THE ANNUAL KITCHEN

The Designated Kitchen

Kitchen design evolves, trends come and go, and technology advances in products like appliances. Each year we like to tap our kitchen designers, interior designers and architects to see what lies ahead in design and products for the next year.

SHERIE WEIDNER CLIVE DANIEL HOME

Acclaimed interior designer Sherie Weidner enjoyed a thriving career in Chicago, Dallas and Naples, FL, before providing her expertise to the lead design team at Clive Daniel Home. A graduate of Michigan State University in East Lansing and DePaul University in Chicago, Sherie is a sought-after designer due to her consistent production of fine luxury work. A true professional and master of interior design, Sherie offers a wealth of design knowledge and brings a deep appreciation of culture and the arts to her clients. She travels to perfect her craft and gain inspiration and creativity for her design projects; recently, she toured the beautiful castles in Spain.

Here, Sherie shares an outstanding home she designed with builder Curtis Gunther of Imperial Homes of Naples. Curtis and Sherie have a history of awardwinning collaborations. This 5,076-square-foot California Chic home in Bonita Bay is just as luxuriously detailed and warmly personalized as their previous works of refined construction and beautifully

innovative home design.

Sherie leads us through the substantial gourmet kitchen that hearkens back to mid-century modern with stirring Japandi inspiration. “Japandi” refers to a style that combines warm and clean Scandinavian aesthetics with the grace and sophistication of Japanese designs. The results are invitingly calm, fresh and uncluttered, allowing uncomplicated elegance to take center stage.

This kitchen is also wonderfully customized to serve as the ultimate culinary sanctuary for the enthusiastic home chefs. “Every kitchen needs to be designed for the people who will be living there,” Sherie says. “It’s all about the end users. If they need a butler’s pantry or double dishwasher because they entertain a lot, it needs to be personal to them. Do they want a feeding station for their dog? Do they want dual-prep islands? Would they like a place to sit and eat in the kitchen? The designated kitchen is truly the end user’s wish list.”

As a top interior designer with Clive Daniel Home, Sherie thoughtfully considers her clients’ particular wants and needs and how they live in their space. She personalized this kitchen in unique and exciting ways by listening closely to the homeowners and then drawing from her extensive professional experience and creativity. The stunning results offer a perfect balance of elements and color—a signature of Sherie’s design talents.

Culinary comfort and space were seen as top priorities during the design process. Since the homeowners enjoy cooking, the kitchen features two generous islands. Sherie and the homeowners didn’t just settle for the typical two-tone cabinetry; they selected three beautiful colors for the cabinets: soft white, warm green and rich walnut. “I chose Cosentino’s Silestone in Ethereal Glow for the kitchen’s countertop surface due to its subtle movement, white background and occasional umber shading,” says Sherie. She knew the color would serve as a subtle backdrop and an ultraclean contrast with the earthy, organic-inspired mahogany cabinetry.

Another way Sherie thoughtfully infused creativity and functionality to this space was by adding a solid walnut strip off the second prep island—the perfect place for dining-height seating. “I think that’s really gorgeous,” says Sherie. The leather seats at the island are wonderfully spill-friendly though still luxurious.

Beautiful yet highly functional, this gourmet kitchen seamlessly houses a Sub-Zero refrigerator, freezer and wine storage tower with beverage drawers. Two Bosch dishwashers and a Wolf eight-burner range offer additional culinary delights to the busy homeowners who enjoy entertaining.

How did Sherie incorporate mixed material and fixtures to provide a unique look for this mid-century Japandi kitchen? The gold and black hardware adds soft contrast to the fine cabinetry, and the long, slender contemporary LED lights are highly functional, with the ability to dim or brighten the space.

One of the kitchen islands has a welcoming nook for the beloved family dog—a dedicated feeding station complete with its own water tap to make fresh water as accessible as possible. Sherie and Curtis have certainly thought of everything, as the dog’s water tap has a nearby valve for a simple shutoff, should curious toddlers be visiting. Indeed, interior designer Sherie Weidner and builder Curtis Gunther have succeeded in meeting their clients’ needs and going above and beyond aesthetic expectations with this elegant California Chic kitchen.
