MynameisChristina.I createvibrant, functional designs.Mybackground isin landscapearchitecture, whereI focusedon design in engineeringand marketing. My backgroundin architecturegivesmean understandingfor theform and function of art, which providesauniqueperspectivein the worldof graphicdesign.Mypassionistheoverlapof art andpeople.More specifically, I am fascinated by how peopleinteract with art, and how art influencespeople.
I began my journey working for the Georgia Museum of Art as a sales associatein thegift shop. I doubled asafront desk and an expert on the rotatingexhibits. Thisinspired meto makedesignson my own. I moved on toagraphicdesign internshipat thenonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity. Once my contract ended, I entered another contract design position at theCenter for theEcologyof InfectiousDiseases, adiseaseand parasitism research facility at theUniversity of Georgia. I worked briefly as an artist for Uber Prints, editing and creating shirt print designs for individual customers. The City of Winder reached out to mewith their position for a temporary in-house graphic designer until they could establish their new marketing director. After that opportunity ended, I began working for Metro Market Media as a copy editor for The Gainesville Times, Forsyth County News, and Dawson County News. I wasoffered anew opportunity to work at astartup called GardenUPto elevatetheir social mediaandmarketingpresence, managetheir blog, and creategarden designsfor their product.Throughout thistimeI havebeen freelancingasan artist andtakingcommissionsfor personal pieces.
Mywork experiencehasgiven meskillsin classical art, modern art, social mediamarketing, email marketing, print advertisement, press, magazines, internal documents, cookbooks, instructional manuals, and more. I have an insatiable appetite for learning new skills and always seek out challengesfor myself, whether professionallyor in myfreetime.I hopeto continuelearningnew methodsandprogramsasI progressinmycareer.
TheRidgeisaproposed resort in theNorth Georgiamountains. It'spowered by asmall solar farm, with generators acting as back-up power. The cabins circle around a shared green space. The large building acts asafoodhall andhasspacefor meetingsand gatherings.
This project was created in 2021 for an advancedgraphicscourse.Thelandwasfirst graded and roadslaid out in AutoCAD. The CAD map was imported into SketchUp to createa3D object and add assets. Then the project was moved to Lumion, a rendering software, to render lighting and texture. Lastly, imagesweretaken from Lumion and uploaded into Photoshop to add finishing details.
Swathmore Drive is a small plot of land on a steeply sloping site, with massive drainage and water damage issueson theback end of thehouse. The driveway was uncomfortably steep, and an existing pool sat at an odd angle to the house. The client wanted an additional carriagehouse, a safer driveway, a fixed drainage plan, and outdoor recreation space. I used various circles to resolve the odd angles and used the pavement for patio space to move water away from thehouses. I also recreated the driveway to have a gentler slope climbingup.
Thisproject wascreated in 2019 for aresidential design class. Theplot of land was drafted and graded in AutoCAD, then brought into Photoshopfor rendering.
Athens Connect is a project to remedy the dangerousLumpkin-Baxter intersection. The intersection frequently becomesflooded with pedestrians crossing in all directions. My proposal includes a pedestrian bridge that connects all three corners and the second floor of the Bolton dining commons. The bridge is wheelchair accessible, with space underneath for bussesto passsafely through. Adjacent tothisisan updatedMiller Learning Center plazawithoutdoor learningspace.
The project was created in 2020. I used city GISmapsto import into AutoCAD, where I draftedout thesiteandcalculatedthebridge.I thentook it intoPhotoshopfor rendering.
The Athens Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit that buildshomesfor peoplein need. They own two thrift stores fed by donations in order to fund their mission. I was tasked with creating advertisements for the Habitat ReStore thrift store to be printed in The Red and Black newspaper andtobecirculatedonline.
TheCity of Winder brought meon boardin themiddleof trying to advertisefor their Halloween event, "Spooktacular". Theevent hadlittletonoguidance, andtheCityhadnobrandingguidelines togooff of.I createdadvertisements, social mediaposts, mapsfor vendors, andanyevent merchandisetheyneeded.
I continued my work on through thenext events. Thisincluded the"Around-the-World" Christmasparadeand after party, New Year'sparty, andthebrandnew First Fridayevent series.I created sponsorship banners and social media posts, event banners, postcards, andall other necessaryassets.
After I handed off theseprojects, thesecond graphicdesigner has beenabletousemywork tocontinueadvertisement.
TheWinder PoliceDepartment recruitment campaign wasthe first advertisingcampaign that I hadahandin fullylaunching.I workedcloselywith photographersandpoliceofficersin order tocreatethedesiredlook.Thiswasamonumental challengeas not onlythebiggest campaign thecitygovernment hadpushed, but alsoasthebiggest cross-department collaboration for social mediaat thetime.
My brand-related work with the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases was primarily wrapped up in the annual report to go to the University of Georgia. This report gave statistics, research updates, and research articles from the contributing scientists. The publication had to loosely follow University of Georgiabrand guidelines, but stand out enough asitsown research entity. Theendresult wasamagazine-style report.
During my contract term, I created and finished theFY 2021 report, and created the outline for the FY 2022 report. Both canbeaccessedinfull ontheUGA CEID website.
When I came onto the City of Winder's brandnew creativeteam,I wasgiven thetask of discovering the brand's identity. I used existing material to create a branding guide, then rewroteall internal documentstomatch the City's formal and (separate) tourism brands. I built the foundationsfor theCity's advertising and identity for years to come. This branding work extended across government, customer service, utilities, events, Police, and Fire Department. I also recoveredandrestoredmanylogos, seals, and fontsthat hadn't beendocumentedor stored.
Outside of internal documentation, much of my brand-related work went into social mediaredesignsandcampaigns.
Myillustrationsareprimarily portraitureand character commissions. I havemadeportraits for anniversaries, holidays, and celebrations. My character commissions are stand-alone references, popular among people playing tabletop gameslikeDungeonsandDragons. , holidays, and commemorativecelebrations. I love to play with different styles of line art and shading, depending on what the client specificallywants.
Pieces I consider full art include digital paintings and more detailed illustrations. These are works I put more thought and effort into the composition of. WhileI play with lineand shapein my illustrations, I liketoexperiment withlight andtextureinmyfull art pieces.
'F(i)sh' isaplayon thejoke, "What doyou call afish with noeyes?A fsh," which then became"What doyoucall afishwithoneeye?A fish, andjust that."
'Fur-fly' is a play on motion I made while watching foxes run and jump. I blurred the motions together until I got abouncy, winding, playful path. I tried to capturethewhimsy using swirling linesandsplattersof paint.
'Student' isadigital paintingof agame,Sky:Children of theLight.Thiswasagift for afriendwho sent meascreenshot of their charactersin-game. Light and composition wereheavy focusesfor thispainting.
'Kelpie's Kiss' was an experiment in texture. I love the folklore surrounding water kelpies and wantedtore-imagineoneasagentleandbeautiful creature, which ishow I got toan algae-maned unicornwalkingon thewater'ssurface.
