scammers posing as bank fraud investigators

In one case, a victim was persuaded to hand over $15,000 in cash In another, a couple surrendered their debit cards and PINs, resulting in more than $9,000 in unauthorized charges

According to investigators, the scam typically involves a phone call from someone claiming to be from the victim’s bank The caller warns of suspicious account activity and insists that immediate action is needed. Victims are then instructed to withdraw large sums of cash or hand over their debit cards and PINs In several cases, scammers even

arranged for Ubers to collect the money or cards, telling victims to place the envelope in the back seat without speaking to the driver

BSO officials emphasized that no legitimate bank will ever request cash withdrawals or ask for cards and PINs to be sent through a ride-share service

The warning is especially relevant in Broward, which is home to one of the largest Caribbean-American populations in the United States Cities like Lauderdale Lakes, Miramar, and North Lauderdale have strong Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, and other West Indian communities some neighbor-

Jamaican ska pioneer Owen Gray dies at 86 in the UK

Owen Gray, one of the first artists to bring Jamaican music to international audiences and a foundational figure in the ska movement, died on Sunday, July 20, in London. He was 86

His daughter, Antonitte Gray, confirmed his passing but did not disclose a cause of death She noted, however, that the singer had suffered a stroke four years ago and had been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019

Born in St Mary, Jamaica, on July 5, 1939, Gray was a multi-instrumentalist who showed musical promise from an early age, winning his first talent contest at nine He later honed his craft at the famed Alpha Boys School in Kingston, a training ground for many of Jamaica’s most influential musicians

Gray’s career began in the late 1950s when he performed in nightclubs across Kingston and recorded “Please Let Me Go,” a breakout hit in Jamaica that also found success in the United Kingdom But it was his 1960 song “Patricia” the first release on Chris Blackwell’s Island Records — that cemented his legacy as a trailblazer of Jamaican popular music

He was also the first artist to sing in praise of a sound system — with his 1959 track “On the Beach,” an ode to Sir Coxsone Dodd’s Downbeat system — helping to establish a tradition that would influence generations of dancehall artists

Gray migrated to the United Kingdom in 1962 during a wave of West Indian migration and quickly found a following among Britain’s Caribbean community and the emerging Mod scene His dynamic blend of ska, R&B, and rocksteady made him a mainstay in clubs and music halls across the UK and Europe

Guyana launches landmark premiumfree crop insurance for rice farmers

In a groundbreaking move to protect farmers from climate-induced losses, Guyana President Dr Irfaan Ali on Tuesday launched a premium-free crop insurance programme for rice farmers, hailing it as a historic step toward climate resilience and agricultural modernization

The initiative — a collaboration between the Government of Guyana, Indian agrochemical giant United Phosphorus Limited (UPL), and Philip Morris International — will provide approximately 6,000 rice farmers with free insurance coverage against extreme weather events such as flooding and drought Farmers will not be required to pay any premiums, making the programme the first of its kind in the Caribbean region

“This programme is not just relief It is a lifeline for you,” President Ali told farmers gathered at the Region Two launch “For years we have talked about crop insurance but little traction was made until now This is what makes today so historic ”

The new insurance scheme forms part of a broader national strategy to boost food security, improve access to credit, and promote climate-smart farming practices

Richardson

President Ali urged commercial banks to adjust their lending frameworks now that farmers have insurance backing

“Now you can go to the bank with your insurance We are challenging the banks: with this insurance, the risk is reduced, and the cost of lending to our farmers must reduce

2023, I spoke about principled conduct, community problemsolving, and the dangers of cynicism in our politics,” Richardson wrote “I still believe that ” Richardson’s tenure has been marked by efforts to restore the relevance and effectiveness of Bermuda’s political opposition He described the period as one of “unprecedented institutional imbalance,” noting that the OBA had to work quickly and systematically not simply to oppose the government, but to rebuild democratic opposition itself

Under his leadership, the OBA launched what Richardson called “the most comprehensive internal reform and policy development process the party has seen ” This included public town halls, platform development, and outreach efforts aimed at engaging voters beyond partisan lines

“We presented the public with substance, not slogans,” he said “Our reforms have allowed us an opportunity for a planned and principled leadership transition, marking our institutional maturity That is something worth celebrating ”

Though Richardson did not cite any specific controversy or crisis behind the timing of his resignation, he emphasized the toll leadership has taken on his personal life

“Leadership practically carries a real weight It touches every corner of one ’ s life family, health, friendships, and peace,” he noted, thanking his colleagues and family for their support over the past two years

His announcement paves the way for the party to begin selecting a successor It’s unclear whether a new leader will be in place by the time he steps down in September, but Richardson expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for a smooth transition

“The political fight in Bermuda is for the future of this country For its ability to govern itself fairly For its young people to see politics as a calling, not a performance,” he wrote Richardson, who also serves as a Justice of the Peace, reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying he would continue to work as an MP and advocate for better governance “Government is not for preening or settling scores,” he added “Government is for education, infrastructure, and public trust ”

The OBA, once Bermuda’s governing party, has been working to regain ground after significant losses in recent elections Richardson’s resignation marks a pivotal moment for the party as it attempts to rebrand and rebuild ahead of the next general election

No candidates to replace Richardson have been publicly confirmed

A group of members of the Jamaican diaspora living in the United States organized a protest against the Jamaican government for its failure to manage crime, violence, and corruption in the country

substantially,” he said “We want farmers to become wealthy to have less tax burden and more disposable income ”

As part of the rollout, the government also announced a pilot rice farming system that will incorporate modern technology and advanced tools to boost productivity and

“transformative moment” for the sector

“From now, you will be covered by this product so that you can be compensated when these things happen,” he said, referencing past difficulties accessing agricultural insurance in Guyana

“We are the first country in the entire region that is launching a product to cover our rice farmers,” Mustapha added “This is not just about risk reduction It is about empowerment ”

UPL executive Jaidev Shroff commended Guyana’s leadership, noting that agriculture is among the sectors hardest hit by climate change “Farmers can not only feed the world — we believe that farmers can help decarbonize the world if they are incentivized right,” he said

With rice remaining a cornerstone of Guyana’s agricultural exports, the government hopes the programme will eventually be expanded nationwide and serve as a model for climate-resilient farming throughout the Caribbean

Antigua did not put Rowley on Interpol watch list, says minister

Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Chet Greene, has voiced concern over what he sees as a breakdown in regional diplomatic protocol after former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was stopped twice by immigration authorities at VC Bird International Airport without the Antiguan government’s prior knowledge

Rowley, who stepped down from office in March, revealed this week that he was flagged during two separate visits to Antigua on July 13 and again days later while returning to Trinidad from Montserrat On both occasions, he was asked to wait by immigration officials and later told he had been placed on a list, which he initially believed to be an Interpol watch list

H e s a i d d u r i n g t h e fi r s t encounter, despite presenting his diplomatic passport, he was escorted to an executive lounge by Antiguan security officers after what he described as a significant delay A second encounter allegedly involved a similar stop, though a supervisor reportedly explained it was a case of mistaken identity

Speaking publicly for the first time since the reports emerged, Minister Greene said he was disappointed that Antigua and Barbuda a sovereign Caribbean state was neither informed of Rowley’s travel plans nor given the opportunity to formally acknowledge a former regional leader

“There were no provisions made especially or particularly for Dr Rowley passing through,” Greene said “And you know that in itself is where we have a concern because we

would like to know that our protocol is extended to persons who would have served this region ” He described the incident as regrettable, noting that Antigua had now been drawn into what he termed a “local political matter” Greene declined to comment on whether Dr Rowley had, in fact, been placed on any security list, noting that he had not spoken directly to immigration authorities and that any further comment would be inappropriate “Antigua and Barbuda does not have any comments to make on this matter, which seemingly is, even from Dr Rowley’s account, a local political development,” he said In Trinidad and Tobago, both the Police Commissioner and Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander have denied any government involvement in flagging the former prime minister “Just like everybody else, I am wondering from whence that came,”

Alexander said “We have no information about that The Government of Trinidad and Tobago did not put anybody, from my knowledge, on any watch list not that particular individual (Rowley) or anyone else ”

He emphasized that Interpol operates independently, and that the government does not interfere with its procedures. While no formal investigation is planned, Alexander said the matter may still be examined internally

US arrests Haitian-American political

figure for role in Haiti’s

U.S. immigration authorities have arrested Pierre Reginald Boulos, a Haitian national and lawful permanent resident of the United States, for alleged violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act tied to actions contributing to the destabilization of Haiti.

Boulos was taken into custody on July 17 by U S Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations

In Haiti, Boulos was known as a doctor and popular businessman He was the former president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry In July 2021, Boulos was preparing to run for president when President Jovenel Moise was murdered

According to federal authorities, Boulos engaged in a pattern of violent activity and gang support linked to Haiti’s spiraling unrest

The U S State Department concluded that his

presence in the United States posed potential serious adverse foreign policy consequences, forming the legal basis for his removal under Section 237(a)(4)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act

Officials say Boulos supported Haitian

destabilization

gangs connected to Viv Ansanm, a group designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U S , and helped fuel ongoing instability in the country He also allegedly misrepresented his background on his U S residency application failing to disclose his founding role in the Haitian political party Mouvement pour la Transformation et la Valorisation

d’Haïti (MTV Ayiti) and past corruption referrals from Haiti’s anti-corruption agency related to loan misuse

Boulos is currently being held in ICE custody by Enforcement and Removal Operations while proceedings continue

In a statement, the U S government reiterated that individuals who hold legal immigration status in the United States will face consequences if they are found to be aiding violent or terrorist groups abroad

“These actions underscore our commitment to protecting the American people, advancing our national security interests, and promoting regional stability,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement

In a separate statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: “I am pleased to announce

the latest U S actions against individuals whose presence and activities in our country have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States

“Specifically, the Department of State has determined that certain individuals with U S lawful permanent resident status have supported and collaborated with Haitian gang leaders connected to Viv Ansanm, a Haitian Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) Viv Ansanm is a driver of the violence and criminality in Haiti contributing to the island’s instability The United States will not allow individuals to enjoy the benefits of legal status in our country while they are facilitating the actions of violent organizations or supporting criminal terrorist organizations ”

Boulos is the latest in a string of individuals targeted by U S authorities for their alleged support of gangs and political violence in Haiti as Washington steps up pressure on those believed to be contributing to the nation’s deepening crisis

Federal Court reinstates TPS for Haitians until 2026

A federal court ruling on Saturday has reinstated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals, extending protections until February 3, 2026 The decision grants more than half a million Haitians — including many living and working in South Florida — the right to remain in the United States with valid work permits

The ruling comes after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had previously announced plans to end TPS for Haiti this September, citing that the country no longer met the conditions for the designation However, a New York judge blocked the termination last week, halting the Trump administration’s effort to end the program early

Haitian-American Congresswoman

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), who represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, welcomed the decision, calling it a “hard-fought legal victory for the Haitian community and all who have stood in defense of our immigrant families ”

“The court’s ruling makes clear what we have always known: TPS holders deserve stability, protection, and respect, not political games or legal uncertainty,” she said in a statement “Because of this ruling, deportations tied to the now-vacated February order cannot proceed, and Haitian TPS holders can continue to live and work in the U S with authorization through February 3, 2026 ” Cherfilus-McCormick also emphasized the need to reinstate those who were wrongfully terminated from jobs due to confusion surrounding their work permits, noting that many TPS holders are essential workers and taxpayers

“This is the enforcement of the law,” she added “Our communities should not have to rely on court orders to be treated with dignity ” The Department of Homeland Security said it “vehemently” disagrees with the court’s decision and is currently reviewing its options

Banning workplace relationships can be difficult

Social media exploded over the last week with videos, memes, and commentary about a cuddling couple caught on the jumbotron at a Coldplay concert in Boston, Massachusetts

The video, which had over 70 million views by Monday, showed a man and woman swaying and smiling, clearly enjoying the music until they realized they were on the big screen and quickly ducked out of view

Soon after the video was posted, it emerged that the man was the married CEO of a New York City-based tech company called Astronomer The woman?

The head of the company ’ s HR department and not his wife

R e a c t i o n s w e r e s w i f t Astronomer’s board of directors launched an immediate investigation into the public display involving two of its executives

News of the CEO’s resignation followed shortly after, along with the board’s acceptance of it

In a statement to the media, the company said:

“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met ”

Public opinion was divided

Some mocked the couple for being so bold while in a cheating relationship Others felt it was an invasion of privacy Many weighed in on Astronomer’s nonromantic relationship policy and

similar rules at other companies

Globally, workplace romance policies are controversial Critics argue it’s unrealistic to expect men and women working closely for long hours not to develop personal feelings After all, many marriages began at work

Still, the rationale for restricting or banning workplace relationships is usually about risk management protecting the company and its employees

When one partner holds power over the other, as in supervisorsubordinate relationships, concerns arise about favoritism

Even if none exists, the perception of bias can erode morale

Things get riskier if a consensual relationship ends badly There’s potential for harassment claims, toxic work environments, or lawsuits A soured relationship can also bring drama and distraction, harming team cohesion and productivity

Most companies want to avoid

scandal and maintain a professional image But total bans on workplace romance may not be practical Human nature makes office relationships inevitable Men and women often spend eight or more hours a day working together, solving problems, and forming close emotional bonds

Behavioral experts say outright bans can backfire driving relationships underground and making them harder to manage Employees may also resent policies that feel like intrusions into their private lives

S

allowing workplace romances

Employees especially in powerdynamic relationships should be required to inform HR Many specialists recommend banning supervisor-subordinate romances altogether while allowing peer-topeer relationships

agreements,” which couples sign to confirm the relationship is voluntary and that they understand company policies on sexual harassment

Even in workplaces where romance is permitted, public displays of affection are often banned While companies cannot be expected to tolerate extramarital affairs, total relationship bans tend to be unrealistic A regulated approach may be more effective

Employees should be required to discreetly notify HR when entering a romantic relationship with a colleague If the relationship involves a supervisor and a subordinate, companies may reassign one party or prohibit the pairing entirely Violations could result in resignation, reassignment, or termination

As noted, both parties can also sign agreements affirming the relationship is consensual and acknowledging the company ’ s harassment policies

E v e n w h e n w o r k p l a c e relationships are permitted, it’s important to have rules in place

Couples should be expected to maintain professionalism, keep their romance outside work hours, and handle breakups maturely to minimize disruption to workplace dynamics

Companies must also ensure that such relationships don’t i n t e r f e r e w i t h p e r f o rmance—those involved should still meet deadlines, maintain objectivity, and help the team meet its goals

United Airlines to launch new flight to Dominica in October 2025

The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) has announced a major development in the island’s tourism sector: United Airlines will introduce a new flight to Dominica beginning in October 2025 The move is being hailed as a “significant enhancement” to Dominica’s growing airlift capacity

In a statement released this week, the DHTA noted that the additional United Airlines service complements the recent expansion of American Airlines flights and highlights the island’s rising appeal as a premier Caribbean destination. The Association said the increase in air connectivity is expected to drive sustained tourism growth and reinforce Dominica’s presence on both the regional and global tourism stage

The new service builds on the success of United’s existing weekly flights from the TriState area and other key U S markets With flights now available for booking for the upcoming winter season, the increased frequency is expected to encourage shorter, more flexible trips and attract a wider range of visitors — from adventure seekers to leisure travelers and diaspora members

“This is a positive step forward for Dominica’s tourism industry,” said DHTA President Kitwani Ferreria “Reliable and frequent airlift is key to driving visitor arrivals, supporting our hotel and tourism businesses, and solidifying Dominica’s place on the global tourism map These additional flights from both United Airlines and American Airlines not only make travel easier but also signal growing confidence in Dominica as a destination of choice ”

The DHTA also sees the expanded airlift as a catalyst for broader collaboration with international travel advisors, tour operators, and the Dominican diaspora According to the Association, more flights are likely to result in increased visitor spending, new opportunities for local service providers, and economic benefits that ripple through communities across the island

“There was a real buzz in Trinidad Antigua and Barbuda is a top Caribbean destination for the Trinidad traveller and mall-goers had numerous inquiries for the

Tourism boost: Jamaica adds flights from Latin America, Europe

Jamaica is experiencing a major boost in airlift and connectivity from Latin America, Europe, Canada, and the United States — a move that government officials say is transforming the island’s tourism landscape

According to State Minister for Tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright, the improvements in air access are already driving strong visitor growth and opening the door to new markets

“The airlift and air connectivity we are witnessing today are no longer a distant dream; they are a reality that will continue to enhance our tourism sector for the foreseeable future,” Seiveright told JIS News, crediting Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett’s “tireless efforts” for making it happen

Copa Airlines now operates seven weekly flights to Montego Bay and five to Kingston, while LATAM Airlines offers nonstop service between Lima, Peru, and Jamaica — bringing in more than 10,000 seats per month from Latin America alone Charter services from Ecuador are also expected to bring over 1,000 visitors to the island this summer

“This surge in airlift is not just about numbers,” Seiveright added “It translates into real economic benefits for our communities

More flights mean more visitors, which in turn leads to increased spending in our hotels, restaurants, attractions, and local shops ”

In a bid to ease travel to Jamaica’s northeast coast, American Airlines has introduced service to Ian Fleming International Airport, in Boscobel, St Mary, reducing drive times for tourists headed to St Ann, St Mary, and Portland

The new schedule, which begins

December 18, will include two daily flights to and from the Ian Fleming airport and four daily flights from Kingston to Miami, a key hub for the Jamaican diaspora

The Government’s broader strategy includes diversifying tourism beyond traditional markets by tapping into highgrowth regions such as the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East Officials say this will strengthen the sector’s resilience and longterm sustainability

“With expanded connectivity and access, Jamaica is not only more reachable — it’s more competitive,” Seiveright said “A happy visitor is one who spends more and is likely to return, and we are committed to ensuring that their experience is hassle-free from the moment they leave their cities ”

Broward judge sanctioned for multiple ethics violations

The Florida Supreme Court has formally sanctioned Broward County Circuit Judge Stefanie Moon for multiple violations of judicial ethics, ordering a 10-day suspension without pay, a $2,115 40 fine, and a mandatory public reprimand before the state’s highest court

In a unanimous decision issued July 17, the court approved a negotiated resolution between Judge Moon and the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC), which had filed three separate complaints against her The justices described her conduct as “unacceptable” and warned that any future violations would not be tolerated Judge Moon admitted to violating several provisions of the Florida Code of Judicial

Conduct in three unrelated incidents

In one instance, while presiding from the bench in her judicial robe, Moon asked an attorney who had just completed a hearing why he had not returned her call about joining her re-election committee The court noted the attorney was left concerned that refusing to support her campaign might negatively affect his clients

In a separate case, Moon engaged in a prohibited ex parte communication by speaking directly with a mental health therapist involved in a divorce proceeding without either party or their attorneys present—violating Canon 3B(7)(a) of the judicial code Moon also made approximately $2,000 in

political contributions between 2020 and 2024 to organizations including ActBlue and the Biden-Harris campaign, despite Canon 7A(1)(e) strictly barring judges from contributing to political candidates or parties

The court found her actions violated Canons 1, 2A, 3B(7)(a), and 7A(1)(e), all aimed at maintaining public confidence in the impartiality and integrity of the judiciary Moon had previously received a caution from the JQC in 2019 for campaign-related misconduct “Our Court does not often come upon a judicial discipline case in which a single judge has violated the Code of Judicial Conduct in such distinct ways in wholly unrelated incidents Judge Moon’s conduct is unacceptable,” the court wrote in its ruling

Despite the serious breaches, the JQC recommended a moderate penalty, citing Moon’s cooperation, remorse, and acceptance of responsibility The court ultimately accepted the recommendation but issued a stark warning: “The Court cannot tolerate any further misconduct by Judge Moon ” The unpaid suspension will begin on a date set by the Chief Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Moon is also required to pay $2,115 40 equal to the amount of her improper political contributions and appear before the Florida Supreme Court for a public reprimand, the date of which will be scheduled by the Clerk of Court

Last Tuesday, the jury found Akam & Associates to be 57% at fault, the Monte Carlo Condominium

Miami’s first Cuban-born Mayor

Xavier Suarez files to run again

Xavier Suarez, Miami’s first Cuban-born mayor, has filed to run for his old job, after a judge ruled the city’s attempt to postpone this year ’ s mayoral election was unconstitutional

“I’m throwing my hat back in the ring,” said Suarez, who served as mayor until 1998 and is the father of current Mayor Francis Suarez

Now 76, Suarez made history when he first took office as the city’s Cuban-born leader, a milestone that resonated deeply in Miami’s large Cuban-American community His bid to return could set the stage for a political rematch with longtime rival Joe Carollo, a current city commissioner rumored to be eyeing a mayoral run The two last faced off in 1997, when Carollo won after a court battle

“Filing for mayor, you know, it’s been a bit of a wait because the judge had to make a decision,” Suarez said

That decision came Monday, when a judge struck down the Miami City Commission’s controversial 3-2 vote to delay the election until 2026 Supporters of the delay claimed it would improve voter turnout and reduce costs by aligning city elections with federal ones held in even-numbered years

Suarez wasn’t convinced He said the logic didn’t hold up and the change sidestepped legal requirements

Commissioner Carollo, despite benefiting from the proposed delay, voted against it The measure would have extended his term and that of Mayor Francis Suarez

The lawsuit challenging the postponement was filed by Emilio Gonzalez, a former city manager now running for mayor He argued the city needed voter approval to change an election date The judge agreed, reinforcing that such changes require a public referendum

The city plans to appeal the ruling, with a final decision expected within three weeks

Meanwhile, Suarez’s entrance adds new momentum to a race already under legal and political scrutiny and reignites a decades-old rivalry that once defined a pivotal chapter in Miami’s political history

Judge blocks Miami’s attempt to delay 2025 mayoral election

A judge has ruled that the City of Miami cannot delay its 2025 mayoral election, delivering a major blow to city commissioners who voted last month to push the contest to 2026

The ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by mayoral candidate and former City Manager Emilio Gonzalez, who argued the commission’s decision violated both the Florida Constitution and the City of Miami Charter The judge agreed, stating that any change to an election date must first be approved by voters at the ballot box

City commissioners had approved the motion in June, aiming to move the upcoming November election to an evennumbered year Supporters of the plan said it was intended to increase voter turnout, which typically dips in odd-year municipal contests

But critics viewed the move as an overreach that threatened to disenfranchise voters Gonzalez’s lawsuit claimed the commission had no legal authority to alter the timing of elections without first seeking voter input

In siding with Gonzalez, the court reinforced the requirement that such changes must be put to a public referendum The City of Miami, however, is not backing down Officials have announced plans to appeal the decision

The legal pushback was not limited to Gonzalez Michael Hepburn, another candidate in the 2025 mayoral race and a former University of Miami administrator, had also voiced strong opposition to the delay Of Bahamian descent, Hepburn is hoping to become the city’s first Black mayor He threatened to file his own lawsuit against the city, arguing that postponing the election by a full year is not only unconstitutional but also an affront to democratic principles

Florida Gov Ron DeSantis and State Attorney James Uthmeir also warned that changing election dates without a public vote could violate the Miami-Dade County charter and the Florida Constitution

The controversy has cast uncertainty over the city’s upcoming political season, with legal challenges likely to continue as the scheduled 2025 election approaches

Sara Misir makes history with victory at Monaco Grand Prix in maiden E1 Series season

Under the sun-drenched skies of Monte Carlo and the glittering gaze of global sports royalty, Sara Misir Jamaica’s pioneering motorsport star achieved a historic milestone on Sunday, July 20, claiming Team Blue Rising’s first-ever victory in the UIM E1 World Championship at the Monaco Grand Prix

Misir, partnering with Belgian driver John Peeters, executed a flawless performance in the all-electric RaceBird vessel, seizing the win through razor-sharp handling, bold early overtakes, and a strategic “joker lap” that caught their rivals off guard Their triumph not only ignited celebrations at the iconic harborfront but also confirmed Team Blue Rising’s emergence as a legitimate championship contender

The Monaco win comes on the heels of two strong performances earlier in the season: a third-place finish in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (January 25) and another P3 at Italy’s Lago Maggiore Grand Prix (June 28) Now sitting fourth overall with 114 championship points, Team Blue Rising has firmly cemented its place in the upper echelon of the E1 standings

What makes this moment even more electrifying is the level of competition Teams backed by international icons Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, and LeBron James were all part of the fiercely contested Monte Carlo field. Yet it was Misir and Peeters who rose above the noise, piloting their vessel with seamless coordination and composure

As champagne sprayed and flags waved across the harbor, a beaming Misir reflected on the magnitude of the moment:

“It’s an absolute honor to stand atop the podium representing Jamaica and Team Blue Rising,” she said “This is a milestone not just for us as a team, but for women in motorsports across the world because this is my debut season and I just hope to keep improving as I go along ”

“It’s an absolute honor to stand atop the podium representing Jamaica and Team Blue Rising This is a milestone not just for us as a team, but for women in motorsports across the world because this is my debut season and I just hope to keep improving as I go along.” – Misir

The awards ceremony was presided over by E1 Chairman Alejandro Agag and attended by a glittering roster of sporting legends Among the notable faces in the crowd were LeBron James, Didier Drogba, and Tom Brady a powerful

endorsement of the E1 Series’ blend of elite competition, sustainability, and global star power For Sara Misir, already a four-time Jamaican Motorsports Athlete of the Year, the win marks another chapter in what has become a meteoric rise through the racing world As the Caribbean’s first female professional race car driver, she is now shattering barriers on water as well as on land

Team Blue Rising, co-owned by Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli, competes in the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship, where sustainability, innovation, and gender equity are cornerstones of competition

With the E1 Series heading next to Lagos in October and Miami in November, the team’s trajectory suggests that more podium finishes and perhaps a title challenge could be on the horizon

While Just 4 Fun Carnival Band, celebrating its 25th anniversary, came strong with “25 Years of MAS,” featuring 2,000 revellers and proving why it remains one of the island’s most enduring and iconic bands Under the leadership of Veil Tobiere, the band’s milestone year was met with cheers and admiration

Other bands also lit up the streets with flair; Tribe of Twel paid homage to tradition with Bel Wad ek Soulye, Xpressions Carnival Band, now in its third year, infused folkloric motifs in Folklore. Fuzion Mas, Island Tribe, Royalites Xtreme, Phoenix, and Legends Carnival Band all added diverse elements of pageantry and performance Newcomer Nexus, though not officially listed on Monday’s lineup, made a surprise appearance and was well received by the crowd

The pulsating soundtrack of the day kept hips swaying and flags waving from sunrise to sunset The road was alive with 2025’s biggest soca anthems in St Lucia, including: Ezra D’Funmachine’s Miserable, Dezral and Jardel’s Car, Calto’s I Cry, Remote’s Wire Oh, Ricky T and Hollywood HP’s Freakout, Ti Black and Imran Nerdy’s We Di Vibes
