HAVE you ever considered what the effect might be on our savings and investments (or even our home), if the probability arises of us requiring residential care later in life? 26,000-signature cider petition presented to ‘No. 10’ THANKS to 26,000 members and cider-lovers, CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) presented a petition to 10, Downing Street, calling upon the Government to act on the threat to the UK’s small cider-producers on Wednesday, June 10th. The petition responds to a move by the European Union (EU), which could remove the current tax-exemption for small cider-makers. This exoneration applies predominantly to hobbyists and farm-gate producers, who make fewer than 70HL of cider a year (or around 33 pints per day).

The chord workshop is aimed, primarily, at players wishing to develop their use of chords on the treble keyboard.
“The main input will be fromPaul Hobbs, and I shall be working with him on the presentation of the material.
Of necessity, it will encompass the Stradella keyboard, and it will also cover areas which are not chord-related, such as enhancing pieces by including introductions, bridges from one piece

Anticipation. It sounds simple and it is. True, it is easy switch off while you’re riding, especially when the roads are a little quieter - always keep an eye out for the expected. 2. Watch your speed. We’re not talking about crawling at five miles an hour, where would the fun be in that? Just make sure that you ride at a speed which gives you enough time to react (especially when it’s wet, foggy or icy!). 3. Positioning: when you’re on the roads, it is crucial that you are seen at all times; accordingly, position yourself in the middle of the lane so that cars can see you.
5. Be seen: even in good light, dipped headlights can help you to get spotted (if your bike was built or sold after 2002, you will have dipped headlights, so check that your bike does, too). The better your riding-skills, the better chance you have of avoiding an accident. Give your bike the love it deserves, and it will help you to stay safe on the roads. Spending your weekends polishing and cleaning your bike to within an inch of its life may be a boring chore, but, if you look after your bike, it really will look after you! 4. Overtaking: it’s one of the most satisfying things that you can do on your bike, especially in heavy traffic, but make sure that you always look over your shoulder to see what people are doing behind you. Avoid overtaking on bends or near junctions, and obey the road-markings.

Cars’ ‘double tax’ clobbers drivers
MOTORISTS are suffering from the ‘double taxing’ of cars for the month they change hands under new regulations accompanying the scrapping of the need to show tax-discs on windscreens, warns the Automobile Association. The ‘double tax’ is providing the Government with an estimated £38 million windfall, according to the AA. Since October, car-owners have not been required to display their vehicle excise-duty (VED) car tax-discs on their windscreens, with
the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) logging tax-details electronically. Under the new regime, a car tax is automatically cancelled when a vehicle changes hands. The previous owner can reclaim tax only for full months (not part ones), with the new owner required to tax the car immediately. The AA claims that it has heard of cases where a car was transformed from one member of the family to another, but the family were shocked to find that VED was not refunded for that month, and, yet, the new owner had to purchase VED for the full month.

Commented a DVLA spokesman: “Ending vehicle tax at the point-of-sale is a consumer-protection measure to prevent used-car buyers unknowingly buying or keeping an untaxed vehicle which they believe to be taxed.
“Automobile Association members have contacted us, expressing outrage that their apparently-taxed car was not taxed, despite it having a valid disc on display.
“Previously, two-thirds of all used vehicles were sold without tax, so it is no different for the majority of motorists.
