The Carp United Girls U14 team had a great time competing in the May 7 and 8 Strawberry Cup Tournament in Camarillo. The weekend started slowly with a close 3-2 win against Santa Barbara but quickly picked up speed with a 3-0 shutout against Canyon Country followed by a 6-0 shutout against Palos Verdes. The girls seeded first in their pool and advanced to the championship round facing Newbury Park. The fight for first place ended in 1-1 tie after overtime. After a valiant try, Carp United came up a little bit short in the PK shootout, landing the team a solid second-place finish. The coaches remain impressed with the girls’ tenacity and spirit, especially in the championship game where they faced the competition with a minimum number of players and no subs. U12 girls finish third in Strawberry Cup

Carpinteria United girls U12 captured third place with a 5-3 win over Chino Hills in the third-place game of the Strawberry Cup on May 8. The team won its two May 7 games, 5-1 versus San Luis Obispo and 3-2 against Culver City, but lost to Santa Barbara 3-1 in the semifinals. “These young athletes came off an impressive Saturday showing to bring us into a much anticipated Sunday. The Strawberry Cup is typically a very competitive tournament and to place in the final three is something they should be very proud of,” commented coaches Jorge Reynoso, Marc Medina and Pedro Casas.
