Como numa exposição o que é importante é ver, deixo apenas algumas palavras escritas de estímulo, de agradecimento e de saudação.

A primeira delas dirijo aos seis jovens artistas macaenses, todos eles vencedores do Prémio Fundação Oriente, todos eles portadores de uma cultura única, que permitiu o encontro entre o Oriente e o Ocidente. A todos eles deixo uma palavra de estímulo para continuarem a dar o melhor de si às Artes e ao Mundo.

Saúdo esta exposição porque ela dá-nos uma imagem da influência portuguesa no Oriente e das preocupações das novas gerações de macaenses com a preservação dessa herança cultural, em espaços tão diversos como as famílias, as ruas e as paisagens de Macau.

Deixo uma palavra de agradecimento à Fundação Oriente que, com enorme generosidade, garante os laços culturais entre Macau e Portugal e permite novos encontros entre portugueses e macaenses.

Estou certo que os montijenses acolherão esta exposição com um interesse que reforce a amizade entre as nossas cidades.

Em 2010, surgiu o conceito da criação de um evento anual que tivesse como principal objectivo encorajar os artistas e desenvolver as artes plásticas em Macau, um momento que servisse como plataforma para os jovens artistas macaenses poderem mostrar a sua arte ao público em geral e para que este pudesse conhecer e apreciar a criatividade e as tendências artísticas aqui presentes. E assim é lançado o I Salão de Outono, organizado pela Delegação de Macau da Fundação Oriente e a associação Art for All, que reuniu pintores conhecidos, mas principalmente jovens artistas como Lai Sio Kit, Sylvie Lai, Karen Yung Lai Jing, entre muitos outros.

Esta iniciativa foi também responsável pela ideia da criação do Prémio Fundação Oriente para as Artes Plásticas instituído pela Fundação Oriente, em 2012, com o objectivo de reconhecer e apoiar jovens artistas plásticos de Macau, em início de carreira, dando-lhes a oportunidade de exporem o seu trabalho em Macau e ainda de desenvolverem as suas qualidades artísticas em Portugal. O prémio destina-se a apoiar uma residência artística do vencedor, em Portugal, durante um mês, a fim de conhecer artistas e trabalhar junto de instituições artísticas públicas ou privadas. Até hoje, já rumaram a Portugal os artistas Lai Sio Kit, Erik Fok, Lai Sut Weng, Karen Yung Lai Jing e Sylvie Lai (o próximo será Tang Kuok Hou) onde, com o apoio incondicional da Anabela Antunes e do Pedro Reigadas, lhes foi dada a possibilidade de realizar uma exposição individual na Galeria Arte Periférica, no Centro Cultural de Belém. A residência artística propiciou-lhes uma interacção enriquecedora com artistas plásticos portugueses e contribuiu, de forma significativa, para o seu processo criativo. Estamos seguros de que esta experiência serviu de inspiração para novos trabalhos e promoveu a sua evolução artística, que se observa nas novas tendências dos trabalhos destes artistas, testemunhando o aperfeiçoamento da sua obra.

A iniciativa continuará na busca da novidade, do vanguardismo, do aperfeiçoamento, da qualidade, apoiando sempre os artistas, com o desígnio final de valorizar a criação artística contemporânea. Quem sabe se entre estes jovens criadores não estarão grandes talentos que virão, um dia, a fazer parte do grupo dos mais prestigiados artistas do mundo.

Fica um agradecimento muito especial à Anabela Antunes e ao Pedro Reigadas pela dedicação e empenho particulares que têm dado a este projecto, sem os quais a iniciativa nunca teria o sucesso que tem tido.

Eric Fok Nascido em Macau, em 1990. Vive e trabalha em Macau. É um jovem artista extraordinário, reconhecido pelos seus trabalhos a caneta técnica sobre papel envelhecido com chá para integrar reproduções de mapas antigos com novas construções. As obras são o resultado do seu conhecimento da história mundial, da imaginação do artista, das suas fantasias e lendas e de uma observação cuidadosa dos mapas da cidade.

Foi selecionado para a 50.ª Exposição de Ilustradores de Bolonha (Itália e Japão), para a Art Nova 100 na China e, para a Art Revolution Taipei 2014, tendo sido o vencedor do Prémio Fundação Oriente/ Artes Plásticas em 2013. Tem exposto o seu trabalho um pouco em todo o mundo, incluindo Nova Iorque, Itália, Portugal, Japão, Singapura, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan e Macau. A sua primeira exposição individual na Europa decorreu na Galeria Arte Periférica e participou em diversas exposições coletivas, nomeadamente no Museu do Oriente, em Lisboa, e esteve presente no Affordable Art Fair, em Nova Iorque, em 2013.

Está representado nas coleções do Governo da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau, do Bureau de Assuntos Culturais de Macau, da Fundação Oriente de Macau e em diversas colecções privadas em Las Vegas, Itália, Reino Unido, Singapura, Portugal, Espanha, Hong Kong e Macau.

Eric Fok is an extraordinaire young artist recognized for his work with technical pen and paper that is aged using tea to integrate ancient maps reproductions with new constructions. The works are a beautiful conglomeration of knowledge of world history, the artist’s imagination, fantasies, ancient maps and legends and careful observation of city maps.

His works have been selected by The 50th Bologna Illustrators Exhibition, Art Nova 100 of China, Art Revolution Taipei 2014, and he was the winner of the 2nd Fundação Oriente Art Award, 2013. Exhibited across the globe including New York, Italy, Portugal, Japan, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao. Fok made his first solo exibhition in Europe in Arte Periférica Gallery and has participated in group exhibitions including The 50th Bologna Illustrators exhibition (Italy and Japan), FEBRE (Museu do Oriente, Lisboa - Portugal), and Affordable Art Fair New York 2013.

Fok’s works are being collected by Macao SAR Government Headquarter, Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macao Orient Foundation and other private collectors from Las Vegas, Italy, U.K., Singapore, Portugal, Spain, Hong Kong and Macao.

Karen Yung Nascida em Hong Kong, concluiu a sua licenciatura em Inglês e o mestrado em Pintura Ocidental na National Taiwan University. Participou em diversas exposições em Macau e Taiwan, tendo o seu trabalho sido incluído em “Group Exhibition of School of Arts in National Taiwan Normal University “(2013), “Romance – Group Exhibition of master’s degree in National Taiwan Normal University” (2012) e “Form and Color – Exposição do Museu de Arte de Macau”. Expõe individual e coletivamente desde 2012 e foi vencedora do Prémio da Fundação Oriente em 2015.

Born in Hong Kong, she completed a bachelor’s degree in English, and a master’s degree in western painting in the National Taiwan Normal University. She participated in many group exhibitions in Macau and Taiwan. For example, her works were included in the “Group Exhibition of School of Arts in National Taiwan Normal University” (2013), “Romance – Group Exhibition of master’s degree in National Taiwan Normal University” (2012) and “Form and Color – Exhibition of the Members in Macau Art Museum”. Art award: Oriente Foundation 2015.

Lai Sio Kit Lai Sio Kit, nascido em Macau em 1983, licenciou-se em 2006 e concluiu o mestrado em 2009 na Academia Central de Belas Artes de Pequim. Professor da Faculdade de Humanidades e Letras, da Universidade de Ciência e Tecnologia de Macau. Diretor Conselheiro na Art for All Society e Mentor na Art Square of Macau, Museum of Art. Tem exposto o seu trabalho em Portugal, Singapura, Coreia , EUA e por toda a China.

As pinturas de Lai Sio Kit são famosas por retratarem perspetivas aéreas de plantas, vasos de flores e telhados de edifícios. “O pincel suave e as cores silenciadas de suas pinturas encarnam a lembrança do artista pela história de Macau. Os telhados dos edifícios antigos são a sua fonte criativa. As plantas em vaso e outros objetos diversos nos jardins do telhado são pressionados ao serviço do ponto, linha e avião, revelando o rigoroso controle do artista sobre a pintura“.

Lai Sio Kit born in Macau in 1983, received his Bachelor’s in 2006 and Master’s degrees in 2009 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Lecturer of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, in Macau University of Science and Technology. Council Director Art for All Society and Tutor for Art Square of Macau Museum of Art. Lai has held exhibitions in Portugal, Singapore, Korea, the USA and across China, and his works have been collected by The paintings of Lai Sio Kit are famous for depicting aerial perspectives of plants, flowerpots and the roofs of buildings. “The soft brushwork and muted colors of his paintings embody the artist’s longing reminiscence for the history of Macau. The rooftops of the ancient buildings are his creative wellspring. The potted plants and other miscellaneous objects on the rooftop gardens are all pressed into the service of point, line and plane, revealing the artist’s exacting control of the painting”.

Lai Sut Weng As coisas que eu pinto são sobretudo vistas de ruas e os arredores do lugar onde nasci e fui criada. As minhas pinturas retratam a aparência desta pequena cidade, explorando também a sua constante mudança. Diante das minhas pinturas, vemos sempre algumas antigas instalações abandonadas, esquecidas no tempo, mas preservando, contudo, vagos vestígios de vida dos seus antigos habitantes.

Estes edifícios esquecidos foram em tempos uma componente da história e ainda refletem alguns elementos culturais importantes, os quais devem ser mantidos e recordados. A aparência das minhas pinturas denota um difuso aglomerado de prédios. Vistos de longe, conseguimo-nos aperceber dos cenários. Mas à medida que nos aproximamos, vemos as coisas ficarem desfocadas em blocos de diferentes tons e cores. A imprecisão, ambiguidade e falta de definição criados aqui, desta forma, representam a indiferença e a ignorância das pessoas perante o seu meio ambiente - e, principalmente, a sua própria cultura. Nesta sociedade em ritmo acelerado, os edifícios e as histórias estão a ser demolidos em detrimento do desenvolvimento económico. Na realidade, os edifícios e os cenários urbanos genuinamente típicos devem ser mantidos e não devem ser esquecidos, uma vez que põem em evidência a existência de Macau. Ao pintar estas paisagens em desvanecimento, espero registar os vestígios da história e, ao mesmo tempo, permitir que estas se tornem mais conhecidas para as pessoas, que poderão assim revisitar aquilo que já esqueceram.

The things I paint are mainly street views and the surroundings of the place where I was born and raised. My paintings portray the appearance of this small town, also exploring its constant change. In the face of my paintings, we always see some old abandoned installations, forgotten in time, but still preserving vague traces of the life of their former inhabitants. These forgotten buildings were once a component of history and still reflect some important cultural elements, which must be kept and remembered. The appearance of my paintings denotes a diffused clump of buildings. Seen from a distance, we were able to see the scenarios. But as we get closer, we see things blurring in blocks of different shades and colors.

The imprecision, ambiguity and lack of definition created here, in this way, represents the indifference and ignorance of people towards their environment - and especially their own culture. In this fast-paced society, buildings and stories are being demolished to the detriment of economic development. In fact, genuine buildings and urban settings should be maintained and should not be overlooked as they highlight the existence of Macao. By painting these fading landscapes, I hope to record the traces of history and, at the same time, to allow them to become better known to people, who can thus revisit what they have forgotten.

Sylviye Lei Nasceu em 1986, em Macau.

Sylviye Lei concluiu o Mestrado na Academia de Belas Artes de Guangzhou (China), no ano de 2012. Com uma paleta de cores muito etérea, apresenta pinturas minimalistas abstratas e geométricas que se relacionam com a natureza problemática da realidade virtual num contexto social contemporâneo.

Tem exposto os seus trabalhos quer em exposições individuais, quer em exposições coletivas, desde 2008, destacando aqui as efetuadas em 2017, a “Dimensional Sequence” na Galeria Arte Periférica e “Soft Collision” na Galeria Ann Hoi em Hong Kong, tendo participado no Young Art Taipei em 2015, entre outros.

O trabalho de Sylviye foi galardoado com o Prémio da Fundação Oriente/ Artes Plásticas em 2016. Está entre os finalistas do Rise Art Prize 2018, competição ao nível global instituída no Reino Unido, que visa destacar artistas no âmbito da arte contemporânea.

He was born in 1986 in Macau. Sylvie Lei graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Guangzhou (China) in 2012. With a very ethereal color palette, he presents minimalist abstract and geometric paintings that relate to the problematic nature of virtual reality in a contemporary social context.

He has exhibited his work both in individual exhibitions and in collective exhibitions since 2008, highlighting the works carried out in 2017, the “Dimensional Sequence” at Arte Periférica Gallery and “Soft Collision” at the Ann Hoi Gallery in Hong Kong. Young Art Taipei in 2015, among others. Sylvie’s work was awarded the Art award/ Oriente Foundation in 2016. He is among the finalists of the Rise of the Year 2018, a global competition established in the United Kingdom to highlight artists in contemporary art.

Tang Kuok Hou Nasceu em Macau em 1989. Licenciado em Sociologia pela Universidade de Macau, Tang Kuok Hou é fundador do coletivo de fotografia “Dialect”.

O artista participou em mais de quatro dezenas de exposições em Macau e no estrangeiro, tendo já apresentado o seu trabalho em duas mostras individuais.

Aborda temas como a identidade, o tempo, a memória e a cultura local, explorando, através da paisagem artificial, a interconexão entre a urbanidade, a paisagem e a existência humana versus natureza, bem como os seus respetivos significados.

Os trabalhos de Tang Kuok Hou integram coleções de várias instituições locais, como a Universidade de Macau, a Fundação Oriente, a Creative Macau e o Museu de Arte de Macau.

Vencedor do Prémio Fundação Oriente/Artes Plásticas em 2017.

Born in Macau, in 1989, with a BA in Sociology from the University of Macau, Tang is founders of the Macau photo collective - “Dialect”. He has participated in more than 40 arts exhibitions in Macao and overseas besides two solo shows. He takes on such themes as identity, time, memory and local culture to explore, through man-made landscape, the interconnection among urbanites, landscapes and human existence versus Nature, as well as their respective meaning. His works were collected by collector, local organizations, University of Macau, Orient Foundation, Creative Macau – Center for Creative Industries and Macau Museum of Art. His photobook “LINE” is now in the collections of the Centre George Pompidou and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia libraries.
