CMA Architects & Engineers LLC, founded in Puerto Rico in 1959, is a full service multi-disciplinary firm.

Today, CMA continues to be one of the largest firms on the Island operating from its 30,000 sq.ft. office building in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and growing into the US market with an office in Miami.

Experience

With over 58 years of continuous consulting practice in the fields of architecture and engineering, CMA offers comprehensive assistance from Planning and Design Development, Start-up, Field Observation and Construction Management. The firm is Minority Business Enterprise, and is proud member of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Staff

CMA staff encompasses over 90 professionals in the fields of architecture, planning, civil, transportation, water resources, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as cost estimate and construction management.

In 2010 we invested in the design and installation of a solar system at our offices in PR, resulting in a 15 % reduction of our electric power usage.

Sustainability With LEED Certified Professionals in most of our dosciplines, and CMA’s membership in the U.S. Green Building Council, we are able to provide our Clients with the alternatives that best suit the LEED Certification level pursued.

Transmission & Distribution Previous experience

PREPA - Martin Peùa 115/38kV GIS Substation This project is an Advanced Technology Transmission Center that provides the electric needs to the Golden Mile finance district and the PREPA’s customers at surrounding areas. The Gas Insulated Substation equipment utilizes SF6 as an insulating (gas) component that allows an enormous reduction in space utilization for normally huge electrical equipment. Its utilization is of great advantage in tight urban spaces.

The115/38 kV GIS Transmission center consisting of two (2) 112 MVA transformers at 115/38 kV and two (2) 33.6 MVA transformers at 115/13.2 kV servicing eleven (11) 38 kV underground lines that supply the financial district, the urban train, and backs-up the P.R. Coliseum and the future growth near the district.

Construction cost: $ 16 million

Transmission & Distribution Previous experience

Palo Seco 115/38 kV G.I.S. Substation The PR Electric Power Authority awarded this project to ABB, a major electrical equipment vendor, in September 2005. Because of site limitations, it was necessary for it to be done in 2 phases. The first phase involved a 1,665 sf building, which had to be operational to permit the demolition of a 38kVswitchyard so that the second phase could begin. A high bay main level of 8,706 sf was constructed in this second phase, with a 7,132 sf basement space. The building includes an overhead traveling crane for maintenance purposes.

Adjacent to the first phase building, a diked area was constructed for two 100 mVA 115/38 kV transformers. Site works primarily included foundations for the gas insulated bus duct supports which connect the building’s electrical equipment to the power plant’s main transformers, and for the H frame structures which intercept the four 115kV overhead lines. The Palo Seco plant has a generating capacity of 744 MW. Construction Cost : $37,500,000 M (including Equipment)

Transmission & Distribution Previous experience

Hacienda San JosĂŠ Substation and Transmission Center, Caguas, P.R.

A 115 kV line was split in the switch yard to provide power to two (2) 33 MVA electrical substation transformers. From this facility, PREPA serves a large amount of residential, commercial, and small industrial customers at 13.2 kV distribution voltage.

Transmission & Distribution Previous experience

Rehabilitation of Culebra Power Station This project required the demolition of the actual building’s walls and roof, and substitute them with a new steel exterior structure. The structure houses five (5) generators and a new 25,000 gallon capacity diesel tank. The facility serves the islandmunicipality of Culebra under emergency conditions.

The structure is designed to withstand hurricane force winds of 150 mph and comply with seismic zone III criteria.

Construction Cost: $ 2 million

Oriana Solar Farm Oriana Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Sonnedix Group, in partnership with Yarotek, announced it has commenced energization of the Oriana Solar Farm, a 45 megawatt (MW) AC (58 MW) solar power plant in Isabela.

With an investment in excess of US$160 million, the construction of this renewable energy power plant created more than 300 direct jobs, mostly residents of Isabela and nearby communities. When it started operation, the Oriana solar power plant was the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, it meets the annual electricity needs of more than 12,000 homes and offsets 95,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year, equivalent to planting 50,000 trees.

The facility is capable of generating more than 100,000 megawatt hours of clean, green electricity each year.

AES constructs 24 MW solar PV 24 MW photovoltaic power plant located at the Jobos Industrial Park in Guayama, Puerto Rico.

Capital expenditures for the 138-acre solar farm comprising 101,000 photovoltaic panels totaled $96 million, plus an investment in machinery and equipment of $80 million.

The park has the capacity to provide energy equivalent to 6,500 homes annually.
