urban projects A changing industrialo-harbour landscape : the future district of Minervahaven South in Amsterdam (NL) Graduation project, ENSAP Lille, 2015, supervised by S.Koval et P. Thomas

The metropolis of Amsterdam, marked by a high demand in housing, decided to develop on the industrialo-harbour zones close to the center.

The studied site, on the west docks of the city, is at the heart of the municipality’s contemporary stakes.

In the Netherlands, the water management, the countrysides planning and the urban development are managed jointly since centuries. In this landscape where ground and water are inseparable I was interested in the urban renewal of Minervahaven South from its history and the territory in which it is settled. Its singular relationship with the water, with the landscape and the heritage makes it a wealth area and was a real engine for my project, making me want to reveal all its potential.

My answer to the municpality’s expectations is personal, enlightened by my discovery of the dutch landscapes. My approach was guided by the interactions of the water, with the landscape, the industrial heritage, the ground and the vegetation.

I tried to rely on these elements to value the presence and the use of the water in public place.

My proposal considers the future users of the site but also Amsterdammers and tourists who will appreciate to discover a new facet of Amsterdam inbetween city and port, park and river.

Also called the canyon of London, Deptford Creek is ideally situated near water and public transportation. Former industrial site, it is now coveted by developers. It is therefore necessary to think from now on about the future of Deptford Creek in a global and coherent vision.

It is a question of redefining the relationship with water and the industrial heritage, which make the particular character of these banks.

Cruise terminal : connection with Europe and attraction point hotel, cafés and restauranst combined with an exhibition space and a library.

The royal docks of London seem forgotten today : the water just acts like a limit between the London City Airport, the ExCel conference center and fallow lands. The project choses to revitalize the docks around water by betting on new models of innovative industries (aquaponics, algae biofuels

production) and the community involvement. The water is from now on visible, accessible and used in the public space, it is an integral part of the urban landscape at both city and district scales.

URBAN PROJECTS Eura-Port : a cultural quay at the heart of Lille (59)

International workshop with the Greenwich university (London, UK), 2014

On the model of Euralille or Euratechno, the project proposes a reconversion of the river port into a new district : Eura-Port. In this new city entrance, the former docks are tranformed into hotels, cinema or show places and the quays, from now on accessible, are bounded with cafés with a Gallery and sculpture park

fantastic view over the river Deûle. An alignment of Prunus underlines the plan of the new canal : the water twists in the district inbetween the new attraction centers whom are a big media library , an arboretum and a marina.

TERRITORY New railroad track Provence Côte d’Azur (LN PCA) Internship, JNC International (Lyon, France), 2013

The new railroad track LN PCA, launched by RFF (France railroad network), aims to facilitate the travels between the south metropolises of France, by offering a alternative to the road. The JNC office is the representative for this project management, its mission consists of two big stages. A landscape

analysis to define the characteristics, the dynamics and the sensitivities of the territories in which the LN will pass. And an architectural and landscape planning program to integrate the LN at best into this territories, limit the abandoned spaces and consider the local residents.

Bousbecque island

Bousbecque, Belgium, 2011

The island of Bousbecque, located between France and Belgium, is an artificial island made during the channeling of river Lys.

The ground volume of the island was calculated in order to remain identical in the new project and avoid the import or the export of ground. The model creation allowed to realize curves of cubatures and contour map. Inspired by the river flow, the new shape of the island follows the rhythm of flat and sharp slopes down to the water.

GARDENS Houthaven Dijkpark in Amsterdam (NL)

Internship, City of Amsterdam’s public space and traffic department (NL), 2014

The garden is settled on the Spaarndammer References dike which follows the west extremity of the historic city and opens on the future artificial residential islands of Houthaven. It is a place of life and passage between two districts. Situated on the roof of a under construction tunnel, the Dijkpark has to take into account some specific constraints (depth, topography, ventilation, access).

The particular linear shape of the garden is strengthened by the vegetation on the top of the dike, along the road, then slopes up to the water. This landscape, crossed daily on foot or by bike, evolves with the seasons thanks to the numerous trees, grasses, flowers and water plants. The garden will be Claude Monet - Les coquelicots built in 2017, once the tunnel is constructed.

Allain Provost is an influential landscape painter recognized for several big projects ( Diderot and AndrĂŠ CitroĂŤn parks in Paris and Thames Barrier park in London). His simple and dynamic writing of the space and his plastic approach of

the vegetation guided my project : geometrical lines, forms in strips, in blocks, different heights, light green and dark, blue, white colors, different successive atmospheres...

PUBLIC SPACES Longueau’s main square development Longueau, France, 2013

Placed inbetween Amiens and the industrial park Jules Verne, the city of Longueau works in two scales : the territory scale as a «city-street» and the working-class district scale. The development of the square values the identity of the city, it offers a living environment pleasant to the inhabitants with views on Amiens and the ripisylve.

The project materiality is inspired by the railroad history and the territory (vegetation, water) to organize the various spaces according to their functions.

Douai’s gateway : development of the Louise Michel avenue Lille, France, 2013

Douai’s gateway connects the city center to the suburb, it is a key mobility point in the city (subway, bus, bike, highway). The arrangement of the Louise Michel avenue allows to improve the mobility in the district between the university, the cultural and sports centers and the botanical garden for the pedestrians and the bikes. Vegetation and artistic interventions punctuate the path (creepers, little free library...)

PUBLIC SPACES Development of the Amont port quay Amiens, France, 2012

Between the St Leu district and the «hortillonages», in front of the Jacqueline Osty’s park St Pierre, this quay used as parking lot becomes walk. The perpendicular strips give a rhythm to the water linearity up to the buildings. Along the quay, the sloping lawns and the planted emmarchements open on the opposite bank.

INSTALLATIONS Landscape cartography Fretin, France, 2012

Fretin is a linear village which is settled around a main street. This model represents a personal reading and analysis of the territory.

The facades give rhythm while going through Fretin and the church tower is a lanmark at the heart of the village. On the west, the village is characterized by brick houses looking out on to the street. In the east, houses are recent, of suburban type and increase the urban sprawl.

Some plants for the school’s bees !

ENSAP Lille, France, 2013

This installation, inbetween the school’s parking lot and cafeteria aims at creating a rich and diversified environment for the bees settled on the building’s roof.

Cans of food, collected in the neighboring schools, are filled up with concrete and act as counterbalance for the climbing plants cables of support. These plants which cloth the passage walls are honing species in staggered bloomings (jasmines, honeysuckles, ivy). This new entrance in the school evolves, with time and architects students’ wooden constructions.
