The Court may reject your family’s application and instead appoint a Local Deputy (a local solicitor) who will take over all of your finances. From your estate, the Deputy will deduct all court fees as well as his own fees and expenses, which in some cases has been known to run into £1000's

8 Get ready for the ride of your life, as the ultimate party, ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’: The Musical’ returns to Hanley’s Regent Theatre from Monday, September 21st, to Saturday, September 26th, owing to overwhelming, popular demand. The show stars boyband, Blue’s, Duncan James. Based on the smash-hit movie, the feel-good, international sensation, ‘Priscilla’ is the heart-warming, uplifting adventure of three friends hop aboard a battered, old bus, searching for love and friendship, and end up finding more than they could have ever dreamed of! This wildly fresh and funny musical features a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and a hit-parade of dancefloor classics. 10 There can be no more uplifting sight than watching the likes of the Red Arrows painting intricate patterns in the sky above Blackpool Promenade, or seeing a Typhoon fighter jet streak across the horizon at over 450 kph. That’s all part of the thrill of the breathtaking Blackpool Air Show - a free event taking place over two days (August 9th-10th), and featuring some of the most spectacular aerial displays in the country. Incredibly, 2015 will see the 106th annual air show in Blackpool, making it one of the longest-running events in the world and giving it good reason to make it better than ever! 32 As temperatures drop and the nights draw in, it’s great to get out and active in the Autumn, but there are some factors that still need to be considered to keep our pets fit and well. With this in mind, Newcastle-based Croft Veterinary Clinic has drawn up a few, topical tips. Harvest mites are a problem in late-Summer and Autumn. These very seasonal parasites are picked up in woodland and long grasses, and swarm onto passing pets, where they tend to congregate on the ears, eyelids, feet and the underside of the abdomen. They are identified as tiny, bright, orange dots, adhering tightly to the skin, and are usually a cause of great irritation, with itchy, crusting lesions developing. Ticks are particularly active during the Autumn months, living in long grass and woodland areas. They clamber onto passing pets, firmly attaching themselves and feeding on their blood. Worse still, they can also spread a range of infectious diseases, such as Lyme disease and Babesiois. 04| August 2015

Do YOU need a specialist Will? HAVE you ever considered what the effect might be on our savings and investments (or even our home), if the probability arises of us requiring residential care later in life? If not, you are in the majority; however, consider that it has become increasingly apparent that the State will only provide for those with little or no savings or assets, meaning that everyone else is expected to pay at least part (if not all) of his or her costs. Even if you don’t have the cash readily available, the Department of Social Security can still place a charge against the family home, which enables it to recover the monies owing, when the property is sold! But there is a solution - Property Trust Wills. A ‘Property Trust’ is based around three, basic elements: the basis on which you own your property; the Trust terms; and your Wills, which contain the Trust investment. The Property Trust can only be created while both
partners remain alive, and the property must be owned as Tenants in Common (the Trust instrument is, then, included in both Wills, but does not come into force until the death of the first). Upon the first death, their share of the property (typically 50%) is placed into the Trust to be adminstered by the Trustees nominated in the Will, and this, usually, includes the surviving spouse. The Will also specifies who is to be the ultimate beneficiary of this share in the property, and the Trustee’s duty is to protect the property for the beneficiaries’ benefit. The surviving spouse, under the Trust’s terms, has the right to remain living in the property for the rest of his or her life; on the death of the second spouse, the Trust comes to an end, and the property passes absolutely to the beneficiaries. THRIVING Stoke-on-Trent venue, Smallthorne Victory Club, is busy not only raising cash for charities; it’s also investing money in a number of enhancements to its Hanley Road premises! Recently, the club realised £300 for the North Staffs. branch of the Alzheimer’s Association via a series of fund-raising raffles. “We are in the process ofspending about £30,000 this year, including 15,000 on improvements to the ladies’ toilet at the front of the building; creating a new kitchen for the Steward’s accommodation and upgrading its roof,” said Club Secretary, Ian Machin. “Also, a new ceiling, complete with energy-saving lighting, for the Concert Room, is on the cards, as this club is still flourishing.

Autumn hazards!! AS temperatures drop and the nights draw in, it’s great to get out and active in the Autumn, but there are some factors that still need to be considered to keep our pets fit and well. With this in mind, The Croft Veterinary Clinic, Newcastle, has a few, topical tips: Harvest mites are a problem in late-Summer and Autumn. These very seasonal parasites are picked up in woodland and long grasses, and swarm onto passing pets where they tend to congregate on the ears, eyelids, feet and the underside of the abdomen. They are identified as tiny, bright orange dots
adhering tightly to the skin, and are virtually a cause of great irritation with itchy, crusting lesions developing. Ticks are particularly active in the Autumn months, living in long grass and woodland areas; they clamber onto passing pets, firmly attaching themselves and feeding on their blood. Worse still, they can also spread a range of infectious diseases, such as Lyme disease and Babesiois. Fleas are more of a year-round problem, and, unlike the parasites mentioned above, fleas love central-heating, and will make
