Mount Sinai gains designation as a comprehensive stroke center Mount Sinai Medical Center has earned designation as a comprehensive stroke center, giving Aventura residents even more reason to choose the hospital's freestanding ER for their emergency care. Mount Sinai is the second hospital in Miami Dade County and one of only 16 in Florida to receive the designation, assuring that it follows national standards that can significantly improve the outcomes of the most complex stroke cases. "Because our freestanding ER is backed by the technology and medical expertise found only in a comprehensive stroke center, Aventura residents have access to the most advanced care available," said Dr. David Lang, Mount Sinai's chief of Emergency Medicine. Awarded by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the designation assures that Mount Sinai has system-wide initiatives on stroke prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, community awareness, and research. "This designation represents the culmination of two years of efforts to develop the staffing and technological infrastructure necessary to diagnose and treat stroke patients within minutes of their admission," said Steven D. Sonenreich, president and chief executive officer. The American Stroke Association estimates that approximately 795,000 Americans suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
