United in Support: A Guide to Giving to MPFS

Page 1

Since 1876, MediaProvidence Friends School has nurtured creativity, curiosity, and joy in learning. Our Quaker values guide our innovative approach, preparing students for global citizenship. As an independent school, we rely on community support to provide exceptional education and secure our future. Together, we ensure MPFS remains a thriving haven for generations of students.

Ways You Can

As a nonprofit, MPFS relies on donations to bridge the gap between tuition and operating costs. Tuition covers about 70% of a student's education, with donor support essential for financial aid, maintenance, salaries, and equipment. Your philanthropic support ensures high-quality, accessible education for all students.

At MPFS, students engage in a comprehensive educational experience that includes math, science, humanities, language arts, Spanish, social studies, technology, music, service learning, sports, and the arts. This holistic approach, though costly, is fundamental to our identity and mission.

Three main ways to support MPFS:

• Annual MPFS Fund: Direct contributions that impact students' daily lives and invest in the school's future.

• Friends Collaborative Tax Credit Program: This program offers a 90% tax credit for donations, making every contribution more impactful.

• Planned Giving: Long-term support options for the school's future.

Your generosity helps maintain our exceptional educational experience and ensures MPFS remains accessible to all students.

Support MPFS

THE ANNUAL MPFS FUND

The annual MPFS Fund is the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts and an essential, collective community effort. Regardless of size, your support is deeply appreciated and demonstrates your commitment to our mission. Our diverse community of alumni, parents, grandparents, Meeting members, faculty, and staff come together annually to support this vital fund, ensuring MPFS continues to provide exceptional education. Your contribution, no matter the amount, is a significant part of this collective effort and makes a real difference in our students' lives. Together, we can make a difference. mpfs.org/give

THE FRIENDS COLLABORATIVE (TFC)

The TFC Tax Credit Program is a vital initiative that allows PA individuals and businesses to support MPFS through state tax dollars. By participating, donors can direct their PA state tax liability to MPFS, receiving a 90% tax credit in return. This program is a cost-effective way to substantially impact the MPFS community, ensuring that a Friends education is accessible to families from diverse backgrounds. At MPFS, we are committed to diversity; your support helps us uphold this commitment. mpfs.org/tfc

PLANNED GIVING

Remembering MPFS in your will or estate plan ensures your legacy while securing the School’s future. Your planned gift helps sustain our vision for future generations of students and teachers. There are various planned gifts, all of which offer significant tax benefits to the donor. mpfs.org/plannedgiving

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does MPFS need an Annual Fund? Why not just raise the tuition?

As with all independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the total cost of educating each student at MPFS. The annual MPFS Fund helps balance the budget and supports socio-economic diversity. Tuition is kept below the actual cost to make education more affordable and to provide a tax-deductible giving opportunity.

What is the best way to give to MPFS? Can I support a specific initiative?

When possible, we encourage donors to consider supporting MPFS through both the MPFS Fund and The Friends Collaborative (TFC) tax credit program for maximum impact. A gift to the MPFS Fund is crucial as it provides unrestricted support, allowing the school to allocate funds where they are needed most. Participating in the TFC tax credit program will enable you to make a substantial gift at a lower personal cost and provide essential funding for financial aid.

Can my employer match my gift?

You may be able to increase the impact of your gift to MPFS. Check with your employer for more information. mpfs.org/match

Who is asked to give to the MPFS Fund?

Everyone! The MPFS Fund is a collective community effort. Every year, all community members - faculty and staff, parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, trustees, and f(F)riends - are asked to participate.

I cannot afford a large donation. Is my contribution even worth it?

Yes! Every gift, no matter the size, has a real impact. Your participation is a voice of support and confidence. High MPFS Fund participation is a testament to our community’s belief in our mission and enables us to apply for outside funding opportunities from foundations.

When is the best time of year to make a gift to the MPFS Fund?

Our fundraising year runs from July 1 through June 30. Gifts and pledges received before the end of the calendar year (December 31) allow the School to plan and budget more effectively and inspire others to give.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. MPFS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and gifts to MPFS are tax deductible as allowable by law. Please consult your tax advisor with specific questions.

Do you host events to fundraise? Who can attend?

Yes. We host an annual event fundraiser, and all adults can attend! mpfs.org/auction

What forms of payment do you take? Do you do recurring gifts?
