Artificial intelligence has improved the efficiency of large capacity dryers in many ways over the last few years.

Dryer manufacturers have made developments to their machines at such an impressive rate that those using older dryers are now suffering from much poorer results.

The days of guessing your running time are long gone

There are plenty of drying machines that will set your running times based on the pre-cycle information that you program into it.

Typically, you can enter your chosen textile and the desired end result and the dryer will know how to long how to run for. This technology was reasonably reliable, but manufacturers have now taken things a step further.

Now, many modern machines have added sensors that are able to tell the machine to stop running at the exact moment that your load has dried. The results of this technology have been very impressive, essentially removing the possibility of having to run two cycles or a single cycle for too long.

This is a big step to address the energy-efficiency problem that has plagued the industrial clothes dryer industry for far too long. A 2014 National Resources Defense Council report found that a typical residential dryer uses the same amount of energy as a fridge, dishwasher, and washing machines combined, or around 4% of domestic energy consumption in the United States.

Say goodbye to cleaning the condenser

In newer drying machines, sensor-based technology has also been used to create a self-cleaning system for the condenser.

The sensors are able to identify when and where the condenser needs cleaning, and does so using condensation water produced throughout drying cycles. It means you’ll never have to worry about lint clogging up the condenser and causing problems.

Artificial intelligence used to change the rotation direction

Older tumble dryers used to change the rotation direction at regular intervals. However, manufacturers realized that machines could prevent laundry from tangling and creasing, by changing direction irregularly. Now, there are even machines which use sensors to detect the best time to change the direction of rotation for premium drying results.

Within these machines, are typically two separate motors for the drum and fan. This prevents the airflow from being interrupted in the process of the rotation switching.

These intelligent dryers are worth the investment

The price tag on these intelligent dryers is significantly higher than your run-ofthe-mill machines, but many of these features will lower your energy bills significantly, so they will pay for themselves quickly. What’s more, these newer machines tend to be more reliable and sturdy than older models, and the quality of your drying results will speak for themselves.
