Alumni Relations as a Strategic Partner in the Educational Enterprise

The field of alumni relations is one that is not always well understood. Noted nonprofit thought leader Frances Hesselbein states, “There is a need for a common language which results in a common vision leading to common ground.” This session advances a common language about how to think about the field and outlines 10 ways alumni relations advances the institution and enriches the lives of students and alumni. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of alumni relations and enrollment management. In UT's strategic plan, enrollment growth and philanthropy are cited as the two additional sources of funding which will fuel the institution's growth. Best practice in alumni relations will be shared about other leading institutions throughout the globe. speakers Kari Alldredge, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Lee Patouillet, Associate Vice Chancellor, Alumni Affairs, and Chief Alumni Officer, University of Tennessee, Knoxville

She shared that our winter institute attendance continues to grow although we have work to do on the CASE Summit. She invited Mo Cotton Kelly to share the current plans for the Summit and CAAE’s specific activities. CAAE will be contributing content/presentations for four breakout sessions. This year the Summit is July 15 – 17, 2018 at the New York Marriott Marquis. It was stressed by Steve Hall how important it is for CAAE to show up for the Summit and be active participants.

IV.

Treasurer’s Report (Todd McCubbin)

Todd McCubbin reported on the recent financial review. Total assets grew by $65,000, and revenue and expenses were on target. This year to date we have exceeded our partner targets and membership is coming in on track. Expenses and revenues were both on track. Reserves are up to a level where we are going to be considering how to best use the funds to further service to members. Hall suggested that we continue to consider using the healthy budget to reduce cost to members for the Summit. Joe Irwin moved and Jeff Davis second approval/acceptance of the financial review Dick also shared with the membership that our contract at the Hyatt is nearing completion and we are in negotiations with the property but will be doing due diligence to ensure we are securing the most attractive rates and property possible for our needs. Several members encouraged the board to maintain the quality of the property.
