Did you know in 2019 Skills is celebrating its 100th year anniversary!

100 1919

Founded in 1919, Skills Day Trips started with a Saturday Express Service to Bridlington and Scarborough in 1927. Later this service expanded to include Filey and Whitby – one of our most popular destinations to date!

Growing from strength to strength, today we take over 12,000 passengers a year to over 200 destinations helping you to create treasured memories.

OUR HERITAGE: SKILLS TIMELINE 1919

Arthur Skill started work delivering fish but later started taking local miners to and from Bestwood Colliery.

1921

Mr Skill purchased his first ‘proper bus’, an ex-War Department ambulance fitted with a 14-seater charabanc body.

1927

Skills began operating a seasonal Saturday express service to Bridlington and Scarborough. Eventually, Skills started a service to Filey and Whitby (Destinations that are still popular today)!

1928

Arthur aquired a large site in St Peter’s Street to use as a garage for his fleet. He only had 8 vehicles but it showed his initiative and by 1939 there were 24 coaches!

1945

New and longer holiday excursions were introduced, giving customers more choice.

1970’s

Skills introduced shopping trips to France. This developed into Continental touring on a regular basis to Austria, Holland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

1987

Nigel Skill and his brother Simon brought the company to become Managing Directors.

2002

The company moved to a purpose built site in Bulwell.

2019

The Skills Group celebrates it’s centenary year in business and intends to continue growing long into the 21st Century
