Through a partnership with Liberty Mutual Insurance, a universally designed playground has been constructed to provide inclusive play for those of all abilities. Windhaven Meadows Park has more than 20,000 square feet of dedicated accessible play area that exceeds ADA requirements. The playground features 40 percent sensory play activities and 60 percent physical play structures built on synthetic turf. Equipment focuses on the six elements of play: social, emotional, physical, sensory, cognitive, and communication. The all-abilities playground is the second of its kind in Plano, joining Jack Carter Park in providing activities for children with special needs. Also at Windhaven Meadows Park is a 4.6acre, irrigated dog park with large and small dog paddocks, a popular destination for pet owners. The area features fencing, concrete pathways, shade structures, seating areas, drinking stations, rinse stations, and pet waste and litter receptacles. “Parks help us build community,” says Israelson.
