addox, Meyer & Clark. Sounds like the name of a law firm, but Columbus North baseball hopes that trio of right-handed pitchers can key the Bull Dogs to an outstanding season in 2019. “Collectively, they’re the strength of our team,” CN coach Ben McDaniel said of senior Parker Maddox, senior Jakob Meyer and junior Casper Clark. “That’s known not only around the city, but around the state. We can go to any of the three of them in any game and know they will get the job done.” Maddox, an Ohio University signee, was 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 41.0 innings last season. As a sophomore, he was 3-4 with a 3.57 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 53.0 innings. That came after a freshman season where he was 2-4 with 17 strikeouts in 24 innings. “Parker’s strength is his velocity and his competitive nature,” McDaniel said. “We’ve clocked him up to 92 (mph) in the off season, and he has consistently improved his velocity during his four years. He is in the weight room constantly and takes care of his body. He hates to lose. He wants the ball in every big game.” Meyer, signed to attend the University of Evansville, went 3-4 and posted a 1.85 earned-

run average and 61 strikeouts in 49.1 innings last season. As a sophomore, he had a 3-2 record with 36 strikeouts in 27.0 innings. “Jakob’s control and breaking ball are what separate him from most,” the coach said. “He can throw a breaking ball at any count and hit spots. His mental approach is excellent. He does not let things get to him. He’s always got a smile on his face. He’s always supporting his teammates. It takes a special individual to always have a positive attitude.” Clark, an Indiana University recruit, was 6-1 with a 1.49 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 47.0 innings last season. In 2017, Clark was 5-1 with two saves, a 0.87 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 32.0 innings. “Casper has a mix of both Parker and Jakob,” McDaniel said. “He’s competitive. He’s got a positive attitude. He wants to go get guys. Casper’s velocity has continued to climb, and he has a breaking ball that he can throw at any time. At 6-6, he has room to put on some additional mass and velocity. But he is a competitor, and he works. We’re reaping the benefit of the work he has put in over the past offseason.” Together, their mission this season is to keep opponents off the base paths and to prevent foes from getting all the way around. In baseball parlance, they are a trio of stoppers: Maddox, Meyer & Clark.
