Viola Brugnatelli: Scientific research, innovation, and awareness

Medicine is a science in constant evolution, reinventing itself with treatments, alternatives, and discoveries related to the human body. This evolution cannot occur but through research. Someone who understands the importance of sharing insights is Viola Brugnatelli, a prominent scientist with a proven record of investigator in the medicinal Cannabis field. Brugnatelli studied Neurosciences at the Dundee University in Scotland. During her education, she completed an internship in the Neurosciences department, which allowed her to get closer to her current career objective at that time: the endocannabinoid system.

Following this appeal, she started working at the Neurosciences Center of the Ninewells Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, where she could strengthen her knowledge on the endocannabinoid system and the orphan cannabinoid receptors, leading to the completion of her thesis project on the cannabinoid derivative receptors related to pain perception. Given her tenacious work on medicinal Cannabis, Dr. Brugnatelli was designated a member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society. Furthermore, she is the Italian ambassador of the International Association of Cannabinoid Medicines.

Brugnatelli has performed multiple investigations on cannabinoids and their effects on the nervous system. For example, she investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD and the interaction of the essential Cannabis oils. Another of her passions is teaching and sharing her insights. In Ireland, she worked as a teaching assistant on subjects like Adjuvant Pharmacology, Phytotherapy, and Endocannabinoid System. In addition, she was a tutor in the Neurosciences laboratories of the same institution. Viola shares her work through different media: she participates in seminaries, imparts workshops, and is a member of the Joint Board of the CANNA Foundation, a non-profitable Spanish organization dedicated to Cannabis scientific studies and its effects on the human body.

Dr. Brugnatelli is the head of the Cannabiscienza Scientific Committee, one of her most interesting projects to date. It is about a webpage that provides information with scientific evidence on the medicinal Cannabis and the endocannabinoid system. This platform is more than just a discussion forum for members of the scientific community: it is a site fully dedicated to medicinal Cannabis with several online curses on Cannabis and its clinical, pharmaceutical, and even veterinary applications.

Doubtless, Viola Brugnatelli’s work has been a milestone for investigations about medicinal Cannabis. Brugnatelli has participated and supported several media for the dissemination of knowledge, and she even created an educational platform for other physicians and students can learn more about medicinal Cannabis, with access to information upto-date. Definitively, Viola Brugnatelli has contributed to the scientific community with a myriad of options to distribute information on medicinal Cannabis, and therefore, she has globally contributed to scientific innovation.
