Proctor, CE: “Our Sumner Community Gardens produced and delivered 37,000 pounds of produce for the food bank last year. We won’t do that well this year, but we’ll try — and we enjoy every minute of the effort. Not bad for an 82-year-old geezer.” Nicholas Schurick, CE: “Retired as city engineer for Yonkers, N.Y., and enjoy my time with my granddaughters, Jacqueline Maria and Elizabeth Ann Schurick.”

1954 James A. Gerard, CE: “Bob O’Brien (CE) and I just celebrated our 60th Maine Township High School reunion. Great fun. We’re looking forward to our 60th Missouri S&T reunion.”

1955 Peter O. Redel, CE, moved to Massachusetts to be near his daughter.

1956 Gilbert Jurenka, PetE, is retired in Rockport, Texas, but continues to serve as managing partner of a small independent oil and gas company. He enjoys all the benefits that southern Texas has to offer — golf, fishing and hunting.

1957

Charles “Al” Wentz Jr., ChE, MS ChE’59, and his wife, Joan, hosted the eighth annual Pi Kappa Alpha Grapes and Grains Barbecue on Sept. 25 at their home in Edwardsville, Ill. Many PiKA alumni attended and enjoyed barbecue and a commemorative cake provided by Marv Ringer, ME. All PiKA alumni are invited to the next barbecue, scheduled for Sept. 24.

1958 E. Robert Schmidt, ME, MS NucE’59, has been retired for six years but still works part time. He enjoys travel and visiting his four grandchildren. Robert W. Sucher, ChE: “Enjoying my 16-year retirement from AnheuserBusch and especially the last two years with my new bride, the former Victoria Montesi of Memphis, Tenn.”

1959 Gerald A. Bramon Jr., CE: “This year, Nina and I both celebrated our 80th birthdays and our 60th anniversary. We’re still enjoying good healthy living by being active.” Edward O. Wakefield, CE: “My wife, Lynn, and I continue to enjoy traveling and spending our summers in northern Wisconsin and most of the winter in St. Louis. Congratulations to the organizers of our 50th reunion — it was a wonderful affair.”

Donald E. Werner, CE, planned to retire in 2010. “My golf game is still good and I want to keep it that way. We have five grandchildren between the ages of 4½ and 9. They demand a lot of attention. Last year’s 50th celebration may have been the best three-day, two-night event my wife and I have ever attended. Thanks again.”

1960 Paul B. Medley II, EE: “Betty and I are still in Sevierville, Tenn., enjoying the scenery and tourist attractions in the area (Smokey Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge). I still ride my motorcycle and Burgman scooter.” Edgar L. Morris, CE: “The Golden Alumni Reunion was great. The campus, school, town and area have changed since I arrived there in 1952, for the good of all.”

1961 Richard Baur, EE: “Retired from city and county of Denver in 2005. We built a new house last year on our garden property and are enjoying our grandchildren, ages 6 and 8 months.” Richard L.
