Gay in the cage this game, had 13 regular blocks and two five-meter penalty blocks.

February 15 - The Carpinteria High School girls water polo team traveled to play Mark Keppel of Alhambra in a CIF-SS Quarter Final match, dropping a close decision, 9-8. Top scorers for the game include Briana Rodriguez with three goals from the center position and Alex Rodriguez and Sadie Mead with two goals each from the perimeter. The Warriors for the second season in a row made a deep run in the playoffs. “The 2019-2020 lady Warriors run had unfortunately ended, but the girls return next year down only two members, seniors Sadie Mead and Lexi Persoon, who were crucial to the team’s success, but hopefully inspired other members to fill their roles,” said coach Castaneda. Carpinteria girls win U14 AYSO championship title

The Carpinteria girls’ U14 regular season AYSO team not only qualified to compete in the Section 10 League Championship Tournament in Bakersfield, held Feb. 15-16, but also walked away with the top honors. Section 10 is comprised of well over 60,000 youth soccer players from 60 different regions and the local girls earned the right to be called the best U14 team in all of Section 10 after a hard-fought weekend. “Leading up to the tournament I challenged the girls to play for each other and they stepped up and beat five really good teams to win the title,” said head coach Pedro Casas. The Carpinteria squad did not allow a goal all weekend, which was the key to victory according to Casas. “Our defense was terrific, and every single girl played a role in our success. Any time you can play five games in a tournament of this size and caliber and not give up a single goal, you know it was a total team effort,” he added. With the win, the team earned a trip to the 2020 AYSO Western States Tournament in Bullhead City, Arizona, next month. Many of the same girls will return to Bakersfield this weekend to take part in the Section 10 All-Star Championship Tournament in hopes of having that team also advance to the Western States Tournament.
