Four blue gum eucalyptus trees were spared the ax yet again this week when the Carpinteria City Council voted against the Tree Advisory Board’s recommendation for removal. The trees, planted about 135 years ago, are part of a city historical landmark. Their age, natural limb-dropping tendencies and proximity to a playground structure put them in the city’s crosshairs for removal, but outspoken members of the public tipped the council toward preservation.
