country. We also provide assistance to Coast Guard members on extended missions, sending them calling cards so those who are on long deployments can stay in touch with their loved ones. When the worst happens, and a Coast Guard member dies in the line of duty, we provide comfort and assistance to the family and friends who are grieving their loved ones. We honor their service to our country with college scholarships for their children, and by celebrating their service at our Coast Guard remembrance events across the globe. The Coast Guard is a family — and with your help — we are able to provide critical support to the families of the fallen. In 2013, we suffered the loss of one of our own, with the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Lisa Cook Reed. Lisa worked at the Foundation for five years, and her spirit of generosity continues on through a special fund chartered in her memory that provides scholarships for Coast Guard spouses, a cause that was very near and dear to her heart. Thank you for supporting the Coast Guard Foundation and for making a real difference in the lives of Coast Guard members and their families.
