Thomas, Williams and Rambo were ‘Principals for a Day’ at area school BY LEE STEPHENS ircuit Court Judge William Thomas, Federal Public Defender Kathleen Williams and Suree Rambo, Assistant Manager at Cool-de-Sac: Play Café in South Miami, spent October 21st as public school principals at South Miami Middle Community School through the “Principal for a Day” program. This program is designed to help community leaders better understand the complex role of the school principal and get perspective on the school system from within. Thomas, Williams and Rambo shadowed Dr. Lisa Robertson, Principal, throughout the day. Although they did not actually dish out discipline or establish the master schedule for the instructional program, they participated in a number of other activities including visiting classrooms, meeting with teachers and parents, making morning announcements, participating in a team meeting,

Customer service is key to success at Ace Home Center BY PAT FULTON

hink you know what a typical hardware store looks like? Dan Hitchcock’s Ace Home Center on Red Road in South Miami doesn’t even come close to that perception. A woman shopper who opens the front door will discover a place where she feels comfortable, rather than like a stranger in a “guy-oriented” shop. Just inside the front door, she will find the Home Design Center, with shelves of candles, table decorations and even party napkins.

BY AMY DONNER October 9 was the first SoMi ART WALK of the new season. John Edwards Smith of SoMi Magazine and the chairperson of the event, put together an inspired evening of art, friends, food and wine. Mark your calendar for the next ART WALK on November 13. SoMi Art Walk is a special event of the Red Sunset Merchants Association, (RSMASM.com). One of the things that is abundantly clear to me is that the best art is in our wonderful collection of stores everyday. The three newest members of the Red Sunset Merchants Association are great examples.

The male shopper is by no means a stranger at this Ace Home Center. He will feel at ease in multiple comfort zones — the Benjamin Moore paint center, the Kitchen and Bathroom Center (with spas, bathtubs and decorative hardware), not to mention the usual rows and rows of nuts, bolts and tools in the back area.
