Attending camp has been a transformative experience that has profoundly shaped our understanding of what it means to be part of a community. The camp environment fosters a unique sense of togetherness that is both enriching and rewarding. Over time, we have learned that community is not just about being in the same place but about forming meaningful connections with others.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of camp has been the opportunity to build relationships with the individuals we supported. Each day is filled with interactions that strengthen these bonds, whether through collaborative activities, shared goals, or simple, genuine conversations. The camp experience allows for the development of deep, lasting friendships that are grounded in mutual respect and shared experiences. Creating memories together is another integral part of this communal journey. From participating in fun activities to overcoming challenges as a group, each moment spent together adds a new layer to our collective story. These shared experiences become cherished memories that define the camp's unique spirit.
Laughter is a constant companion throughout the camp experience. The joy that comes from shared jokes, playful interactions, and spontaneous moments of humor helps to solidify the sense of community. It’s in these light-hearted moments that the true essence in spirit of friendship shines through, making the time spent together all the more meaningful.
Ultimately, camp has taught us that a genuine community thrives on connection, joy, and shared experiences. It’s not just about the fun and laughter, but also about the support and understanding that comes with being part of something larger than oneself. This revelation has been one of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned, and it’s one that we will carry with us long after the camp days are over.
Lauren, Christina, Felix (Summer Camp Coordinators)
We recently celebrated our amazing summer camp employee’s and volunteer with a special appreciation event on August 22, 2024. The night was filled with joy as everyone enjoyed scrumptious food and heartfelt recognition of their hard work through certificates and gift bags. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together and acknowledge the incredible efforts that made CLYS camp experience so special. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event a memorable one—your commitment truly makes a difference!
York Region Transit (YRT) for their generous donation!
We are thrilled to announce that YRT has generously funded 600 scratch tickets to our organization, a contribution that has proven invaluable, allowing those we support to travel with ease and engage in enriching community experiences. One of the highlights of this donation was how the Markham Camp utilized 30 of these tickets for an inspiring field trip to the Varley Art Gallery. We extend our heartfelt thanks to YRT for their support and generosity, which plays a crucial role in enabling the people we support to access and enjoy vital services and activities. We look forward to continuing to make a difference together.
