Director's notes Once again, Time spins the World’s spherical stage, where the Elements plays their parts anew. Thus begins the opera. Galaxies turn once more and harmony returns, nature cycles, night precedes day. Dawn dusts off its old garments and clothes itself ceremoniously before an audience so that it can once again perform its role and draw the curtain on the night once more to announce the coming of the Sun. Finally, the Sun appears, a dancer who glitters like gold and invites the Elements to dance whilst the room is flooded with its light. The festival comes to its grand finale. The final image freezes. Is all of this still possible? As a final note, the staging honours this opera’s character as it was designed to be performed: in an aristocratic parlour and not in a theatre. For this reason, the scenography alludes to classical interior design and architecture, Furthermore, the orchestra is not hidden from the public. It remains visible on stage such that we can admire the mix of Italian and distinctively Spanish instruments like the castanets and the guitar.
