After recent tweets from students caught attention of school officials, we decided to take a deeper look into cyberbullying.

Here is our view and our challenge to you

I

t’s much easier to believe in something when we see it. But what if something happened over the web? Bullying is easier to notice when it is in person. When Billy gets pushed down the stairs. When Jane gets teased about her body. Or when Bob doesn’t have a single friend in school, and other students talk about him during class.

But what happens when the bullying turns into something that not everyone can see? Where words can be deleted and evidence harder to produce?

Because social networking sites and texting are integral in popular teen culture, kids our age have taken advantage of using those outlets as main ways to have conversations. While on Facebook or Twitter, words tend to be easier to type and opinions are shared more often. It’s easier to lash out to others and make fun of them. According to Pew Research, one-third of teenagers who use the web claim they have been “targets of a range of annoying and potentially menacing online activities,” of which included threatening messages, reading private emails or texts, or having rumors spread about them on the web.

We, as a staff, believe any type of bullying is wrong. This issue, we took a look specifically at cyberbullying. High school students can say some pretty harsh things on the Internet

that they would never have the courage to say in person. There’s something about having something written about you for everyone to see that especially hurts. Senior Steven Greathouse abliges to this. “I see posts where people are literally putting people’s names on statuses and completely bullying them right there,” Greathouse said. “Words can be a very dangerous thing. They can stick with someone for years and dictate his or her life.

People let horrible words shape his beliefs as what they really are. What part of that is fair for anyone?”

Valentine’s Day has passed. But a certain aspect of it should be used every day; love yourself. Dr. Seuss said it best: “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is ‘you-er’ than you.” No matter what words are said, no one can take away someone’s identity.

We want to challenge our readers. Think the next time before you say something about someone, before you type a mean message or comment to another person. Take a minute to yourself and breath and count to 100. By then, you have time to think about what you are truly saying, what you truly mean. Don’t let words dictate what another student feels about his or herself. You are a gift, and nobody can take that from you. Let’s think about that next time harsh words come to our minds.

Let’s stop bullying. Now.

Valentine’s Day; why do we remember to celebrate love only during this particular day? Love and friendship should be awarded daily

Why do we choose one day a year to show the love we have? Maybe this Valentine’s Day you were going too crazy because you couldn’t find the right gift for the person you “love.”

Maybe this year you even had a different valentine than you did last year. Why? Perhaps it’s because what you feel isn’t true love.

What does the act of loving mean to you? Is it giving a gift? Buying flowers? Is it taking your date out to eat? Is it to thinking of him/her during Valentine’s Day? If love means

any of these things to you, you’re absolutely wrong. To love goes beyond doing all these acts; to love is to understand, to support, to value, and many other things that have nothing to do with material things, but instead, it’s emotional and spiritual.

For example, what do you think love means to God? The answer is John 3:16, for Him it means sending His only son to die for us, is to forget about our sins when we ask for forgiveness, is being loyal to us when we’re disloyal, is to always being by our side.

His love for us is called, Agape; it’s perfect love.

Like love, I don’t think we should remember our friends once a year

Undefinably more powerful and prepared for combat, and completely rejuvenated, Gandalf would reduce Dumbledore to ashes with his amplified powers. In this form, Gandalf can obliterate legions of men with a single slam of his staff.

THE TRUE LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP

The human love we show and the human friendship we show are nothing compared to God’s incomparable love and unparalleled friendship.

If you have ever been a victim of a false love or false friendship, know that the true love and true friendship only comes from Him. Let Him show the true love He has for you.

It’s true everyone needs love, it’s

fundamental for every person, but you can’t love anyone else if you don’t love God first. We all need to give and receive love. But this word is so manipulated and complex that is necessary to comprehend what true love really is – God is love.

I didn’t know this truth before, but after watching an inspirational movie, “Fireproof,” I came to understand this reality. As one of the protagonists, Caleb Holt, fights for the love of his wife, he comes to the conclusion that he cannot love her because he doesn’t love God above all things. This truth is very significant for a couple, or for any other relationship. Think about this before buying your loved one flowers or any other romantic gift for the next Valentine’s Day.

Comparisons are often made between two similar individuals.

Below, we’ve taken two of the most famous wizards, and we ask:

In summary: Supposing Dumbledore does kill Gandalf the Grey, which is highly doubtful in itself, he would be far too tired and weak to deal with the colossal power of Gandalf the White. It is simply too lopsided of a comparison. No amount of magic can allow a human to destroy a divine supernatural being.

Dumbledore is also able to perform Legilimency, which is the ability to extract emotions and memories from another person’s mind (the word literally translates to mind reading). Dumbledore could delve into Gandalf’s mind and find out Gandalf’s next move. Dumbledore can also become invisible without wearing an Invisibility Cloak, so Gandalf would not be able to see him.

what’s new Since we last met:

THE COSTA CONCORDIA ran aground Jan. 13 a few hours after leaving the Italian port of Civitavecchia. The captain of the ship, Francesco Schettino, is now under arrest on suspicion of manslaughter after admitting to making a navigational error.

He is reported to have left the ship in a lifeboat before all the passengers had been rescued, an action that is against protocol. There are 2,400 tons of fuel in the ship that must be extracted before attempts to remove the ship can be made.

As of Jan. 29, there were 17 casualties and 15 people still unaccounted for.

There were 4,200 total passengers.

Also known as the Day of Ashes, this day marks the start of Lent in Christianity, the 40-day period of fasting and abstinence. There are several Bull Dogs observing Lent, including senior Rachel Davison.

“I typically give up soda,” Davison said. “I’ve given up other things, like my GameBoy when I was little. I’ve thought about not wearing makeup this year but I don’t know yet. Welding students work during third period Feb. 8. Police and deans conducted a search in this classroom for a reported gun during the Jan. 27 Code Blue. “The police told the teachers for everyone to stay in the classroom,” junior Sergio Jimenez said. “I was nervous because I didn’t know what was wrong.”

Out of the blue

In the middle of third period Jan. 27, students and faculty were unexpectedly put on a 45-minute school lockdown because there was a report of a student possessing a gun on campus. Several phone calls were received by the main office from worried parents seeking answers that could not be confirmed at the time.

Although no one was injured during the episode, procedures were re-examined to help with such situations for the future

Senior Ricardo DeDios remembers Friday, Jan. 27 as a “normal” day. Third period would soon bring that notion to a halt. Upon entering his Welding class third period, DeDios would encounter police and deans searching the room for a gun that a student the period before was reported to have in their possession.

DeDios, who did not know what was going on, recalls the emotions and uncertainty he was feeling as he watched the scene unfold.

“I was worried about what was going to happen, DeDios said, “There were a lot of policemen and deans checking everything in the room for a gun and we as a class were wondering what was going on.”

While the search was taking place, DeDios and his classmates were huddled in the corner of the room talking among themselves, trying to figure out what was going on.

DeDios did not find out until fourth period that the suspect actually worked in the same area as he did, a fact he found “weird.”

Looking back on the chaotic day, DeDios felt a

sense of relief from knowing that nothing critical happened.

Preparing for the worst

Although there is no concrete way of predicting a Code Blue, there are precautions students can take should something suspicious occur. Mr. Clark urges students: - Stay calm and patient - Don’t make up information - Refrain from repeating what you hear - Listen to the P.A. announcements once they come on

Not the first time

Despite its reputation for signaling an intruder or threat, a code blue can also potentially serve as an alert for an environmental crisis. The Jan. 27 Code Blue was not the first “real” one. Four years ago a Code Blue took place because chemicals were spilled in a science classroom, according to Principal David Clark.

As a result, our school was locked down to protect students and faculty from the chemicals.

Who’s affected?

Any website that offers illegal streaming or download of music or other materials will be found and shut down. Critics of the bill say that it is broad enough to potentially put companies like Google, Facebook, Youtube and others in a tricky situation where they may be forced to monitor user activity for anything suspicious. Critics consider this a major violation of privacy and want the bill to be more detailed. feb. 17, 2012

Junior Jonathan Alessi was in class when he first heard about SOPA

Junior Jonathan Alessi first learned about the situation on the day of the blackout, Jan. 18.

“During Physics second period, (everyone was talking about (SOPA) when we saw that Google had blacked out its logo. Right away, I had no idea what they were talking about, but after a few classes, I found out more about it.”

As he learned more, Alessi was able to form his opinion about the issue.

“I’m against (SOPA) because I believe in free information. I think SOPA is a violation of the inalienable right to liberty. Liberty is more than not being in jail. Liberty is being able to educate yourself.”

Though Alessi is against SOPA, he didn’t participate in the online petitions against the bill.

“I didn’t think (SOPA) had enough credibility to pass through Congress so I didn’t bother.”

My opinion: Here’s why you should care …

The increasingly well-known group as well as their symbol, below, was featured in many recent news articles for their boldest strike yet; the hacking of several government and entertainment industry websites, including those of the FBI and the Department of Justice. The underground group tweeted about its “largest attack ever”, with 5,635 involved in the hacking of these sites. The attack was in response to the SOPA and PIPA bills, but mainly in response to the closing of the filesharing website MegaUpload Jan. 19. The group has a blog at anonops. blogspot.com and a Twitter account.

Changes made to our legislature affect us all, especially when they regard our rights. We, the youth of today, have to be aware of what’s happening because these decisions will affect us in the future, even if they do not in the present.

It’s very important for us to look at the facts and decide whether this issue is truly a violation of free speech and expression, as many critics claim along with their cries of censorship. Form an intelligent opinion, and get it out there!

So maybe you’re not a computer person. Guess what? This still affects you. The reason is that when it comes to laws and rights issues, the matter always spills over into other topics. For example: “Well, that’s not fair for Person B! If Person A gets to do XYZ, then so should Person B.” Thus another issue is raised, another bill debated, etc.

This DOES affect you; so stay aware and keep up with the facts!

Another Valentine’s Day is over. Everything in the holiday aisles filled with red and pink will most likely go on sale. The remnants of candy hearts that state “kiss me,” “luv me,” or “be mine” will soon be replaced by something more current. However, now is the time to focus on something more real than a candy heart. hile juggling cross country, grades and a social life, senior Erin Shuffett certainly has a lot to be thinking about. Instead of being constantly stressed, her confidence and lightheartedness show through in her daily routine.

“I put in the work whether it be school, athletics, etc. (My hard work) makes me feel confident because I set myself up for success and not failure.”

ost people know the famous saying, “confidence is key,” but junior Mason Engel practices it. He has his own ways to make himself feel confident and make the best out of his day.

“Whenever I feel discouraged, I try to bury myself in whatever I am working on at the moment; whether it is soccer, weights, or schoolwork,” Engel said.

Anyone can have goals, but having assurance could make them more achievable.

“The more work I put into something, the more confident I become, because usually more work equates to better performance,” Engel said.

According to Engel, loving yourself over a boyfriend or girlfriend can be challenging.

“If you do (love a boyfriend or girlfriend first) insecurities will abound in the relationship, confidence drops, and you get

clingy,” he said. “Cliché though it may be, you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself.”

Not loving or being pleased with the way you are could affect your relationship.

“Loving someone else, and letting another love you without loving yourself, is a way of making yourself whole, but by means of the least stable and least healthy method,” Engel said.

Engel has his own definitions of what being happy with himself and being content means to him.

“To me, being happy with yourself is not the same as being content. Contentment would mean that you no longer work to fulfill your potential, and that is exactly when I am the least happy,” Engel said. “As long as I’m making myself better in one way or the other, I’m chill.”

Senior Erin Shuffett’s quote to live by is “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” remain upbeat and positive about life. Even though no one is confident all the time, Shuffett has something that always manages to keep her spirits up.

“My friends and family cheer me up when I’m feeling down. They are so supportive and love me no matter what.”

Having encouraging friends can be seen as a contributing factor to feeling confident about oneself.

Shuffett has just that.

“I’m the most comfortable around my close friends because I can be myself and feel confident about who I am.”

Her friends are not the only ones who contribute to Shuffett’s morale; her role model plays a big role as well.

“My mom is my role model because she always seems to be doing the right thing and she is just a loving and caring person.”

Freshman Andrew Gold’s mantra in life is “The person who really wants to do something finds a way, the other person finds an excuse.”

Freshman Andrew Gold feels proud of the dedication he has in school. “I work harder than everyone else and deserve to be confident,” he said.

Self-assured. Poised.

These are all words that describe freshman Andrew Gold, who is driven to be the most productive person out there.

“I am confident but not cocky because I work harder than most people,” Gold said. “I have a good work ethic and push myself to be the best I can be.”

In order to stay productive, Gold listens to music that he can relate to.

“I listen to anything that’s upbeat, like Blink-182 and All Time Low.” According to Gold, his friends make him feel very comfortable and they always find a way to cheer him up. Sports also contribute to his high morale. He finds an escape when he is on the court or

field and playing in a game; at that point, nothing else matters.

“It gives me a place to clear my head,” Gold said.

Gold obtains his principles from the people around him.

“I don’t really have a role model,” he said. “I just kind of take away advice and stuff from everyone.”

Even though Gold does not have a specific role model, he has a very definite idea of what being confident is. “(Loving yourself) means being comfortable with who you are and knowing you don’t need to change.”

When asked how others can be confident, Gold has some advice to offer.

“Just be yourself and work hard. Be confident in your own skin.”

Debie Gedeon Freshman Debie Gedeon’s advice on life is “Always want better for yourself, and never settle.”

T

here is no time not to be confident for freshman Debie Gedeon.

Gedeon knows what happens when she isn’t confident in herself.

Gedeon has had times in life where she needed a boost of confidence.

“My best friend Ali Patburg (cheers me up),” Gedeon said. “She is my other half.”

Gedeon maintains her bold attitude by being around positive people. During the school day, and on the basketball court Gedeon is surrounded by her enthusiastic teammates. “(On the court) my teammates help me in every way. If I get a pass and shoot it, they high-five me,” Gedeon said.

Basketball plays a very important role in Gedeon’s life and has influenced her self-assurance many times.

Dr. Corbin: Confident people tend to make eye contact.They carry themselves with confidence. It has been proven that individuals who appear fearful or appear to lack self-confidence are more likely to become victims of crime.

The Triangle: If you’re having a bad day, what can you do to make yourself feel better?

Dr. Corbin: Breathe; sounds easy, doesn’t it? It’s an amazing thing; just take deep breaths and repeat in cycles of three.

The Triangle: What really makes someone’s confidence go down?

Dr. Corbin: Not being validated.

Everyone is entitled to their own feelings, we may disagree but just validating the right to feel the way they do helps.

The Triangle: If a friend comes up to you upset, what’s the first thing you should say to them?

Dr. Corbin: As a friend I would simply say, ‘Hey, what’s up?’.

Sometimes we are hesitant to ask because it’s uncomfortable and we think we may embarrass the other person. Above all, be willing to listen. Advice may be needed, but usually they just want (someone) to listen to them.

ecently formed, J.A.M., or Just About Me, offers students a place to belong and share their feelings. After reflecting on the recent student suicides and cyberbullying incidents occurring on social media pages, Choir Director Janie Gordon and some of her students were inspired by the movie “To Save a Life” to create this group.

“I gave them a place where they could come and feel comfortable,” Mrs. Gordon said.

“In all my choir classes, kids were just talking about issues they have in everyday life and what causes some of those issues to get out of control.”

J.A.M. started last year, but the organization process wasn’t very successful. However, this year Mrs. Gordon and her students officially started a school group. Anyone can participate.

Mrs. Gordon is even considering having J.A.M. gathering times during Bull Dog Time, where students can go there and talk if they’re not doing anything.

“Kids just like to come down here and talk and so I feel I can be a moderator, but we need to

It’s one of those situations where cyberbullying almost invades the privacy and security that you can get in your own home. People just kind of look at things that are mean on the Internet and they don’t really do anything about it. I feel like when you speak out, it gets to people better. I see more cyberbullying on Facebook than on Twitter. I see posts where people are literally putting people’s names on statuses and completely bullying them right there.

Everyone knows that 2012 is a leap year; but do you actually know why leap years exist in the first place?

According to howstuffworks.com, it takes more than 365 days for the Earth to orbit the sun; 365.2422 days, to be precise. To make up for this miscalculation, the approximately six extra hours each year add up to 24 hours over the course of four years, aka Feb. 29. A rule was put in place to account for the rest of the fraction, stating that there can only be 97 leap years over a span of 400 years.

Junior Katherine McAvoy works on a project in her eighth period Computer Programming 3 class

O

n Dec. 19 Junior Katherine McAvoy was informed that she had won the National Center for Women in Information Technology Aspirations in Computing Award. McAvoy has experience in the field of computer science, which helped her to prepare for the competition.

“I have taken three years of Computer Programming and last year I was a semi-finalist in the same competition,” McAvoy said.

Computer Programming teacher, Mike Spock, encouraged McAvoy to enter the competition.

“I told Katherine about the competition because she is the only girl in the class,” Mr. Spock said. “The competition was to highlight women in technical fields.”

The competition consisted of four essays, a checklist of different aspects in computer programming, and letters of recommendation from

McAvoy’s parents and Mr. Spock.

“I was given a list of aspects and I had to rate myself on how much knowledge I had on the topic. The four essay topics were my greatest achievement, how I show leadership, school, and community,” McAvoy said.

Even though McAvoy has had a lot of success in her Computer Programming, she is undecided of her future in the field.

“I will definitely take Computer Programming during my senior year, but I’m not sure if I will pursue it in college,” McAvoy said.

Despite the fact that McAvoy is currently involved in Computer Programming, she has not always been interested in it.

“I had never really thought about Computer Programming until seventh grade, when I programmed a simple VEX robot for a science fair project,” McAvoy said. “When I came

to high school, I saw that they had Computer Programming classes and I thought it would be fun.”

Although McAvoy does not plan on studying computer programming as a major, she would like to use it as an aid in another subject.

“If I continue Computer Programming in college, it will be something that can possibly go hand-in-hand with a different subject, like physics or chemistry,” McAvoy said.

Computer Programming classmate junior Patrick Angle believes that McAvoy would have a bright future in this career.

“Katherine most definitely has a future in the field of computer science,” Angle said. “She is very logical, as she always backs away from problems to look at the big picture.”

Jill Bosserman

S

ince her sophomore year, senior Jill Bosserman knew she would be at the top of her grade. This became a reality when Bosserman was told she was ranked fourth of the top ten seniors. Having a general idea of her standing beforehand changed Bosserman’s reaction to the news.

“It wasn’t as exciting as I anticipated, but it was still a great feeling,” Bosserman said.

Bosserman had another great feeling when she participated in the World Piano Competition at eight years old and received multiple rewards.

“I was awarded an honorable

mention,” Bosserman said. “I was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall and the United Nations headquarters in new York City, which was an incredible and nerve-wracking experience, even as an eight-year-old.”

Bosserman has progressed from concert performance to playing in the pit orchestra during the musicals. One of Bosserman’s favorite memories surrounds last year’s musical “Into the Woods”.

“I remembered how impressive the North musicals were to me when I was little, so it was a great feeling to become part of that tradition,” Bosserman said.

With hopes set on Purdue, Bosserman plans to continue her education in the medical field as a general practitioner and make an impression on the people she meets.

“I want to pursue a career in which I know I’m making a real, positive impact in other people’s lives,” Bosserman said. “I’m attracted to medicine because I really worry about the world and the problems in it. I hope that in the medical field, I can actually help better the world in a personal way.”

oars of the crowd and the scream of the final buzzer signaled the end of the holiday tournament. The Bull dogs triumphed after 15 years of losing this tournament. Senior Tyler Goodall was one of the men on the court to share this victory.

“It (winning) felt good. I was part of the first team to win in a long time,” Goodall said.

“I play in the pit orchestra for the musical every year, and it’s always really fun because you get to watch the musical over and over again,” Huang said.

Another memory was added to Huang’s time at North: securing

spot six of the top ten seniors. At first, Huang did not take interest in becoming one of the top seniors, but the competition soon caught on and the effort Huang put in definitely benefited her.

“It’s nice to be able to look back and see how my hard work has paid off,” Huang said. “During freshman year, I never thought ‘Oh, I really want to be in the top ten,’ but then ranks started coming out and everyone just got competitive. I guess I caught that competitive attitude after that,” Huang said.

Huang plans on going to IU and later becoming a pediatrician.

“I want to be a pediatrician. It’s never a boring job because kids are so energetic. I would love to spend all my days with kids,” Huang said.

Huang hopes to make a lasting impression on her students and peers and has great ambitions.

“I’m going into the sciences,” Huang said, “so it would be really rewarding if I made some sort of breakthrough while conducting research.”

With plans on going to IU and majoring in accounting, Goodall hopes to become an influence in other people’s lives like his grandfather was.

“I am a hard worker and I’m easy to get along with,” Goodall said. “I hope I can inspire someone.”

How North stands out: “North is more competitive than other schools I’ve played at. They really don’t like to lose. The coaches are great.”

His first game: “It was a shock; I didn’t think I would play as much as I did. When I got on the court I just did what I had to do to help the team win.”

Getting adjusted to the team: “It wasn’t really that hard. I just had to focus on the plays and my position and do what I had to do.”

What he enjoys most: “I like competing against schools that are better than us, that way we can show that we’re the underdog but we can upset anyone.”

What he thinks of Josh: “We bond together really well. We joke around a lot during practice. He does his thing, I do mine. We set each other up to score and help each other out.”

How North stands out: “I don’t really think I’ve played at this high of a level against people, so I think the competition is probably harder than what I’ve played against before.”

His first game: “It was nerve-wracking playing varsity for the first time as a freshman. I wasn’t really expecting to be on varsity, but I kind of already knew from summer ball. I didn’t expect that I would start.”

Getting adjusted to the team: “It wasn’t really that hard. We had a summer which really got us all acquainted.”

What he enjoys most: “The guys are awesome.

We’re really close friends and I really like Coach Speer. My teammates are great. They helped me come in as a freshman and didn’t make me feel different since they’d all been playing together for a while.”

What he thinks of Tori: “Tori is great. He’s a great addition to the team. He’s also a really good kid and he’s nice. He’s a great player, obviously he has lots of height, and he also can play well.”

LMFAO did a concert with thousands upon thousands. Senior Corey Gardner gave his opinion on the crowd at the concert.

“There were too many people,” Gardner said, “it got a little annoying.”

The mens basketball team played the Bloomington South Panthers and beat them 65-51, ending a 19 game losing streak against the panthers.

Gardner reflected on his experience in Super Bowl Village.

“The whole thing was really fun, especially the video,” Gardner said. “It was really funny.

The game was just a bigger stage, so I liked it more.”

Freshman Davin Mann went to the NFL experience on Friday, which costed 25 dollars.

“The NFL experience wan pretty cool.” Mann said. “It cost a lot but it was definitely worth it.”

ALMONDS - these nuts are great to eat when you’re hungry. Along with keeping you full, they are also great for your skin.

Lunges are a part of Chamber’s routine. “I think that it (recovering) is definitely keeping me in shape because my knee is super weak and even a little bit of exercise helps strengthen it, as well as getting the rest of my body back into the shape that it was in before (my knee injury).”

PEANUT BUTTER - a spoonful of peanut butter is great to add to crackers, rice cakes or even by itself.

A little can go a long way, and this little snack can be good when you need a boost.

BLUEBERRIES - they are the power fruit. Full of antioxidants, you’re doing your body a favor when you eat them. Stick a container in the freezer overnight, and eat them the next day.

BALANCING STICK - Put your arms over your head and lock your fingers.

Lean forward and lift your right leg up until it is parallel with the ground.

Hold this pose for one minute, and then switch to the other side. Do this twice on each leg.

TRIANGLE POSE - Stand with your legs wide and arms out in a shape like a T. Bend at your hip and touch your shin, then twist your torso to the right side and teach your right arm above your head. Hold this pose for 45 seconds, and do this twice on each side.

Wrestling Wrap

Junior Ezequiel Gomez shares his thoughts about this wrestling season

O

ur wrestling team hit the mats hard this season. Junior Ezequiel “Zeke” Gomez improved in numerous ways.

“I’ve improved in my conditioning and state of mind, as well as the way I prepare,” Gomez said. “I haven’t been satisfied with myself. If I lose once, it makes me want to get first even more. That’s how I have improved.”

Losing is a terrible thing, according to Gomez.

“To my team, the hardest part is practice,” Gomez said. “But to me, it’s losing.

There’s just something about losing. I don’t want to know that someone has prepared (more) than me.”

Gomez also has regrets about the season.

“I wish I could’ve gotten it together or started

getting it together earlier this season,” Gomez admits.

“But I made progress fast.”

Despite a few hardships, Gomez still loves the sport.

“I enjoyed it all,” Gomez said. “There’s nothing I didn’t enjoy, besides losing.

But everything else I did, and hopefully the season will last two more weeks, which is when State is. I want to go to State.”

Gomez is confident that next season will be as successful as this year.

“Next year, if the coach stays, we will be a team,” Gomez said. “We don’t have athletes; we have wrestlers.

The team will do well next year, because even though this is a team sport, each of the individuals make the team.”

Men’s Swimming Junior Sam Parker swims the breaststroke at the North versus East swim meet. The Bull Frogs hold a 10-4 record this season so far. Junior Sam Parker has high hopes for the team the rest of the year.

“I think the tournament will go well, and we’ll hopefully place high,” Parker said.

Sectional finals will be here tomorrow at 9 a.m.

Men’s Basketball Junior Paul Salee shoots for three points at the Feb. 4 game against East Central. The men have a 15-5 season with a five game winning streak.

Sectionals will be Feb. 28-Mar. 3. Be sure to come and support your fellow Bull Dogs.

Cheerleading Senior Mikah Rushalk gets the crowd pumped during the Lady Bull Dogs game against Jennings County on Feb. 2. The varsity cheerleaders saw the Lady Bull Dogs to their 18th win of the season. The cheerleaders will perform at the next Women’s Basketball game tomorrow at Bedford North Lawrence.

Pike talks about what it is like to have an unusual pet

“

I chose to get a pet snake because I think (snakes) are cute and really interesting. My parents and I went to Petco to get (the snake). At first, I wanted an iguana, but my mom told me I couldn’t because they get too big. Then I asked for a gecko. Finally, I randomly asked my dad for a snake. He told me I could because he thought my mom had already said yes. I asked my mom if I could get a Boa, but she said no because they get too big. So I chose to get a corn snake. My mom made me hold her (the snake) before she would buy one to make sure I was not afraid of her. Now I have had her for about four years and I love her like a best friend. She is pink and is about three feet long.

I think she is the cutest snake in the world. I have to give her a dead mouse every other week, clean her cage once a month and hold her every day.”

rowsing through my Netflix account, I noticed that Netflix had added one of my all-time favorite childhood shows, Rugrats. This made me wonder: what happened to the ‘good old days’ of TV? Back when Nickelodeon had game shows such as Legends of the Hidden Temple, Global Guts, Figure it Out, Slime Time Live; when The Mighty Ducks and Recess were on Disney. Back when you could visit a Nickelodeon Studio in Florida’s Universal Studios.

I surprisingly still remember

the themes of these TV shows and I can still recite the lyrics by heart; like Boy Meets World, for example.

In my opinion, the cast of All That was way better than the cast of SNL nowadays. I miss when kid shows and cartoons made at least a little bit of sense. Remembering the late 90s takes up 30 percent of my conversations.

TV shows are not the only thing I miss from this time period. Breakfast choices were much better than what we have

now. I miss the Oreo-O’s and Smorz cereal, and more than anything I miss Dinosaur egg oatmeal.

Re-watching Rugrats made my childhood all come back to me. It made me long for the 90s. Sadly, it also made me realize the hard truth that the past will never be the present.

All the past will be is, sadly, a memory.
