A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Mar. 19 at Miami-Dade County’s new Branch Library in Palmetto Bay was a textbook example of how county and local governments work together to provide public services and amenities. Pictured (l-r) are Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor Brian W. Pariser; county manager George M. Burgess; Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn; Chris Himmel, South-Dade Office of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez; Village Councilmember Shelley Stanczyk; Miami-Dade Library System director Raymond Santiago; village council members Howard J. Kids get to kick a cop and it’s perfectly okay Members of the Palmetto Bay Village Policing Unit engaged Howard Drive Elementary School students during a dramatic, hands-on “dynamic simulation,” on the final day of a unique, new self-defense and safety class called “rad/KIDS” (resisting aggression defensively). This first-time offering was so popular, additional classes have been scheduled for April and beyond. The program also is being offered as a key component of the village’s summer camp program. For information on rad/KIDS, call Officer Friendly (Pete Judge, community outreach officer) at 305-476-5423. For information regarding summer camp, call Village Hall at 305-259-1234.
