Beautifying Concrete

Buildings have always fascinated me, but a few years ago, a certain building struck me in an awe-inspiring way. That building is none other than the Mahanakhon Skyscraper. A building that has such a wonderful design that even now, I still find it such a powerful statement on Bangkok's skyline. Ever since that building struck me, I realize that building designs do not need to be brutal, but they could be complementing their surroundings.

I chose to be an architect to give back to this world in the form of buildings that incorporates nature in some way, be it wind, soil, or the sea, but also serve as functional buildings

A person's sense of place is crucial. It needs to make them feel that they are where they belong, to feel as if this is what they envision staying in. I aspire to be an architect because of that, to make people, nature, and buildings, live in harmony with each other, complementing their strengths and supporting their weaknesses.

Call me Clyde! -

I'm Clyde Karol Leaño, from the Philippines. I've always found myself very logical, often following rules. Not only do I work well under extreme amounts of pressure, but I work with care, resulting in quality works that astound teachers in my subjects.

While attending a club my friend founded, he asked a question, "Where do you see yourself in the future?". I proceeded to draw this depiction. It depicts me, and a house overlooking mountains and trees. It shows a house that has a somewhat cantilever-like design. It mixes in modernity and brutalism, creating this simplistic design.

Yin and Yang Reimagined

That is why the piece only covers half a page, because, like the real logo, the black part only stops halfway. It's supposed to show the harmony between the two sides.

To Overlook

Taking inspiration from a previously popular game, "Firewatch", I use that as a foundation for what this piece would be. Using blue, white, and black exclusively, allowed me to learn how to utilize shadings to make subtle light bounces on the mountains, adding in reflections for a lake.

Model Model Claw

A project given to me and my group in AP Calculus. The model claw was a showcase of our endurance at a time when resources are quite lacking. My group didn't have many materials aside from a few future boards, sticks, and glues. We only needed to buy the syringes and tubes to make this entire model come to life. Although tough, like the time the model broke twice, we got a high score even through all that. It was truly a model that shows how me and my group never gave up.

Photography Through the Rain

On this day, A sense of depression hit me. The weather at that time was also not great, with distant thunders and incessant rain. However, after the rain, the sun showed up, cheering up my mood, and making me look towards my future and how even on dark days, you can always be assured that a sunny one would be next.

Colorful Rainbow

watercolor on canvas

This piece was a challenge for me to implement multiple colors where they all seamlessly blend together. It was a tough one, but the piece turned out better than I thought. Reminiscing a trip to Pattaya, it got me motivated to paint this picture, depicting some sort of land, disappearing into the horizon.

Cliffside

Following a previous work of mine, "To Overlook", I painted another piece, focusing more on just pure white and black, and a small use of yellow. The implementation of the sun allowed the little lookout tower to pop out of the piece, as if the sun placed emphasis on the tower.

Brilliance

digital art

My teacher asked us to do the power of something. I chose light as my base and created a digital piece of work looking at it repeatedly, at least to me. It holds many elements related to light, such as stars, the lighthouse, and the sun. A sense of warmth naturally emits from this piece itself.

Connections

Van Gogh's Starry Night was a huge inspiration for this piece. Taking in that swirl, and adding a bridge to signify connections, this digital piece of art was born.
