01 Project Description Concept & Idea

If It is POPSICLE it is POSSIBLE Minus 20degree art and architecture biennalle is about the time and the space to POP the ice, MELT the snow, get together and share the ART&ARCHITECTURE production.

ICE NOW-if is popsicle is possible is a water-based frozen construction. An event venue plaza fully built of snow.

It is ICE, because the ice is the major abundant construction material during Flachau’s winter. It is NOW , because the public need for interactions now.

ICE NOW POPSICLE is a sweet piece of ice and snow. It is the built proof that is possible to build with snow and that the frozen season can become unusually warm. Is built for users not for an audience. The mass will POP from the snow and the soft volumes will invite the spectators for interaction.

The space layout gathers opportunity for a variety of activities to take place, such as, a mini cinema (theater-snow wall projection), visual arts (white snow canvas), lounge (seat and table), and it serves the pedestrian passersby as they transverse the MELT gallery route. The functions work in both ways, independently and collaboratively: they can be arranged

in different modes, giving plenty of options for different sequences and configurations. This proposal is highly flexible and it provides opportunity for any eventual unpredictable change or transformation.

ICE NOW brings life to the biennale. It is a splash of activities provided by an iconic symbol of fun/happiness- a POPSICLE - that contrast with the organic and quiet white snow landscape. It is a space of art, joy, live, sharing, music, and transcendence.

Definitions Functions ICE NOW POPSICLE - is a snow land art, in which spaces are created by transformation (alchemy).

Transformation of the landscape by digging snow to create passages.

Passages that bring forth enclosure and unique spaces filled of mystery by the surrounding environment. Spaces for gathering, seating, eating, debating, and entertainment.

A space to see visual art and movie projections. The ICE NOW POPSICLE connects the MELT route as a transitory venue. It brings intrigue to the spectators, the sense of not knowing what’s beyond the snow...To find a happyness plaza -THE POPSICLE- at the heart of the site, with color, art, people, music, bonfire, and projections. Taking only memories, leaving only footprints.

03 The minus 20 degree 2016 popsicle is a snow based event venue that will work as the main action magnet to warm up and melt the ICE, gather and invite people to enjoy and have fun during the art and architecture biennalle.

04 Materiality and construction Design Management (1 to 4 weeks – August to September 2015) After the winning announcement in mid August 2015 an until the end of the month of September the design team (100architects+M20D+Biennal eGroup) will be dedicated to the design development, production, logistics, cost, feasibility, and construction planning development.

Production Period (4 to 6 weeks– October to December 2015) From October to the end of December 2015 starts the pre-construction period, during which all required materials (wood+framing+ropes+ligh ts+etc..) will be collected and place on site.

Construction (1st day –January 2016) On January XX.2016 (three days before the event starts) the design team will rehearse the assembly (During the morning) to transmit the construction instructions to the designated group of participants involved. During the afternoon, the design team and participants will visit the site and start outlining the intervention site with wood sticks and RED ropes as reference points.

Construction (2nd day –January 2016) On January XX.2016 (two days before the event starts) the design team will rehearse the assembly (During the early morning to transmit the

construction instructions for the day.

The design team and participants would then proceed to start the snow land forms, such as, the seats, walls, and grandstand. The design team and participants will be divided into three to four teams to address different components of the intervention.

Construction (3rdday –January 2016) On January XX.2016 (one day before the event starts) the design team will rehearse the assembly (During the early morning to transmit the construction instructions for the day.

The design team and participants would then proceed to finalize all the snow land form components. In the afternoon, the team will ensure that all logistics in regards to electrical components for projections are settle, as well as, all other gallery spaces and final touches.

MELT event (January 2016) During the event the design team will make sure that everything works properly and enjoy the biennale+ Post event (January 2016) After the event, the design team will rearrange everything into its natural form.
