he 6th Annual Holiday Shopping Spree For Kids was recently hosted by allCanes at 5831 Ponce DeLeon Boulevard in conjunction with the UM athletic department and NBC-6. Twenty five at-risk youths from the Hank Cline Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami were treated to a special day at the allCanes on-campus store. It began with a dinner and entertainment provided by Sebastian the UM Ibis, the UM Sunsations and Jenna Edwards, the reigning Miss Florida USA. Internationally acclaimed watercolor artist Dottie Greene (right) shared her talents and expertise with some of Miami’s most talented middle school artists when she was a Visiting Artist at South Miami K-8 Center recently. Marilyn Polin (fourth from left) heads the CAT Magnet (Computer Art Technology), where she presents her students with visiting artists in a variety of genres, including painting, architecture, photography and graphic design. Call them at 305-668-3331. The Red Sunset Merchants Association held its January luncheon at New Chinatown Restaurant. For starters, we were in a very nice area of the restaurant that holds 4050 very comfortably, away from the other patrons, and our guest speaker, Raphael Cruz from Florida Small Business Development Center (FSBDC), who spoke about marketing, was able to move about freely and didn’t need a microphone to share his ideas with us. Lots of locals were there, like: Tami Aizenstat from Elements of Time; Dennis Rodriquez with XOXO Care Cleaners; Veronica Flores who is the VP of the RSMA and is with the First National Bank of South Miami; Manny Fonseca, All Sports Training Center; Alein Cadalso and Claudia Marquez, with the Shops at Sunset Place; Norma
