As our centennial year closed with the graduation of the Class of 2024, I found myself sitting in the Cathedral, looking at the congregation, our graduates, and their families, and thinking of how many students came before them and how many of us have had a positive impact on their lives for the past 100 years.
Thank you to all of you who helped and attended our centennial events: the weekend when our alumni returned made me so grateful to be a small part of this great institution. I heard so many stories that still echo in these hallowed halls, and I can visualize the third floor as the Latin study hall as I walk the hall today. I found themes that transcend decades, with the rigor, discipline, and schoolmate antics all being vivid memories for our alumni community.
I am also grateful to have traveled literally coast to coast to meet alumni and witness firsthand the impact this institution continues to have on each one of you. I have also been amazed at your generosity as you have continued to make Covington Latin School a giving priority. Over the past four years, I have seen the lives you all have transformed by these families being able to afford to send their children here. Thank you.
Finally, as my tenure here comes to an end, I am grateful to have served the institution that has sent graduates out to make the world a better place. I know the four classes I sent out are already practicing goodness, discipline, and knowledge as they continue the proud tradition of leadership.
John Kennedy Headmaster

My name is Dr. Kevin Reynolds . I am blessed to serve as the Senior Vice President for Mission & University Advancement at Thomas More , where I have worked for the past 10 years. I am part of the team that is examining the affiliation between Thomas More University and Covington Latin School.
Having spent the last five years on the advisory board for Covington Latin School and the last three in the role of Board Chair, I am a firm believer in the mission, motto, reputation, and unique value of Covington Latin. My wife, Christin, has been on the staff at Covington Latin for a few years as Director of Admission and Communications, and since joining the Board, we have been very active in programming and have enjoyed supporting the school as donors and volunteers. Leading the Christian Awakening retreat, speaking to the National Honor Society, attending sporting events and drama productions like Godspell and Little Women over the past couple of years, our family has come to truly understand so many ways that Covington Latin is a gem of our region and the Diocese of Covington .
In my time at Thomas More, I have developed strong relationships with notable alumni and mutual graduates of both 100+ year institutions. Some lovingly refer to Thomas More as “Latin School South,” which we have always found amusing and significant, given the rich history of connection and collaboration between both institutions. As we explore the affiliation opportunity between Covington Latin and Thomas More, I hope to forge new relationships, hear more stories, and learn from all who have been a part of shaping the 100-year legacy of Covington Latin School about what made their experiences special and impactful. We have been asked a lot about plans. Certainly, we have ideas, but right now the plan is to do a lot of listening. Beginning this summer and continuing into the fall term, we will hold a series of listening sessions with all stakeholders: parents, faculty and staff, alumni, community leaders, and students so that we can come to better know all the ways in which this school fulfills its motto, teaching goodness, discipline, and knowledge.
The Catholic, classical education that Covington Latin School has provided for 100+ years is essential in our region . I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Diocese of Covington to develop a strategic vision for the school that ensures this unique and vital educational experience will be available for the next 100 years and beyond, and I am inspired by the ways in which Thomas More University, as the Diocesan University, can take a leadership role in enhancing that experience.
Kevin P. Reynolds, Ed.D. Senior Vice President

While all of our graduates excelled and contributed to the charism of our school, we are pleased to announce that these graduates went above and beyond in earning the following time-honored awards :
Covington Latin School is proud to present Monica Juelg, this year’s recipient of the Faculty Award . Monica delivered her speech at this year’s commencement ceremony.
Welcome to His Excellency Bishop Iffert, Father Maher, Mrs. McGuire, Dr. Kennedy, Faculty, Honored Guests, Parents, and Classmates. Thank you so much for the honor of being your speaker here tonight.
Classmates, In just a few short minutes, we will walk up these steps and receive our diplomas. In a mere moment or two, our beloved time here will come to an end, and we will graduate, walking out of this beautiful Cathedral as the newest alumni of Covington Latin School. We’ve done it. Together, we’ve braved the many challenges of these past four, five, or six years. We all made some amazing memories, and we all made a few mistakes along the way. Each of these memories, though, has taught us something, and the best of them—the most important of them— will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Graduating may seem like the end of our story; we may know where we are headed next and what dreams are held for the future, but there’s still the worry of wondering how we will achieve those dreams. Thankfully, though, graduation isn’t the end of our story; it’s simply the ending to a short chapter of our lives, a chapter that leads us into the future, a chapter that leads us to college and careers. And while we currently may not realize how we can achieve our goals, we have all the necessary materials. We have been given everything that we need to tackle whatever our future holds. We owe all this to the Latin School community. It was our teachers, our classmates, our curriculum, and our faith that provided us with these materials to go out into the world and become the next generation’s leaders. And it was the support of our parents, our families, and our friends that inspired us to keep going. This class is going out to become engineers, doctors, nurses, biologists, writers, and more, and I have full faith that you all will achieve your wildest dreams.
Monica Juelg (cont)
Every aspect of Latin School is designed to create leaders and overall successful individuals. This is accomplished through the motto.
“ Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge .” First, Knowledge: Latin school teaches a special kind of knowledge. The well-rounded and rigorous education in the classics helps to build strong minds and inspire students in numerous fields. Second, Discipline: We are disciplined through our dress code, high expectations, and our respectful conduct toward everyone and everything around us. And finally—in my opinion, the most important—Goodness. If one is knowledgeable and disciplined but lacks goodness, they cannot truly live out their full potential. The deep-rooted connections to religion through our theology classes, Christian service and annual retreats incorporate faith into students’ daily lives and teach us what it truly means to be good .
Goodness, discipline, and knowledge. These three things are the necessary tools to succeed as we enter this new chapter of our lives. Each of them is fulfilled in another. If we hold true to the values we’ve learned and to the faith we’ve been taught, no matter how daunting a task may be, nothing is impossible to overcome...even if it’s writing a thesis the day before it’s due. However, in that scenario, you might want to revisit “Teach me Discipline,” even though some of us may, no one ought to procrastinate that long.
Well, Classmates, the moment has come. As our names are read and we receive our diplomas, a new chapter of our lives is beginning. I know that all of us will succeed and do great things with our lives. Whether we have decided what we will do or are still waiting to find out, every person in this Cathedral can and will accomplish great things if they put their mind to it. I leave you now with the words of Saint Paul from Romans Chapter 12, verse 6: “Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them.” All of us are truly blessed with God-given gifts; if we go out and exercise our gifts for the betterment of ourselves and others, there is nothing we can’t accomplish.
Thank you.

Endowed scholarships have a tremendous impact on our students as over 50% of our students receive financial assistance. For some, making a gift to an endowment level is beyond their reach. New this year, we are challenging classes to create an endowed scholarship in honor of their class. Collectively, many classes give at the level that would rise to the level of a scholarship. This is a great way to show your class spirit and give back to the school in perpetuity.
Thank you to ALL who made the event such a success!

Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends of Covington Latin School,
It is with great joy and gratitude that I write to you today to share the wonderful successes we have experienced during our centennial year. Our celebration has been marked by numerous events that reflect our community’s strength, faith, and commitment to excellence in education, spiritual growth, and service to others.
One of the most exciting developments of this year is our new affiliation with Thomas More University. This partnership opens incredible opportunities for our students, allowing them to accelerate their college education by taking advanced courses while still in high school. This initiative not only aligns with our mission to challenge and support our students academically but also with our strategic plan by bringing an incredible return on investment to a Latin School education. By providing access to college-level classes, we are enabling our students to embark on their higher education journey with confidence and a significant head start. As part of any major initiative, we want to hear your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you at our future listening sessions.
Additionally, I am thrilled to share our remarkable progress with the Clifford E. Kohlhepp Covington Latin School Endowment Fund. Thanks to the unwavering support and generosity of our alumni, parents, and benefactors, we are now only $600,000 away from reaching our goal. This endowment is crucial for ensuring the long-term financial stability of our school and enhancing our ability to provide scholarships to our very deserving students. As we strive to reach the finish line, we are reminded of the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Your continued support and prayers are vital as we work together to achieve this goal.
Our centennial year has been a testament to the enduring legacy of Covington Latin School and the strong foundation of faith and education upon which it is built. As we reflect on our past, we also look forward to a future filled with promise and possibility. This year’s accomplishments exemplify the dedication of our entire community—from our students and faculty to our alumni and friends.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and your steadfast commitment to Covington Latin School. Together, we are not only celebrating 100 years of excellence but also laying the groundwork for the next century of success. May God continue to bless our school and all who are part of this remarkable community.
With gratitude and blessings,
Amy Darpel Director of Advancement
